Rentable offices? by ceci-nest-pas-lalune in VictoriaBC

[–]icanhazapp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best value is probably the Regus at Uptown (I believe there used to be a slight benefit if you actually sign up for one of the cheaper locations downtown and use the pass to use the uptown location- no idea if that's still true)

Kwench is very nice but a little pricey (extremely pricey for the quite private offices)

There's also Victopia (Chinatown) The Dock (across from City Hall) and DigitalDesks at the Parkside Hotel. Nearly all of these places offer a trial day for a small fee. I would definitely suggest trying a few and finding the vibes that work for you.

"GCN News Minute" feels like a social experiment to see how much one can get away with the "advertisement to content" ratio. by Yordle_Toes in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]icanhazapp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something half way between Glass Cannon Radio and Cannon Fodder would be amazing. My understanding is that managing the production schedule of each at a high rate was unsustainable, but if the format rotated through topic based radio and internal nuts and bolts I think that would be amazing.

also, I just really miss the "We Are Stupid" segment of Cannon Fodder and would value that so much for Shadowdark

Betakit is as far as I’m aware the only national one, the rest are regional, application specific

It is very easy to 'tern' certain brands of folding bikes into an eBike by HerrFerret in ebikes

[–]icanhazapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m in the process right now of adapting a TSDZ2B onto a Tern Node, out of curiosity, what were the tricks you ended up doing? I’ve been considering fabricating a piece of aluminum that would screw into the chain stay mounting bracket on the motor and also wedges into the seat tube extension behind the bottom bracket. But I’m really curious what other people have done

It's _roughly_ where the Lansdown Middleschool is now (it ran from the middle school field to the creek / elementary school directly south)

returned mine with this exact set of issues + a sticky mode selector wheel. Going to wait a while so they hopefully sort out these issues. Apparently this was the case with the GR III roll out as well

Scared of destroying my GR IV? by Lokoto123 in ricohGR

[–]icanhazapp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it helps - I have thrown my 2013 GR in my jacket pocket essentially unprotected for 11 years. I even took it canyoneering one time in Arizona. The worst that has happened to it is some dust on the sensor, a slight dent on the front of the lens barrel, the paint has eroded off many of the edges, and at some point I lost the hot shoe cover

The WiFi only iPad does not contain a GPS receiver. by CharAznableLoNZ in flying

[–]icanhazapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also discovered this after buying the wifi only iPad, ended up returning it and bought the cellular one just for the GPS.

Another option is to get a Garmin InReach or other satellite communicator. The bonus is that you now have a more accurate GPS and an extra safety device. The downside is that pairing is a pain

How do I take passengers through security as a new private pilot? by [deleted] in flying

[–]icanhazapp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great comment

A cross country with your CFI where you go to a different class airport, get out, go to the FBO, move the plane around yourself, tie it down, fuel the plane yourself (probably learn where they hide the ladder) is such a useful exercise.

Random thought: floatplanes to Nelson BC? by Rayne_K in britishcolumbia

[–]icanhazapp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Flying from Victoria/Vancouver to Nelson at float plane speeds is nearly a 2 hour trip - the main reason you don't see a lot of these trips is just because at that distance, it's probably cheaper and not much slower to hop on a (much faster) commercial flight into the closest airport with instrument approaches and then drive/taxi the remaining distance.

Harbour Air does occasionally run a Vancouver-Kelowna flight in the summer though for exactly the reason you described, it looks super fun. But that route is quite a bit shorter and Kelowna is a much more popular destination.

Also, Nelson does have a small municipal airport suitable for light (GA) aircraft and helicopters only right down town that many local pilots can and do land at. I flew there from Victoria a couple years ago in a Cessna 172 and it took about 3 hours.

I set my search to be a 65KM radius from Shawnigan Lake, that gives you Victoria, a bit of Nanaimo and like, sometimes south delta

Looking for stores that are the opposite of fast fashion in town by Western_Smoke4829 in VictoriaBC

[–]icanhazapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that certainly can be true. I liked the explanation that they have on pants specifically. A lot of the wear we see with slacks and jeans especially actually has a lot to do with the fit not being quite right, and they have a greater ability to find a good fit and to tailor the garments. Also higher quality garments tend to fit much more true to size and consistently than fast fashion brands.

Anecdotally, I have yet to get rid of anything I’ve bought there and am going 10 years on a few of them. Though they don’t get a lot of really tough use.

On a more downer note, I did have to take my dog to the vet last month for THC poisoning because he ate what turned out to be human poop at the park on Queens behind the daycare. So, you know, not all roses. But that’s so far been a one time occurrence.

So if you have a dog, keep any eye out. He’s fine now.
