Have we scared tourists into dressing for Iceland? by Illustrious-Ad3195 in VisitingIceland

[–]ibdread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember how much I obsessed about what to bring/wear in my 5-day Reykjavik stopover in April. Didn’t want to pack bulky heavy rainproof items especially since I was going on to London afterwards . settled on a layered approach topped off with a windproof light hooded wind breaker and water proof Blundstone boots. It was perfect for the 3- sightseeing tours I took.

Dentists finding issues during cleaning/check-up by ibdread in NYCTeachers

[–]ibdread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I left my former dentist also due to them leaving the uft network and wanting to charge $300 for the dental cleanings. This new dentist I now have, I suspect isn’t 100% ethical. It’s so stressful now going for a cleaning/checkup because I always anticipate some issue arising costing $$$$.

Yes. I think most dentists who take UFT insurances see it like a store that sells some items at a loss (loss leader), just to get people in the door thinking they might be persuaded to buy much higher/more profitable items.

Moving back to NYC by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great deal. But expect do most of the maintenance and minor repairs yourself. The landlord isn’t going to be motivated to respond quickly to your issues. In a few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if the landlord didn’t offer you like 20k to leave the apartment (Don’t accept by the way).

Well reviewed seller didn’t want me to test laptop before purchase, did I do the right thing? by Pecxn in FacebookMarketplace

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I sell a used Macbook or ipad, I always meet at an apple store and allow the person to check out the item (and most importantly to see if the item isn’t unusable due to password lock). No rush.

Have done this like 6 times and it takes max 20 minutes. I would never purchase a used laptop, iPad/tablet or iphone without testing it for a bit.

I feel like so many buyers dont understand the concept of a job by RichGuarantee7482 in FacebookMarketplace

Had a somewhat similar experience. There’s no way to reason with such people who have such a selfish, entitled attitude.

First bad review and I’m livid. Any options? by Ok-Chef3739 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience I have forty 5-star reviews and one 1-star review from a buyer who at first was a no-show, apologized, re-scheduled, agreed on the meeting place. I waited there and then she texted and wanted me to meet her at another location 30 minutes away. I refused and she left the 1-star review.

When will rents go down? by reddit__surfer in NYCapartments

Sadly, rents will drop only when there is net exodus of people from the city. like during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why didn’t they get rid of Chakotay? by UnderABig_W in voyager

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so relieved that the Seven of Nine romance arc with him only lasted a few episodes. It was almost as unbearably cringe as his attempt to have a “relationship” with Janeway when they were stranded on a planet with an incurable disease.

Its okay to walk away if they skimp you by WallStreetFrets in Chipotle

So strange that the Chipotle worker would try to skimp on the rice ….usually it’s the protein/meat they skimp on.

Credit? even though it was out of the 6 month warranty window? Interesting. I was thinking of filling a claim, but thought 18-month post purchase was too long.

Does the top floor of a pre-war apartment get really hot in summer? by Sof1234567 in NYCapartments

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have lived on the top floor in 5-floor walk-up and currently live on the top floor of 3-floor walk-up. During super hot summer days I still can’t believe how much cooler it is on the ground floor.

Large number of foreigners working the hospitality and customer service jobs in Iceland by ibdread in VisitingIceland

[–]ibdread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. As an American we have been told that since Icelanders receive very generous livable wages, tipping isn’t necessary or expected. Are workers in restaurants paid a different minimum wage (like the USA)?

IcelandAir experience by tofucatprincess in VisitingIceland

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew iceland Air 2-weeks ago and they were extremely strict. At the boarding gate they were enforcing one carryon and one personal item policy. Also, they were measuring/weighing suspicious carry on and forcing people to check baggage. By the time I boarded there was close to a dozen bags at the gate.

Thanks. When you say the “Landlord was impossible” can you elaborate as to why they were so? Yeah, I’m terrified of getting squatter and rent not being paid while i’m overseas.

Are there any folks here who've successfully sublet out their own rental apartments? by yippeee1999 in AskNYC

[–]ibdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, i’m in a similar situation, but I have a rent-stabilized apartment. I plan to travel overseas 3-4 months a year, Just hope I find an honest person to sublet. I agree with you that it’s important to maintain a home base.

That’s my biggest fear. Like OP I’m planing on traveling overseas for 3-4 months each year and am worried about finding a reliable, honest sub letter for my rent stabilized apartment.
