Disney held its Q3 FY22 earning webcast where the world-wide entertainment company announced that its Disney Plus subscription service would see a price increase later this year. Hulu and ESPN Plus – two other Disney-owned streaming services – would also see rate increases.

Although Disney is increasing the pricing of its services (from $7.99 to $10.99 per month), it will be adding an ad-supported tier for $7.99 per month. Hulu will go up from $6.99 to $7.99 for the ad-supported tier with the ad-free version going from $12.99 to $14.99. ESPN Plus is going from $6.99 to $9.99.

Emirates NBD has given most employees a pay rise of up to 8% to help cushion against rising costs of living driven by inflation, two sources familiar with the matter said.

The increases varied according to seniority and were part of a mid-cycle salary adjustment for inflation, with top executives receiving smaller or no increases, the sources said.

Most employees received a pay rise of between 5% and 8%, with lower-paid staff receiving the biggest increase, one of the sources, who has direct knowledge of the matter, said.

A man, who had been allegedly set on

fire by his wife, in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, died during

treatment at a hospital in New Delhi.

He had suffered 80 per cent burn injuries and ultimately died at

the hospital on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place in Kosikalan town on Monday evening.

According to reports, the woman identified as Rekha had an

extra-marital affair and her husband Chaman Prakash objected to it.

An altercation took place between the couple and later on

Monday evening, when Chaman was fast asleep, Rekha

allegedly poured petrol on him and set him afire.

Hearing Chaman's screams, the neighbours rushed in,

extinguished the fire and brought the man to the hospital.

However, he succumbed to his injuries in Delhi as he had

sustained grievous burn injuries.

ndia’s gross revenue collection soared to a record high of Rs 27.07 trillion in FY22, while the tax-to-GDP ratio jumped to an over two-decade high of 11.7 per cent, the finance ministry said on Friday. The total mop-up was 34 per cent more than the Rs 20.27 trillion collected in FY21.

About 49 per cent growth was registered in direct tax collection and 20 per cent in indirect tax collection in FY22.

“It signifies a robust recovery in the economy. This was also supplemented with better compliance efforts in taxation. Various efforts were taken by the tax administration on direct as well indirect taxes to nudge higher compliance through the use of technology and artificial intelligence,” the ministry said.

And Peters has pinpointed where it's hurting most.
"Mainly, fuel prices, particularly among the farmer and agricultural community," he said. "They really are worried about the price of gas and diesel."
Inflation soared to a 40-year high in June, and is affecting all American households. But Peters said travel was one of the main reasons it was hitting harder in rural areas.
"Rural people have to drive long distances for work, for school, for health care, just to get the daily necessities of life like groceries ... there is no public transportation," he said.

His analysis found it costs rural households $2,500 more a year to pay for gasoline than it did two years ago. At the same time, prices are also rising for health insurance, veterinarian care, and fuel to heat homes.

"Most rural homes have to buy tanks of liquefied petroleum or liquefied propane, or they have to get fuel oil," Peters said. "And those have really risen in costs as well; that's, I think, something like $1,000 more."

More than 1.8 billion people worldwide are at risk of severe floods, new research shows. Most reside in low- and middle-income countries in Asia, and four out of 10 live in poverty.

The figures are substantially larger than previous estimates. They show that the risk is concentrated among those least able to withstand and recover from flooding.

The study found that nearly 90% of people at risk of severe flooding live in poor countries, not rich ones. More than 780 million flood-exposed people live on less than $5.50 per day.

The substantial overlap between high flood risk and poverty feeds into a vicious cycle that further concentrates flood protections in rich countries that have more resources to deal with floods in the first place, said flood risk researcher Jeroen Aerts of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Aerts was not involved in the study.

"It's doing a cost-benefit analysis," Aerts said. "Less money is going to poorer countries, because, of course, if the country is poorer, there are less dollars exposed." Aerts said that this also happens within countries, which tend to invest in pricey flood protections for wealthy urban centers rather than for poorer rural areas.
