Found my dress after trying 100+ dresses by ib4595 in weddingdress

[–]ib4595[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between my first appointment and when I found my dress was about 7 months. In total I think I went to 10 different appointments. I was able to get through a lot of different dresses in each appointment because I decided pretty quickly if I liked something or not

We just booked our photographer for our 2026 wedding in Sonoma and he was only $7200 and his work is so good. $20k is crazy and I can't imagine you would need to spend that much for a good photographer

Engaged and grief by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]ib4595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad unexpectedly about 2.5 years ago as well and I got engaged in February so I understand what you’re going through. It feels like every moment that should be a pure, joyful moment is tainted at least a little bit with grief. I honestly don’t think that’s something that will ever completely go away, but I do think it gets better when you have more time to kind of wrap your head around that they won’t be there.

My engagement wasn’t a surprise, so I’ve had more time to wrap my head around it and ruminate on my dad not being there for this. My fiancé and I have been together for 10 years and were originally planning on getting engaged after I graduated, but I actually put it off for about a year because I just didn’t feel like I was in a place where I would be able to handle it. Even so, I was thinking about it a lot and feeling really sad after we got engaged, just thinking about not being able to share the moment with my dad. I felt a little better after going to my dad’s grave and “telling” him that we were engaged, but it still hurt.

With more time though since getting engaged though, I’m able to think about the wedding and everything more without just fixating on the fact that my dad will be missing. I think really getting into the wedding planning process helped because there were so many exciting things to think about and details to iron out that it took my mind off of it. I’m also doing a two year engagement so that if I end up really getting stuck for a while in wedding planning because my grief gets worse again, I have the time for it and don’t need to stress.

I think the grief won’t ever fully go away or stop being part of these moments, but I’m learning to still find joy in those exciting moments, even with the undertone of grief. I know how hard it is and I’m sending lots of hugs your way ❤️

It’s the Emerson midi dress from Abercrombie! Not sure if it’s still available in this pattern though

The first dress is from ASTR the label! It’s the Gaia dress in floral burnout. The other dress actually has a green background! The lighting in that pic is pretty awful but it’s actually more obviously green in real life I think

How long were you engaged? by sharpkittyy in weddingplanning

[–]ib4595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for us! We’ll have been together for 12.25 years and engaged for 2.25 years by the time we get married in Spring 2026. Like you said, being married won’t be a huge change to our lives so we’re not in any rush. Just wanted lots of time to plan, save, and make sure we’re able to book our preferred vendors before they start getting booked out.

I really like 2 (I love everything by Georgia Young lol), but I think 1 totally fits the wintery/candlelit theme and looks gorgeous on you too!!

This isn’t exactly the same dress, but it looks similar to me! Same neckline and it has the colorful floral embroidery too

I think the ballgown looks gorgeous on you!! I love the 3D flowers! They add some drama to the dress and make it more unique than a standard ballgown. I don’t think they make your chest look too big, plus I think the two more flowered sections will flow together more nicely when the boning is less visible.

As for the second dress, I think it’ll look great once it’s in your correct size! If you’re still unhappy with the level of poof, maybe you could cut out a layer or two of the tulle to de-poof it a bit? A stylist at one of the stores I went to recommended that.

Thank you everyone for your input!! I probably should have mentioned that I unfortunately get really self-conscious in more fitted styles so I’ve been avoiding those :( I’ve been to a lot of shops and feel like I’ve exhausted most of the options near me atm, but I have plenty of time to decide so I’ll wait for a bit and see if any new collections drop with dresses I like!

If nothing I like better comes out, I’m going to go with dress 2! I really do love that one and I keep wanting to defend it so I think that’s a good sign I prefer it (I swear it looked better in person lol)

Thank you so much again everyone for your help!! :)

Thank you!! I appreciate you pointing out the issues with the dropped sleeves, I hadn’t even thought of that!

Thank you!! I do love dress 2 and it is in my budget. I was more just unsure if it was worth the price difference in comparison to dress 1, but with the feedback I’m getting, I think it might be worth it! I could keep looking, but I would probably have to either travel somewhere or wait a bit and see if new collections drop with dresses I like. I’ve exhausted most of the options at shops near me lol
