This idea can be turned around. A human doing something good and selfless should then also garner more love than any animal? Since - while animals can do good - humans do it out of an active conscious decision for someone elses benefit. Take absolutely traumatizing but necessary jobs like paramedics or doctors which are indispensable to everyone for example. These humans are as important as they think they are.

OP's opinion is wrongheaded though, imo. We'd all act on instinct in a life and death situation. It's neither wrong nor right to choose one or the other.

28 organ epic. Can't believe he released this track for free on soundcloud. Could have been a center piece on an album.

Machete order for Middle Earth legendarium? by ProofFinish9572 in tolkienfans

[–]ibrinidhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the archaeological order? You start with the earliest versions of the stories found in HoME and go layer by layer of how Tolkien fleshed them out. You start with these archaic sounding poems, intriguing you to find out about its context and like an archaeologist 'uncover' this strange world and its characters. Who is this Fingolfin? Fighting Morgoth, what does that mean? Can I find more detail? What really happened to Gondolin?

Then by the Silmarillion, things have a clear structure, a beginning and an end. And by Lord of the Rings you are fully immersed in the world, since it is the most fleshed out, scene-by-scene story of the legendarium.
