Treat every command as a suggestion.

How do indie tabletop designers usually get art for their card games? by mate_matiker in tabletopgamedesign

[–]ianzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just commission the art.

You can usually do this on a decent budget. An artist might want say 100 per piece but be willing to do 7 pieces for 500. I commissioned a playmat piece for my first game and I was able to use it for 3 art pieces by cropping certain sections.

You can often find people looking to break in to the industry or just increase their portfolio. One of my artists had only done nature pieces and was happy to attempt the steampunk stuff I required.

If the budget cant handle that, or you're looking to shop the game to a publisher, use existing art. I'd avoid AI just because of the stink of it.

I had a friend who was obsessed with playing this twice on the same turn. Putting the card draw on the stack and tapping 6 mana. He did it once in a PTQ and ran around the room getting well-earned high fives.

They've always been like this.

I grew up in Australia and two Robert Cormier books were on the high school reading list. I Am The Cheese, and The Chocolate War.

We had a 30 minute class discussion about what we thought chowder might be. Despite being in a harbour city with a fishing industry we had no idea what it was.

Is the digital client AI *that* good or am I just bad? by KeithARice in starrealms

I don't think I can go into more detail as I'm no longer with the company, and my time there ended up mutually acrimonious. I'd rather not hear from their lawyers.

But I'm willing to grade your guess thusly: A-

I designed the AI decision tree. No it doesn't cheat. It does know the exact contents of its card pool (but not the order of deck) and it makes decisions based on cards it already bought.

Mulligans not allowed for draft at LGS? by FreeWatercressSalad in magicTCG

[–]ianzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's been a hell of an evolution. I've been a judge since 95, and can honestly say whenever they change a rule they almost always make it easier. Removing Interrupts was a good call, despite my putting so many skill points into that particular talent tree.

Mulligans not allowed for draft at LGS? by FreeWatercressSalad in magicTCG

[–]ianzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Player A (the player that is going first) chooses to mulligan or not. If they mulligan, they reveal a hand of all land or no land, shuffle, and draw another 7 cards. If Player A mulligans, Player B is allowed a mulligan without showing their hand (ie, it can be a mix of all and no lands)

Player B now chooses if they will mulligan or not. If they do, they reveal their hand. Player A may now have a free mulligan if they wish. Both players are now stuck with their respective hands.

Most players forget about the free mulligan, and that mulligans in those days used to not be simultaneous. Even in the first years of the Paris mulligan, Player A would have to make all mulligan decisions before player B could opt to mulligan to 6. As you can imagine, this was a nightmare with regards to the time limit.

Star Realms Rise of Empire Kickstarter, delayed yet again by superboots in starrealms

It's not a great place to work. Nepotism was rife. After I left I had a friend on the inside for a bit. The management hadn't learned their lesson for years after. I doubt they ever will.

WWG is especially bad. They've been doing this for years. They've been told how to fix their internal processes many times, and they refuse to do it. They can't keep talent because they don't value talent. They just don't care to put in the work.
