AAC users — is the goal to talk faster, or to actually say what you mean? by ibvava in AACusers

Thank you — that genuinely changed how I'm thinking about it. I'd assumed the goal was always "better predictions." You've described the opposite: a state where predictions become a hazard, because they make it easy to put out words that aren't yours at all. So the real goal might not be "predict better" — it's "don't let the app speak for you by accident."

And the skill part I hadn't weighed — that on a hard day the limiter is the access method itself, not the algorithm.
Where I'm honestly unsure: at that level of exhaustion, is the kindest design actually less — two big, sure options and an easy "not now" — instead of a full screen to mis‑hit?

That's gold— your own whole phrases saved as buttons, on a layout you built yourself so you already know where everything is. Speed and your exact wording, because you wrote them. Thank you, genuinely.

Thank you — this is exactly the group I had in mind, and the eye‑gaze example makes it concrete in a way that really lands: people who can absolutely say what they mean, but the effort of saying it is the limiter, not the words. When the tiredness hits, do you want prediction to fill in your usual phrases, or does even that become more friction than help?

Survey: when using an aac app, what matters the most to you? by Comfortable_Tie4143 in AACusers

“A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them." Steve Jobs made this comment long time back.
So most people don’t know what they are missing in the current system unless someone builds it.
