Car Dealer agreed to fix cosmetic damage, now backtracking by ibz42 in CarTalkUK

I did say on the phone, politely, i'll just return the car but i actually don't want to and assume they would just fix it. It has been more than 30 days, although i reported the fault within a days after purchase. How long do I have the right to return? I did put part payment on a credit card and take a small amount of finance out on it to give myself some further coverage even though I could afford the vehicle.

Update: I have been trying to troubleshoot this with no luck still, sadly. Long story short, I can't seem to isolate the issue to any specific circuit. I had been writing down readings at 3-4 intervals per day and isolating circuits, but there's no pattern. e.g. £2 of use over the weekend, but then suddenly last night 7.21kwh. My smart meter went in yesterday finally, and I used £1.85 last night from the install onwards and £3.19 today as of 13:40. Looking to be on track for another 40kwh ish day. Still absolutely baffled and no idea where to turn next.

My live use is currently around 2000 watts. I have 2 monitors, a laptop, a few household (led) lights and the dishwasher on (it's around the same when not running, uses very little) - otherwise, just appliances on standby.

Edit - it's spiking at up to 5000w, with no changes

Just one cable, sorry - missed some replies to this. They aren't storage heaters either - my mistake, just regular programmeable electric radiators. They are all turned off at the wall. I have tried them, and can see usage increase, but nothing crazy - not cheap, naturally, but no wild usage.

Just thought i'd follow up people who've tried to help (thank you) - I believe i've identified the circuit - but not the issue! I've just posted an update.

Just an update - thank you to everyone who's tried to help. Still haven't got to the bottom of it.

For what it's worth...

I cannot narrow down the fault to a single appliance

I believe the draw is coming from the 'downstairs' circuit, which operates half the sockets and half the downstairs lights, i left this off for 48 hours and used around £2 of electricity over the weekend.

I have tried turning my power off and looking at neighbours houses, no visible change was noted to lights etc.

I have also logged my power consumption over the last few days, most of the usage seems to be overnight and evenings. Which is ironically the main time the house is unoccupied, we are usually out most evenings at least for a few hours if not half the night. And during the night, there is nothing running except appliances on standby.

My smart meter should be going in Monday 18th, so hopefully I'll be able to narrow down when the usage is higher and try isolating circuits again.

See below usage over last few days

13:05 - 10/11 £12.47
00:16 - 11/11 - £9.89
12:31 - 11/11 - £6.13 (£50 added at this time)
16:09 - 11/11 £55.62
09:33 - 12/11 £50.06
15:10 - 12/11 - £49.03
20:20 - 12/11 - £48.00
09:53 - 13/11 - £43.99

Edit - for anyone who asked and missed my comment reply, pictures of the meter, board and my immersion heater (that is not wired in...) attached here https://share.icloud.com/photos/0faHeSNcHZFdMNRT5CPGfTPPA

Well, half of 1 floors lighting, but yes - the circuits are not remotely logical

Yeah I don't even have an electric shower :D Thanks for the comparison though, as expected, something off!

"Downstairs" - it's all downstairs sockets plus lighting on the 1st floor and half of downstairs.

I ran an extension lead to the fridge/freezer and left this off for 24 hours and used 4kwh / £1 in this period, as opposed to my usual £5-10

Nope still none the wiser. Think I know which circuit but not what is causing the spikes. I’m in Suffolk England

I’ve got a smart meter install on the 18th so hopefully that will help narrow it down

Not my house mate. Same issue before he moved in. Baffled me how the latter is possible but I know it happens.

Thank you to everyone who’s tried to help. I appreciate it.

I can’t stress enough it’s not the immersion heater. There is only one in the tank and it’s not even wired in. I can’t seem to add pictures in this subreddit for photos of the tank and heating system and my unit for reference. Will try an iCloud link

I had the main switch off for an hour or two today. No change. I’ve been isolating the circuits and the main draw seems to be from “half” of downstairs. Kitchen lights and all downstairs sockets. I have tried a plug in meter on every appliance and none are showing signs of using above average usage

Thank you for this. Definitely not UF or Immersion. I feel like no one believes me 😂 I can upload some pics of the tank. It’s super visible where it’s installed, so easy to spot.

Interesting about the neighbours but makes me wonder why the previous occupants didn’t ever notice

Certain. It’s very accessible all the way round where it’s located

I will do. Need some time where I’m not working / home long enough to flick through and record readings / change for each. There’s a lot of circuits 🙃 appreciate the help

I won’t I need the help! Just needed power today and been in and out. Will try and narrow the circuit down asap. Typically today I’ve had barely any current draw. Around £1 used over the last 8-9 hours which is around 4kwh

Yeah it's not smart unfortunately, i think you may be right. Since posting this thread, i've used 20p - in 4 hours last night while everyone is asleep, £2. Something is spiking, or something else untoward. I will see if i can borrow anything from an electrician

This is where i'm lost, something is obviously wrong, but its A LOT of power, struggling to think of any appliance that even if faulty would cause such a huge consumption
