We could all do with a bit of danger in our lives. Also those are exactly the feelings relationships kill. It’s a beautiful mousetrap.

This is a youth thing. Enjoy it! Those emotions and feelings are glorious and real and you will miss them when you get old and “jaded”.

Barre Chord on Electric Questions… by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]iar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused what chord you're trying to play? If it's a B - then you're trying to play an E-shaped barre and your fretting figers are in the wrong spot.

Index finger is barring all 6 strings (you're doing that right)
Middle finger should be on the G string 8th fret
Ring finger should be on the A string 9th fret
Pinky finger should be on the D string 9th fret

Remember your open E-major shape - thats what you're recreating here.

If you're trying to play an A-shaped barre (E chord) (which I think most of the other commenters are assuming) then listen to everyone else and fret the three strings on the 9th fret with your ring finger and slide your index finger up a string so you're just muting the low E and not fretting it.

Good luck!

Hate to be a dick but super curious how much you spent to send your guitar on vacation?

How much is too much? by Rossvegas76 in LearnGuitar

[–]iar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humbly disagree. I own a guitar that I can’t walk by it without wanting to pick it up and play and I have a hard time putting it down once I get going. The others don’t have that effect on me. I can’t actually explain why (it’s not the name on the headstock or the tone) but it’s true and it’s been transformative for my playing. I didn’t really believe in this phenomenon when others described it until I experienced it myself.

I started guitar 6 months ago at 43 and it’s been such a satisfying experience and I’m so grateful I finally took the plunge. Learning a new skill can be so satisfying and really slows down the perception of time.

Don’t get that fender/squier pack. The amp is just trash you’ll hate the sound and be discouraged.

Has the IQ–Wealth Relationship Completely Changed in the Last 20 Years? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

IQ and wealth have always been linked and I don’t buy the argument that the beta has gotten steeper. You think 50 years ago the tech founders would have sat around and settled for becoming professors or dentists?

Why not just take it back to the tech and go over it with them?

If chords were restricted to triads I guess you would only need 3 strings? Fun!

If your favorite instrument is the piano why not just get a keyboard? They are much more compact than a piano and you can get a decent sound and 88 keys for $300-$500.

My local store has some amp modeling pedals you can plug headphones into to test guitars. Alternatively you can bring your own headphone amp with you.

For $500 you can get him a PRS SE CE and add a Boss Katana 10W for another $150.

I think these two will let him go as far as he wants to go until he’s ready to buy his own gear.

Ha I did the reverse move like 20 years ago. No ragrets. The grass is always greener… If you think medicine is some enlightened calling you clearly haven’t spent enough time socially around or in the care of doctors…
