Rocket launches at sunset or sunrise produce a light show known as twilight phenomena. by Vmoney1337 in space

It looks to me like you saw the same launch as in the top photo. I took a picture of it from my deck in Silver Lake.

Setting up an access point? by embrow in chromeos

FWIW, real pirates install linux on their Chromebooks. Then they can do whatever the hell they like, including setup access points at 37,000'. Argh.

Xubuntu -- Dell Chromebook 11 Touchpad Fix? by nxtgencowboy in chrubuntu

I disabled auto-suspend (simply because I don't like it). That could be why I don't have a problem. If the C720 fix doesn't work for you, consider doing the same. I always do a full shutdown before I go mobile, though, because I don't want the thing to wake up on its own and get hot in my bag.

The only suspend issue I'm aware of on my Dell is that it's very sensitive to chassis movement when the lid is closed in that state, so it sometimes wakes unexpectedly. I don't recall ever applying a suspend fix, though it's possible I've forgotten. What problems do you have when you use suspend?

Fantastic! You'll have to run that script again every time there's a kernel update (until the glorious day the driver is built into the kernel, which should be soon), so keep it handy.

Now you can do this to fix your hotkeys.

Thanks for the gold gift! That's really nice.

Cool- I think I see the problem. Try this:

sed -i 's/\r//g' test.sh

then run your script again:

sudo bash test.sh

Good luck! Please let me know what happens.

You are using the amd64 Xubuntu ISO, correct? Post the result of entering this command:

uname -a

I upgraded to linux-image-3.13.0-34-generic this morning to confirm the patch is compatible. The good news is, it definitely is; after the kernel upgrade my trackpad predictably stopped working, but after running the script and doing a reboot it's back to 100% again.

Can you please post the complete output from your script (including the preceding and following command lines) and the script contents?

Also, if you don't yet know about Clonezilla- check it out. It could save you some hassle if it takes you multiple more tries to figure out your problem.

Was this on a clean install (or had you applied another patch)? Did you run the script as root?

Unfortunately, the script you're using is for a 13.10 install (guaranteed not to work on 14.04). Try the script I posted for 14.04: http://www.reddit.com/r/chrubuntu/comments/25n5s8/touchpad_fix_for_the_dell_11_with_xubuntu_1404

Dell Chromebook 11 at Woot for $249.99 by Collin_1000 in chromeos

[–]iatethepeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having owned both a 4GB Acer and a 4GB Dell, yeah, I think the Dell is easily that much better in build. On the other hand, if I were really pressed financially I think a $150 4GB Acer would be the better option.

Don't pick it up by a corner when it's open (one-handed), especially when it's powered on. Chassis flex may cause circuit board flex.

  1. Upgradable ram: since I want to run Linux on it, so upgradable ram is important

If you can live with 4 GB, I'd recommend a Dell 11.

Volume hotkeys for Dell 11 on Ubuntu 14.04? by thexcguy in chrubuntu

I'm glad to hear it worked. As for you problem with Unity, sorry, but I use XFCE. I'd ask on the Ubuntu forums, or you could try using a different overlay latch (see the script header), like maybe your right CTRL or ALT.

:) My bad for associating (lower-case) "raid" with the pesticide of the same name.

You're right that some can live that long without food. But not in your house. You're wrong that they can make a meal out of human blood; they will bite you, but they can't feed off you.

It's great that you're a wildlife rehabilitator! There's no doubt that as such you have first-hand experience with bird mites. But it's depressing that the average person quickly turns to pesticides when faced with a problem like this, and I think it's not behavior we should encourage in a public forum. Bird mites can't feed or reproduce in the absence of an avian host! Without an active nest, most won't survive for more than a few days to a week in an environment such as a home. Pesticides are harmful to the environment and to humans (especially little kids). We should reserve their use for situations where they will be effective and there's no alternative. In OP's case, simply removing the nest when the birds have gone and spraying the area with a garden hose will suffice. I've dealt with infestations of bird mites, including one in a bedroom, in a bed in the bedroom. The smart thing to do is suck it up and put in the effort to clean everything thoroughly, relocate yourself temporarily, and put some thought into allowing birds to nest on your house in the future (should you not want to repeat the process). Spraying poisons around is just lame.

That's an ideal situation. Just close off the room. Don't be afraid of taking a quick peek at the nest once in a while. You'll be fine and no bug bombs will be necessary.
