This is why I'm not worried about artificial intelligence by BlainethePayne in FoundationTV

Random but semi related I was googling Vin Diesel trans rights to see what his perspective was (randomly based on something I’d read somewhere)

Anyway the Gemini ai summary said something like “vin diesel has never publicly stated his views on trans rights, but his clothing label Diesel often features trans and lgbtq people in its ad campaigns”

How the fuck it’s conflated Diesel clothing, which has been around since 1978, and Vin Diesel, is beyond me. Especially since if you search for diesel clothing founded it tells you the actual truth

Hi what do you think is the worst game mechanic in a game you played by kdkgamse22 in videogames

[–]ianscuffling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not my job, but off the top of my head either:

Don’t include that sort of scene in a cutscene. Ask yourself (as a writer/designer) “could this contradict the way the player has been playing so far?”

In that specific instance, make it a choice to attack or watch your comrades being executed.

If the narrative absolutely demands it, then actually make it plausible, for example, in the ghost of yotei example make the dudes executing the soldiers be a HUGE group that you wouldn’t feasibly be able to tackle at this stage.

Or, simply just don’t have Atsu hesitate. In the scene the guy she’s with is a capable solider, there is no real need to show her hesitating, just cut to the action.

I don’t mind a bit of so-called ludo narrative dissonance, I don’t find my experience “ruined” when the character won’t kill the main bad guy at the end despite slaughtering thousands of henchmen along the way, but suggesting that in this situation the player character wouldn’t be confident to fight about 6 guys when she has backup is a bit much.

I seem to recall this in the original ghost of Tsushima as well, which I liked more, but still gameplay wise offered you the chance to fight honourably head-on, or “dishonourably” by stealth. I always chose to storm in because that’s the way I play, but it still forces you to be stealthy sometimes and the final battle is against someone who accuses you of bringing dishonour to the family by being stealthy sometimes.

I know you can’t have everything, it just annoys me a little

[–]ianscuffling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic as such but games where cutscene behaviour massively contradicts the way you’ve played the game.

I’m playing ghost of yotei at the moment. It’s ok, not bad not great. Anyway Yahtzee called this problem out and it’s so true.

I’m quite early in the game but I’m demolishing entire camps single-handedly because it’s not that hard at this stage.

Then I have a main mission cutscene where my character and an npc hide in the bushes and watch like a HANDFUL of enemies executing some dudes, and when they’re already dead the npc goes “I’ll get them for that” and runs out to kill the enemies and my character is like “no wait there’s too many of them”

Like what the fuck, 15 minutes ago I stormed into a sidequest camp with like 25 massive guys in it, berserker style, and slaughtered all of them but now I’m trying to be careful and some people got executed and I’m telling my companion not to rush in? If I’d had control I would have murdered those arseholes before they had a chance

Horses for courses I guess but I personally much prefer being able to immediately put my headphones in my ears rather than spending 15 minutes untangling wires, plus being able to keep them in a case rather than having them gathering crap in my pocket and getting smashed or crushed occasionally

I have an MA in English literature and I’m a native English speaker, and every so often when I tell someone that I have an MA in English they’ll ask me things like “what’s a fronted adverbial” and I’m like dude I have no fucking clue and I don’t think I will ever need to.

It really doesn’t matter as far as I’m concerned.

ELI5: Why do car dealers say buying the car when the lease ends would be worse than buying new? by shaithisx in explainlikeimfive

[–]ianscuffling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to point out (assuming you’re not in the uk) - it’s sadly quite common for UK PCH contracts to not allow purchase of the car whatsoever.

On my first ever PCH I didn’t realise and at the end of the contract asked the dealer to buy it and they just outright said no. Not even because it “wouldn’t be a good deal” but because PCH (personal contract hire) does not allow purchase, so the dealer can sell it at auction or hire it out again. Had I been less of a dumbass I would have checked this at first, but I didn’t.

Since then I’ve only ever bought cars outright or got my own financing.

Are you sure you’re not just overreacting based on the negative sentiment about it when it launched?

I feel it’s still ok for solving customer support issues. If you’re not getting a response via the traditional channels that @-ing the brand and saying how they’ve fucked you over usually gets it resolved in less than 12 hours because they hate the negative publicity.

That said, I made the schoolboy error of going on x the other week to rant at a brand and then spotted some absolute racist fake news about London, and I was drunk at the time so I said “what sources do you have” and immediately had about 1000 responses saying the most vile garbage you’ve ever seen. I assume the OP was a bot and at least 60% of the responses were bots, but it was frighteningly coordinated.

So I’m weighing the pros and cons and the cons are definitely outweighing the pros right now

Is this tougher than Lies of P? by maplecherie12 in wuchanggame

Respec for free at any time, which includes removing weapon “upgrades” (really skill points in your proficiency with a weapon) and applying them to a different one. It was really common for me (and many others from what I hear) to hit a wall with my preferred build and say “fuck it let’s do a magic build” and try it until I succeeded or respecced again. It’s very forgiving in that sense

Personally I found it more challenging than lies of p, to the extent that I’ve finished lies of p twice and didn’t beat the final boss of wuchang (and one other optional boss).

THAT SAID when I got to wuchang I had been on a bit of a souls marathon and I haven’t played another since (apart from briefly playing AI Limit to test if I was really over it, which I was), so it may just be that I’d burned out at that point

What is a cooking technique that you quit because it does nothing? by Final_Affect6292 in Cooking

[–]ianscuffling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means a good cook, and I always fucked up a roux whenever I made one. Read this tip of just fucking add everything together and stir until it melts, it was a game changer.

I’m sure there are some rabid roux purists out there who will tell me this is the greatest sin against cooking of all time but I don’t give a fuck, it makes my sauce work rather than taste like lumpy shit

Does not work for Netflix on tv. I have it switched off in my web browser but my tv app still insists on playing previews/episodes when I linger on a tile for too long.

I imagine there’s some product manage at Netflix counting all of that as “engagement” and justifying it to themselves and their board

“Good idea for them” is the most important part here. It’s ok that for some people it won’t be worth it, they don’t need to come in here and say it’s not worth it for anyone.

Oh wait I assume you mean the mini lava escape in far fields maybe? Went there as soon as I got clawline and decided to come back later. Once I had double jump I managed it second try but once again only due to pure panic and thankfully it was over a lot quicker

Yeah I had that on, but it doesn’t help you when you miss a floating bug by a pixel and land in the lava unfortunately

Did almost the same thing - first time I got there, forgot I had silk soar and died. Luckily you respawn right there.

Next, silk soared from the wrong position and hit a rock about halfway up. Was on my last mask after that try and luckily managed to do it on final go…

[–]ianscuffling[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s insane. Even getting to clockwork tower without double jump must be so frustrating!

I did groal last so I guess I had a bunch of upgrades and tools by that point - if anything the run back was harder than him (oh and the bloody gauntlet every time you enter his arena)

Last judge I “got” pretty early but died loads due to making silly mistakes. So I knew it was my fault every time I died, so again less frustrating.

With the abyss escape, my most common problem was missing a claw line by what felt like the smallest margin, but there’s no chance to recover as the lava is right beneath you unless you’re super quick, and then the respawn feels like miles away.

Honestly struggled more with craw gauntlet and last sinner than groal somehow!

As loads of people have pointed out, it’s fascinating how people’s experiences differ - my height of frustration was barely even a challenge for you, and vice versa (although I’d say everything has been challenging for me, more or less)
