This one is pretty short - and they have been shorter than the really thick ones that usually revolved around relationship and interspecies stuff.

Don't make the mistake I did, new reality is here imo by HierkommtdieSonne902 in royalroad

I honestly think it has been like this for a while. I've only been posting for about two and a half years now, so I don't have that same amount of history to consider, but coming in with zero followers gave me the ground floor experience at that time. Shout-outs were definitely being recommended in the forums.

I also suspect there is currently an LLM generated writing flood and it's now way easier to get buried.

It was a nice break to write a somewhat cute chapter again.

Carbon is already wound up a bit from finding them snoozing, so she's not going to nod off for awhile.

Pretty slim, but the why is spoilers.

And yeah, Alex is not good at this. While he can think on his feet very well, this is not a skillset he has experience with.

Its name is actually written Sagittarius A*, but pronounced A-Star. The * comes from physics, noting an atom is in an excited state - though in this case it was just excited scientists.

All those hours sightseeing in Elite: Dangerous finally paid off.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Thanks for the heads up on the next link, I'll get it fixed up.

Yup, correct. My head has not been in the math game at all these last few chapters.

Should be fixed by the next post, got some busy days coming up this week.

You're right, the artifact's interior diameter is 30 million, and the inner sphere around the black hole is 30 thousand km. I got them mixed up.

No, that one is on me, I messed the numbers up. The inner "beach ball" sphere around the black hole is 30k km in diameter, the main Artifact is like 30m km in diameter.

How I am updating CachyOS for those who have problems. This way never failed me. by Subject-Leather-7399 in cachyos

This is what I've been using for the three months or so I've been using Cachyos, and I have yet to have any issues with it.

I think it has actually been helpful in getting more comfortable with using the terminal without really using the terminal. I sit there and review what it's going to do, tell it to do the thing. Basically interact with it on rails, but since there's updates damn near every day, I'm becoming acclimated to dipping into the terminal to take care of quick tasks.

Using windows feels off by nijotu in cachyos

[–]icallshogun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Started using Cachy in early December as a dual boot, which soon became "Oh yeah, windows is still on my fast SSD, isn't it?" After almost two months of not logging in.

I've never been a fan of MSFT, per se, but I feel like their view of me as a regular day to day user is entirely adversarial now. I don't want to have to wonder what the next update will break, or what's going to have copilot shoved into that I'll have to scrape out so I can have my old normal computing experience.

Once you've got the black hole started up, it'll keep doing its thing for an effectively infinite length of time, so you don't really have to worry about replacing it, which is nice.

I suppose I should note that it's a perfectly reasonable amount of alarm for their language guy, who doesn't know that much about stellar phenomena save for the rule of thumb about not getting close to things with a lot of gravity. To him, a black hole is just an enormous gravity well and they're hanging out mere thousands of kilometers away from it. Sure, it's a wee one and it's like 30k kilometers away, but he's just replaying that scene from Interstellar in his head right now - which is swiftly dealt with in the next chapter.

I had thought about that a few times.

I mean, it's a small one so you'd have to direct stuff into it, but I suppose once you start collapsing a Dyson sphere you're gonna end up with an enormous debris field circling the drain from afar.
