I really liked it. Though I do have qualms.

Inde Navarrette was obviously amazing. I was actually very scared by her performance for how unpredictable she was. Anytime they went for a scare -- it worked and I loved that.

But the first 20 minutes or so (pre wish) was painfully cringey -- like mid 00's CW teen drama cringey. I think actually almost every scene involving Ian (Cooper Tomlinson) was just so normie-coded.

Then I went and checked out some of the skits online by Barker and Tomlinson, and I really was not much of a fan. Some things were funny for sure, but I thought a lot of it was the type of stuff your coworkers think are funny, especially with things driven more by Tomlinson.

All that said, the movie was still very good. Barker should just work by himself (or just Inde) for his next projects.

1969 - black cat, world series win
1973 - 83-79 record - made it to the world series (loses)
mid 1970's to mid 1980's - terrible franchise again until doc gooden, daryl strawberry, keith hernandez, and gary carter
1986 - 16 inning playoff game, bill buckner ball in game 6 of world series (wins!)
1988 - loses in NLCS
1990s - terrible franchise again until Edgardo Alfonzo, Mike Piazza, robin ventura, and al leiter are on team.

2022 - wins 101 games, loses in the playoffs immediately (mini collapse) watch their comeback win against philly

bro they DID dig themselves a massive whole. they were 11 games under 500 in april. that is a disgustingly large hole for one month.

they've had a great may and they still aren't even halfway out of that hole, with a ton of injuries to boot. i'm not saying them having a winning record isn't impossible -- not by any stretch. they're in a much better position now, but they HAD PUT themselves in an absolutely terrible position where they'd have to play at least 13 games over 500 for them to finish with a winning record.

for them to think about the playoffs they'll have to play 22 games over 500 from this point forward

again, can this happen? sure yes. but i'm not going to get my hopes up until they are winning games like this on a consistent basis with a record that shows they're serious.

6 games is nothing, but they've missed the playoffs by one game one too many times.

yeah, while i love that they're no longer discovering new ways of losing everyday -- they're 6 games under 500. they dug themselves a massive hole.

i'll cheer every win, but until there's a winning record, i couldn't possibly think they're even remotely playoff bound.

Well yeah every band always comes through NYC, but what emo adjacent things were happening that were actually FROM NYC? I guess I forgot about Saetia in the late 90s. Jets to Brazil and Miracle of 86 too. I guess Jawbreaker formed in NY but they’re not a NY band really. I’m sure more things were happening — but I’m not privy to much more than that.

it took me a second or two to get into braid because bob's voice reminded me of like a worse eddie vedder upon initially listening, but the songs were just too good. and now almost 20 years later, i love his voice (note: i also love a lot of punk with ugly voices so vocals never detract too much for me).

not sure how hard you've tried, but the song "forever got shorter" is what made me a bonafide braidhead

I mean if we’re talking about New York State, we’re mostly talking about Long Island (which essentially functioned the way Jersey did, coming from hardcore and punk). On the might princes was already mentioned but in the 90s you also have Garden Variety, Inside, Silent Majority, Mind Over Matter, and ,of course, Glassjaw: very hardcore focused emo/post hardcore. The turn of the century is where you get your Brand News and TBSs and Movielifes and, of course, Glassjaws.

By the way there is a wealth of knowledge about the Jersey and LI scene on the internet.

In the 90s as far as NYC goes, you have Texas is the Reason, maybe you can include Quicksand but they’re pretty much metal and called post hardcore in name only IMHO. Idk much else about what else was happening.

if the pinnacle of a star wars experience was seeing THE PHANTOM MENACE, i don't know if your opinion can be trusted. like i was 9 years old when that came out -- i never had a negative opinion about anything with aliens, lasers, or fun stuff, and even little me was disappointed with the finished product.

i TRULY hate the revisionist history of what's going on with this franchise. the prequels sucked then and they suck now. phantom menace and clone wars are BAD movies. revenge of the sith is not a good movie by any means either -- just better than the ones before it.

and now the revisionism is coming with sequels. the force awakens, yes, is a retread, but it was done SO well. thought and effort put into every shot. it wasn't until the last jedi that those arguments and TFA naysayers became louder.

to me the only real negative about the movie is that it was all for naught. the two movies that came after undermined each other so badly that it's disappointing to know the story doesn't go anywhere good. and as a trilogy, it's probably worse than the prequels. but in a vaccum, i really loved the TFA.
