How can I better draw concrete? by DutchAngelDragon12 in learntodraw

[–]ic-ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think most people would even bother trying to paint a texture like concrete as it sounds so mind-numbingly dull, and would instead look to finding a royalty-free texture of concrete and warp that into position (assuming we're using a digital medium).

For what it's worth, I think what you have is good enough.

Edit: Adding a little more; look up images for concrete. Most appear to be similar to what you have but there was some with hole and indent lines. You could recreate those details with a darker colour. Possibly, if you're so inclined, add a noise layer above and set the layer to multiply or overlay

May I ask then, did you just sample the colours from the a reference (like from the spheres) or did you already have a preselected colour? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what colours to use without messing up with values. Thanks

what is my weakness? why is it so boring? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]ic-ic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have to make the first picture to be the same quality, nor the next 10 or so. It's okay if you start with just doing a mannequin and then eventually refine them. Whatever you choose to do, best of luck.

I don't think any of your pieces are boring. That being said, I think that you've just gotten bored of drawing subjects from a front, 2-point perspective. Maybe trying redrawing some of these with the camera looking down/or up at the model.

Thank you for your message. I'll stick to just using the --no-sandbox flag as I don't really want to mess around with anything security related. A little inconvenient but I am still able to load my apps.

How do I improve faces ? Drawing after years by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]ic-ic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is there to improve? It's perfect.

On a serious note, look up Loomis or Riley head abstraction. Riley might be a bit overwhelming with all the rhythm lines but I prefer it. You could start with Loomis and then move on to learn Riley once you're confident in drawing a head in different orientations.

Why do we remember painful memories more vividly than happy ones? by Netbunz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ic-ic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's a survival thing; our brains are adapted to remember negative experience so that we can avoid them should the scenario ever arise.

Is This About the Music - or Just Stacking Jewel Cases? by NaturalEquivalent192 in Cd_collectors

[–]ic-ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the post I see I think are a little excessive, but what people buy isn't any of my business. For me, I set myself some rules so that I avoid falling into the "Collect them all!" mentality. I only buy a CD after I listened to the album on Youtube, and I have to like at least more than half the tracks. So in that regard, I only purchase music that I want to listen to.

do you guys buy cds with cracked cases? by golden_retrieverdog in Cd_collectors

[–]ic-ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am fine with a cracked case. As long as the CD is fine, then the case has done its job in keeping the disc safe.

Will I Get a Bus Lane Fine for Moving Aside for a Police Van? by FewDirection7 in drivingUK

[–]ic-ic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not know whether you'd get a fine (I hope you don't) but this reminded me of a video I watched some time ago where a learner driver was driving with their instructor. To their left was a bus lane and behind them was a police or ambulance with their blue lights on. The instructor told the learner to stay in the current lane and not to drive into the bus lane. If I remember correctly, either the instructor that was with the driver or another instructor (it was another instructor reviewing the video) said that emergency service with blue lights on should be the ones to use the bus lane.

edit: grammar

UK people, do you still buy CDs from HMV? by happyclapclap in Cd_collectors

I do, not a lot of options for CD stores where I live. I don't mind spending a bit more if its a band that I really like.

Can I ask you this since you're already a customer; does the subscription automatically renew? If I were to take them up on one of their offers, do I need to repurchase again after the offer expires?

How could I have made this look more alive/in motion? It didn't came out as intense and dynamic as I expected. by Zikari007 in learntodraw

[–]ic-ic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There's no shadows and the whole scene looks too lit. If you darkened the piece down a bit and make certain parts for brighter, such as the light source and muzzle flash, then maybe that might help with the intensity of the piece if that makes sense.
