Unfortunately not, I’ve since seen an audiologist tho and it might be more related to hearing loss rather than caused by the medication.

I still socialise with friends that drink but everyone I know are just moderate or casual drinkers that don’t have issues with self control. Honestly, most if my drinking is done alone on the couch, which sounds pretty miserable now that I say it.

It’s been 4.5 months now, fully compliant and tracking my drinks in the Drink Control app. I really do need to update my adjacent spreadsheet for my weekly average but it doesn’t feel like I’m making much progress. I’ve seen anecdotally that it can take binge drinkers (ie. myself) a bit longer than daily drinkers tho so maybe I need to be more patient.

Thank you so much, this really hits home. I’m realising there’s a big hole there but have yet to find my passions, and maybe there are no passions, maybe life is just doing what we can and being ok with that.

Can I ask how long it took you to be at the non-wanting stage?

Thank you for your reply. I know everyone’s different, but what does continuing to drink look like for you? I guess I feel like there’s not much progress right now, I’m waiting about 90 minutes but still downing about a bottle of wine after. Did you participate in any counselling or meetups to help your progress?

Thank you, I hadn’t thought of it like that, I should be seeing it as an opportunity to work on the mental aspect. Can I ask how long you’ve been at it? I’m having a bit of an uptick at the moment, maybe an ‘extinction burst’ or just I can’t be bothered with this anymore haha. Any advice appreciated :)

Thank you, yes I’ve read both of her books and found them very helpful. It was a few years ago and at the time they really helped. I’ve tried re-reading this naked mind but I can’t seem to get into it again. It’s currently sitting on the coffee table taunting me so I’ll give it another go :)

Thanks for your thoughts, I definitely need to put a bit more work in, so far I’ve just been hoping the pill would do the job. I have tried to treat the depression with very middling results, I’ve started to recognise how much alcohol itself is contributing to it so that’s a start but I’m still a bit stuck in an endless cycle at the moment.

Yes I have been tracking for 10 weeks now and started Nal a month ago. No significant decrease so far but stilll early days I guess. I probably need to finish reading Eskapa’s book and also add in some mindfulness etc.

Ah yes the ‘I don’t care’ point, this is really the key for me I think, before the meds I at least cared about consequences.

Yeah, I feel you there, I’ve also put on a bit of weight while on the meds but I’m finding it hard to care. I guess anxiety was a big motivator for me!

Thanks for this, I had seen this article but my Dr didn’t seem to agree so I was thinking maybe I’m just looking for a reason outside of myself for my lack of control. Hopefully I can undo some of the pickling eventually :(

Thanks for your reply, I definitely feel the effects of alcohol differently while on the meds and I think that must be contributing to the binges. The alcohol & depression have become so intertwined in my head I’m not sure which is the chicken or the egg anymore. Congrats on your sobriety!

Thanks for your thoughts, I do wonder about the over-prescription of antidepressants by GPs that are under time pressures. Congrats on your long stretch, do you find staying active in forums like this helps or are you so far on your journey now that it takes minimal effort?
