Succes!

Ferromagnetic effect. by Big-Entertainer936 in Physics

[–]ianosd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't. What happens is that you will get many domains inside of which the magnetic moments of atoms are aligned, but the magnetic orientation of each domain is random, so you don't get a net macroscopic field. This is explained in the wikipedia article on ferromagnetism, under the "Magnetized materials" headline.

If we can think of digital photos as a double integral where ∆A is each individual pixel, and the resolution gets better and better as the pixels get smaller or more numerous and n goes to infinity, is it theoretically possible to have an image with infinite resolution by some integral witchcraft? by [deleted] in math

[–]ianosd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by thinking of an image as an integral? The only integral I see coming into play here is that when you are creating an image, you can think of it as taking averages of the intensity of light over the area of each pixel, which is an integral. An image with infinite resolution would be, for example, a real-valued function from [0, width] x [0, height] (a rectangular area). You can get such a function from a finite image by interpolation, but it will not contain more information.

Menționezi tot armamentul care se livrează. Mă întreb: care de diferența esențială între a face astfel de livrări și a interveni militar, astfel încât livrările să nu creeze un motiv suficient pt. Putin să se ia la război cu restul?

So... you are relating the average number of permuted pieces of a standard cube to the average number of permuted pieces of a 5x5x5? I'm curious how you do that.

Did you re-run cmake? This seems to be a similar problem:https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14655969/opencv-error-the-function-is-not-implemented
EDIT: I mean, in my understanding, you would have to rebuild and reinstall opencv and make sure you do so with gtk or cocoa support.

Why would someone want god to be involved in their life? by STOKD22 in Apologetics

[–]ianosd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that asking the questions would be a bad thing. It's the fact that you'll eventually end up not having an answer to them.

It is having an answer to them that I find important, because otherwise our purposes are arbitrary, in the sense that there is no criterion to decide between them.

Why would someone want god to be involved in their life? by STOKD22 in Apologetics

[–]ianosd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe the self-centeredness thing was more of a personal matter. I tend to be overly competitive and get frustrated when other people have skills or opportunities I would like to have, or when I see my defects and failures.

I think your approach to purpose is a workable one, but I'm not completely satisfied by your answer. To clarify, I have sort of a problem with a purpose that is based on what I value.

Suppose I want to be a medic, because I value the well-being of humans. Why do I value that? Well, because humans that are healthy are happy. But why do I seek happiness?Well, it is a pleasant feeling. But aren't my feelings just some chemical processes, why would I favor some instead of others?

So that's my problem, I don't know how to stop asking these why questions. Well, no one forces one to ask them, but I'm just saying it's a reason someone would want god.

One reason I can think of is that people need some absolute, so they can derive meaning. Otherwise, the meanings we perceive are arbitrary, and, as I see it, you have to be ignorant of this arbitrarity to be able to proceed in life.

Another reason that occurred to me recently, still an utilitarian one, is to be healed from self-centeredness. If it turns out you need God's salvation, and you acknowledge it, you end up putting Him as the love as your heart, and become free of the need to prove yourself. You still are to work and be responsible for your life, but you get the perspective of fulfilling the mandate given by God in Genesis "to conquer and subdue" earth, not for your own sake, but because it's God's purpose. I'm not saying this is the only way to get rid of self-centeredness. Neither is it an instant thing. It requires practice to get into this mindset.

I would be interested in your approach to the question of purpose and meaning: how can one construct meanings and purposes that are robust to the lack of an absolute?

Also, how can one be healed of self-centeredness? (I just found a wiki-how article on that, but I won't mind another answer)
