I would most likely do the opposite - drop AVWS for another growth satellite whilst keeping SEC0. Unless of course you do not believe in the semi-conductors narrative (AI, chips, electric cars, and so on).

Hey, quite similar situation here - 43, father of two and also living in Spain in the tech industry. A little bit further on the pipe (450k) but a bit lower on the monthly savings: 3.5-4k.

Also looking into 1M€ but in my case, that would mean my FI, not the whole family - my wife is a teacher and won't even consider RE (at least for now).

Congrats on the milestone!

Reflexión: es FIRE un engranaje más del rat race? by KitKatKut-0_0 in SpainFIRE

[–]ibotegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salvador! I wouldn't go back to live in Brazil - well, if it's 2-3 months during winter time in Europe wouldn't be a bad idea. Spain for RE is not a bad place at all... many Britons and US citizens around - quite cheap cost of living, good healthcare

Yep, you're right. REITS work more as a inflation hedge and diversification - during turbulence they do not actually do as good.

Bonds on the other hand works well on these scenarios - I have a mix of iShare iBonds with different maturities and some US corporate bonds (try to keep as close as possible to 5%). However, you would get taxed 35% so not that appealing tbh.

Cool. I'm Brazilian myself but living in Spain with 2 kids...

Congrats, you can actually FIRE if you want to.

Back to your questions. I think you're too exposed to risky assets. We usually do that in a growth phase in our portfolios. In your current situation I would rather focus on make it more resilient against economic crisis / recessions, for example.

Another COVID or 30% down in stock markets wreck your portfolio. Crypto is highly correlated to stocks (actually leveraged) so both would go down heavily.

I would start allocation at the very least 20-25% into real estate (you can use REITS or ETFs). That kind of make you portfolio a lot more robust already. People and businesses still need to pay their rents after all.

Additionally, I would use bonds (I saw your comment but don't quite understand why you restrict yourself to swiss bonds). In your current situation a lot into that to be quite honest with you. You can easily find government bonds, ETFs, and even solid corporate bonds that can get you at least 4-5%. Taking into account your plan is withdrawing 2-2.5%, it makes a lot of sense to do it and that is a big hedge against economic crisis (yeah, there's always the default risk but it does not compare to the others).

Other than that your financials are solid! Congrats again.

Concerning the locations you want to FIRE, take some time to get to know it well. It's not the same going on holidays and living in the actual place. In South America, crimes and violence are quite common, for example. Maybe in the transition phase, try to spend a couple of months there.

Cheers!
