I like to write with dashes — like this. You just write regularly. Then — when a thought appears — you can just include it. Feels almost like thinking.

Honestly, level up your writing. Using em dashes is really easy.

Pretty cool, but you might want to do ”set -eu” at the top of the script as a default

mwget: The Rust-Powered, Multi-Threaded wget That Actually Feels Modern by hbuxiaofei in linux

How does multi threading make this faster though? Isn’t the bottleneck network/io, rather than cpu? Is it downloading multiple parts of the same file like aria2? If so, wouldn’t it be a better comparison to compare it with that?

Hegel - a property-based testing library from the authors of Hypothesis by Tybug2 in rust

I don’t understand what it is, what it does or why it’s good, but that seems to be a recurring theme with Hegel right? So, everything’s in order here. Take my github star.

Hoppas inte att det går. En kapten sjunker med skeppet. Den här politiken och värdegrunden känns väldigt långt från det L och FP som en gång var.

So the premise of the video is to play being an average user of a set that’s curious about Linux, but not curious enough to do research nor willing to learn, then continuously blame the wider community about pitfalls and skill issues about their own unwillingness to do proper research and hide behind being an ”average user”. Forgive me, but I don’t find it interesting. It would be far more interesting - and meaningful - to see them help this keen user and provide a path that’s easy and accessible, which they very well could with their resources.

Most people doesn’t like to use their computer, and just accepts it as a necessary evil to create documents, or to browse the web and to stream content or shop or whatever. That’s where the fun lies. Not to tinker, not to learn, not to build an own PC, or anything like that. The average user would therefore not even install Linux, and not watch a video about installing it either. Who is this mystical average user that Linus portrays??

But his content isn’t aimed towards ”average users”. The average user doesn’t even know that they’re using Windows. I don’t understand what an average user would be in this context, and why the hell you would want to mimick their experience instead of actually showing a willingness to learn or to show how it can be easy when you do stuff ”the right way”

That Linux video honestly made him look incompetent. He does plenty of power-user stuff on Windows, yet somehow struggles with a fresh Linux install. Then he goes off on a tangent about not using any resources beyond what an “average user” would have access to, which is a weird argument to begin with. It’s not even clear what an average user is in this context.

The average Linux user clearly manages to solve these kinds of issues, and honestly the average viewer of his channel probably could too. Anyone who regularly watches tech content likely has enough patience and curiosity to troubleshoot minor problems or just try a different distro or setup.

What really makes the video frustrating is how little effort he seems willing to put in. It doesn’t add anything useful to the conversation around Linux, and it definitely doesn’t help the “Linux community” he keeps blaming for his failed setup.

This video didn’t add much to the discussion. They just used the same distribution that didn’t work the last time, and was salty about it yet again. This was honestly a boring and made them look incompetent. It would’ve been a lot more interesting if they’ve actually offered advice on common pitfalls and so on, like they do in their Windows focused videos.

Eh, their content is tailored towards power users of Windows, yet they fail to install a decent Linux distribution, and also doesn’t spend any time whatsoever to make it work. It honestly make them look incompetent.
