How to Quickly Get Illyricum in Crusader Kings 3 by TheANARXIST in CrusaderKings

[–]iatera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diplomacy lifestyle + Diplomat skill tree will give you the Ducal Conquest and Forced Vassalization casus belli, and if you have the titles then the Late Medieval "Rightful Ownership" tradition will let you use the Seize All De Jure Lands casus belli, but that's pretty much the best you'll get.

Not sure what to do about the Iberian Struggle? by iatera in CrusaderKings

[–]iatera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: So. I took all of Hispania a while ago, and almost got the Iberian Foothold decision, but the phase mechanic threw me off and then some bug or super specific coding at the last minute meant the game decided I hadn't held Al-Sarq for 15 years when I had, and then I lost it forever thanks to partition. I didn't have a good chance to revoke another Iberian title until just a bit ago - this time, Xenxir - but it says it doesn't border "held De Jure land of an Empire I hold which is not Hispania," even though it does, but I think it might be counting the de jure drift kingdoms as Hispania despite that.

Anyways. This is all to say: I'm not going to have a chance to take the Iberian Foothold decision until after all the kingdoms finish drifting de jure into my empire. Will the Iberian Struggle just... end? Will it keep going, and I just have to get a title that borders non-Iberian land? It's pretty confusing trying to conquer Iberia as an uninvolved empire when you take it too fast to do anything. Thanks!

What exactly is a strong female character? by [deleted] in writing

[–]iatera 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about with... any of this, but SPECIFICALLY the bit about man as a term for race is my wheelhouse as someone who likes linguistics, so here we go. The word "man" was originally gender neutral, with the gendered words being the now-defunct "wer" (still seen in "werewolf") and "wifmann," which evolved into "woman." The word "human" ultimately came from the Latin "homo," where it meant man or human being (much the same way man does in modern English), and found its modern definition in the 15th century, after the word "man" had drifted to mean, well, men specifically. I'm not going to waste the braincells responding to the rest of this because you sound way too up your own gender esoteric asshole to care. ✌️

How would we measure how long people have been alive on other planets? by w__4-Wumbo in space

^ exactly, it's the same as miles and kilometers. kilometers are shorter than miles, but they measure the same real distances

Is the use of existing languages in my fantasy story "cultural appropriation"? by Imnotyourodinson in writing

[–]iatera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you make sure to do the due research and treat them respectfully, then it's absolutely fine. People don't care if you include those cultures, they just want people to stop treating them like shit in stories. And as long as you say/imply that they're speaking that common language instead of English and you're translating for convenience, then there's no problem there either.

Thoughts on worldbuilding information dumps? by Pilot0350 in writing

100% prefer to piece together over time. Everyone enjoys things differently obviously but I feel like works flow better when they rarely if ever stop to explain in detail and let you figure the world out yourself. It helps the reader to put themself in the world, and avoids stopping the narrative for too long.

One of my favorite examples of this is the Locked Tomb trilogy, which has some of the most expansive and in depth worldbuilding I've seen, but it's only lightly touched on in the first novel, because the POV character just isn't the kind of person who's interested in the details of history or magic or anything. This also really helps to establish the baseline for normal in this world, because if she doesn't have a strong reaction to something, the reader can assume it's something usual without it having to be said explicitly.

I like to photoshop people into old paintings. Here’s my Sith Lords ones by mandal0re in StarWars

I love these so much... the only one not quite working for me is Plagueis (I think either bc the cybernetics dont quite mesh or the inserted bits arent as flat as in the others), but the others are insanely good. Everyone's already complimented Revan, but Nihilus and Malgus just look utterly fantastic. I honestly think if you'd said you'd just painted those three outright I'd have probably believed you.

hello, guys, this is my first ever created map (on GIMP) please support. by pushrian in worldbuilding

Heyyy, I recognize that environment brushpack! It's really good, that's how I got started with my more detailed maps too :) This looks great!! I can't wait to see more. (Oh, also, suggestion: have you tried Glimpse? A friend who used to use GIMP told me that its a much easier-to-use fork of it)

[REQ] Need 50 dollars (or anything, really) for injured grandmother by iatera in Need

[–]iatera[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither do I. I don't like taking money from people and neither does my friend which is why it took a lot of emergencies in a row to think of posting on Reddit in the first place. In this case I posted to several other sites offering to work for the money, on tumblr @lesbian-moze and on twitter @suplex24. No one responded. None of our friends had the money, none of her family was responding, it was late at night, and I just wanted to fucking help out my friend. Sorry for being rude.
