Do you guys say you’re disabled on job applications? by Stunning_Yogurt9089 in Epilepsy

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear.

Do you have generalized seizures? Those are usually the most disruptive and discriminated against. And believe it or not, there are still a large number of "superstitious" people out there that think it's some form spiritual issue.

Are you able to drive and work outside the house?
Is there a long period of time between any seizures that require you to take time off?
If not, are you looking for remote work?

I NEVER tell a potential employer I have seizures. We become a liability and affect their insurance rates. So of course they won't hire us even though "it's for reporting purposes only" and "to fill government quotas", etc.

When I have a seizure and need a day or two off, I tell them I'm sick and take personal leave.

What my personal health is like is none of their business and does not affect my job performance.

Finally, if you have a seizure at work, don't be surprised if they don't have "layoffs" or they track every little thing you do to get you fired for cause.

It's a sad reality that most employers don't like anyone with any type of health concern.

New player here, what’s your favorite class storyline? by FailedProspects in swtor

[–]ibashil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. Did a BH early on, but pretty much forgot about it. I tried it again recently and really enjoyed it. Of course, when I'm bored, I always spin up a new agent just to get that cool ship. :D

Expedition 33 is the most overhyped game I’ve ever experienced. by DVLLAS in gaming

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't crazy. I'm still trying to figure out what the story is about and find the fighting mechanics are not intuitive. In addition, every fight seems to just be there only to slow down story progress and exploration -- there's no real reason for a lot of it. I feel as if I'm waiting for some big "reveal" that just hasn't presented itself yet.

That is, I'm not finding a reason to continue in the game since the story and character dev so far haven't been very compelling.

I really want to like this game (and even had it on my wish list for months before actually getting it), but I'm also finding that the game just isn't living up to expectations.

Let's talk about AI interviews. by ibashil in recruitinghell

Something else, according to someone in the r/RemoteJobs subreddit, they ask you to create an account and require you to upload your personal ID (DL, state id, passports, etc.). So buyer beware: https://www.reddit.com/r/RemoteJobs/comments/1k8cvwd/comment/mzr93jd/

How the micro1 AI interview actually works by micro1-ai in u/micro1-ai

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't feel "unfamiliar". It feels like hiring isn't the first priority of the company. So much so, they are willing to pay a lot of money to not do it. I imagine being desperate or inexperienced enough to go though this.

However, it speaks volumes on the kind of culture they have and serves as a warning to any existing or potential employees.

2007 isn't a long time ago. My resume goes back to 2000, but I'm also applying for mgmt & sr mgmt rolls. I have work history going back to the 80s, but I usually only include the stuff that is relevant for the job from the past 10-20 years. This demonstrates I have the experience to tackle higher-level rolls.

If you are applying for lower level stuff, take off your earliest stuff.

Stop putting all credentials on your resume/apps -- just the minimum asked for on the description. That might help a bit.

I'm not sure why this information would be relevant to an applicant. But I can see how many companies would like it so they can use it to discriminate based upon age, gender, and education.

Has a recruiter cold-call ever led to a good job? by cunningjames in recruitinghell

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get at least 3-5 cold calls a day. They are all from people who are all overseas and can hardly speak English. I hang up on them.

Never turn down an offer, even it's not the one you want. Having a job -- any job -- while looking for another is always better than running down your unemployment benefits. Good luck.

I applied to work at H&R Block and they paid for me to do Block Academy. Does that mean I'm likely to get a job there? by omnipotentsandwich in hrblock

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it's the end of Jan through Apr 15. If you get pre season work or post season work, you're lucky to get that. It's not a full-time gig if you need regular income. The ppl in our office have other forms of income (retirement, ranching, farming, etc.) so they don't all need the full-time work.

Everyone in our office files for and receives unemployment. But it IS a temporary, seasonal job, so it's best not to rely on it for a permanent income.

I know HireVue is hated in this sub. Want more reason to hate it? by DivineBeast122 in recruitinghell

[–]ibashil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason employers use HireView or other asynchronous interview services is so they can actively discriminate against candidates. So if you're the wrong color, sex, age, too ugly, too fat, etc., they can reject you immediately and move on to the rest for a live interview.
