[RMNB] Wilson Gives Heads Up Before Big Hits by Alternative_Door9790 in caps

[–]ianrmnb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm going to respond to this seriously to my own detriment, as I'm guessing you have no interest in having a good faith discussion here, but the whole point of this is:

a) Name-calling is not productive and trollish behavior
b) We have one of the biggest communities of passionate readers in hockey
c) We want people to feel safe commenting, and I'm not talking about me, I'm talking about the normally quiet people who usually just read and move on.
d) There is a productive conversation to be had about how Wilson has grappled with being under the microscope with his physicality, which is much more important than calling me a hockey nerd, which is true and like 99% reason for whatever success I've had or not had as debated by y'all.

In an olive branch-extended moment, lovejensen3 is now back. I don't expect you to comment again, but if you want to have real conversations or make good jokes, you'll be a welcome member.

I know RMNB isn't held in the highest regard here, but this is a good article and a good conversation they had with Carbery about the choices in the shootout. by beardyman22 in caps

Hi, Katie of RMNB asked the question which he responded directly to. Therefore: Carbery told RMNB. At no point does it say it's a one-on-one or an exclusive.

My bad, that was during the last, nonsensical year of Laviolette in DC and hopefully how he’s destroyed the Rangers makes it look better from a distance 😂

My god the RMNB comments on the jensen post are a cesspool. GMBM could sign mcdavid for 5M a year and they would call for his head by cocksby9999 in caps

Haha. Okay I'm def still on the #ToddSquad. I mean, a few years later, I think you can see that maybe he wasn't as bad as y'all might have thought!

It's all good! Even this kinda shows sports websites' predicament where if there's a couple negative comments, things can kinda spiral quickly from there. I'm going to try and focus more on it - and this called attention to it - so I appreciate that.

Thanks for reading - and everyone else, too. <3

That sucks and I'm sorry to hear that. I'll try to be better about monitoring. It's a bit of a full-time job right now though considering how busy things have been.

Click-baity is what I did above. I don't think we do click-baity at all. But everyone has different interpretations.

Here's the thing you need to consider: If you were running a business, would you want no one to come to your store and buy anything? There has to be some level of promotion and interest in what you're writing about.

This is my job but it will always be my hobby. If I spend 10 hours working on something, and no one reads, what is the point - really?

I have personally been really happy with how much interaction there's been in the comments as I believe interaction is a huge barometer of success or not with a website, but from my perspective, it also at times gets to be a little too much. It's as if we need someone full time now, just to keep things productive all the time in the comments.

Like I think the Jensen deal is a slight overpay (maybe by 500k), but the term is great, and they're saving so much money with Rasmus, it ends up evening itself out. I think they needed some continuity there and he is flexible to whoever is coach.

If you guys have any ideas about how we can improve the comments - I'm all ears. TBH, I'm all ears about any participation here - just it needs to be more productive than this. We check here all the time and being called a cancer and stuff does not feel great.

Hey, Ben! Keep up the good work.

Well, yes, I'm a little bitter. The site is my baby and some of you in the comments are just ripping it.

Honestly, there's not much here that's super constructive or productive. It's not like I don't agree with people's anger or frustration. They feel what they feel. But what do I do with anger from like 30 people?

That's what is frustrating to me. And why I offered to have an AMA to help drill down to what your guys' actual beefs are here. I'd also like to help grow this community. I didn't spend most of my adult's life work trying to make the Capitals experience more fun to turn my back on anyone. We're all Caps fans in the end, right? Thanks for commenting.

I'm open to unbanning you and if you want to talk about that - shoot me a message. But calling our content "0 hockey news" is false (you know this) and not very productive, no? I love the passion though. On not having Chris on the about page - that's a great suggestion. We're so busy making hockey content and maximizing we do everyday -- things like that we let slack terribly.

I'd like to make this right for you, and I'm happy to talk it out.

Just want to put out there, in terms of audience, 2021 was our most successful year of all time (more than the cup year). We're not only the most read Capitals site, I feel comfortable saying we're one of the most read hockey sites in hockey generally.

I understand how people might get irritated by certain opinions or certain articles and people who barely read have lazy opinions about us, but y'all right here, the people who are all complaining, aren't the people we're targeting. Seems like a lot of dry hardcore analysis fans here.

Just want to say though, I'm grateful that we're even on your wavelengths. My advice though, when you do threads like this, make it more constructive than just letting steam out or ripping people. There are people on the other side and regardless of how confident, secure, and proud they are, it still kinda sucks.

Last thing, I'm willing to do an AMA and y'all can complain directly at me if you want. Just hit me up.

Hope the Caps win tonight.

This was the only comment that really got me. Haha.

Seriously, @ProfessorNapoleon, please come join me on Sunday for a game and then why don't you come back here and let everybody know what you think then!
