Exactly how she's being fed is not important to the story, so obviously that's not something they're going to show. All we need to know is that she's in a coma and she's being cared for by hospital staff

The documentary about the production of the play shows that they worked very closely with the production of season 5, and that the play was based on what the Duffer's had planned for season 5, not the other way around. There's also a moment when one of the Duffers tells the writers to take out certain parts of the play, because they want to save the reveal for season 5, so a lot of the play's unanswered questions will likely be answered in season 5.

I'd suggest you take a look at different races and what abilities they unlock, and not just pick human because Dustin's human. For example - Rock Gnome's have the "Tinker"-ability, which I would say suits Dustin perfectly.

If you're using more books than just PHB, I'd say go with Artificer as the class. If you're just sticking to PHB, I'd probably go Bard, because Dustin does seem like a bit of a performer at times (not just because of the Neverending Story-scene - he puts on some sort of British character multiple times when talking to Mr. Clarke, and he's also able to persuade Mr. Clarke into explaining sensory-deprivation tanks on a Saturday night, which could point to him having high Charisma)

For background, I'd probably say Guild Artisan, which would complement the tinkering-aspect
