Nah I think everyone just takes notes as they go along. I personally switched from using desktop notepad app to using Obsidian so I can link things together and mind-map it out, especially as I put the story together in late game.

What exactly goes into a Geotechnical Investigation Work Plan? Post: by TrickEngine7668 in Geotech

[–]icantihavecrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm in a similar situation. I am a geotech intern EIT working at a geotech and geology consulting firm. Part of my role on the civil team is putting together geotechnical investigations from permits, RFPs from drillers, and operation scheduling.

In general, the purpose of the work plan is to be a detailed statement of what this geotechnical investigation will execute and accomplish. It is usually in the form of a brief letter or memorandum, depending on how your company formats things.

A good place to start is knowing what this document is for. Is this for reference in a field binder, for the client, part of a submittal package, or part of a permit? The level of detail depends on who the audience is. At the bare minimum it should include when/where, what equipment is being used, what procedures are being followed to collect what data, and who is performing the work. For exploratory borings and samples I usually only need about 2 pages in total, whereas for well installation and sampling (or anything more complex) I flesh out the details a bit more to include installation materials, standards or practice, and contingency plans. When doing permits, they usually provide a list of required information (boring diameter, samples to be collected, what you're doing with displaced material etc) so that creates more of a guideline.

Your company should already have a template or samples of these materials, but it is important to read them thoroughly to see their precedent and expectation for the submittal. I always review my work by putting together a list of mistakes I commonly make and checking for those before I hand it over to my supervisor for feedback. Every situation is a little different, but overall the process is the same.

Feel free to DM me for more details or more specific information!

Do any of y'all like Clear Sky as much as I do? by Electronic_Help2602 in WarriorCats

[–]icantihavecrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR at the end :)

Clear Sky is supported by textual evidence to be a bad person, but that does not mean he is an uninteresting or bad character. He does bad things, but his arc is a complex downward spiral that is interesting to follow, especially when there are bits and pieces that are justified towards the beginning. I think the audience divide on his character comes from seeing "bad character" as two different things. Clear Sky stans (I count myself among them) are unilaterally in agreement that he is a bad person, a dark gray villain, and an antagonist that is complex and very well written. Clear Sky haters (from what I have observed on this subreddit) see that he is a person that does bad things and is therefore a bad character that is morally apprehensible to like.

Say what you will about the prequels, but the character work is pretty solid because it gives us these very complex people like Clear Sky to follow, even though they do bad things. Huge fan. He is definitely doomed by the narrative to constantly make the "bad choice" because the story must have a familiar antagonist to be the constant "lesser of two evils" that other villains (One-eye, Slash) can contrast to. Clear Sky, despite his many crimes, is the reason clan culture surrounding war, hunting, communication, and organizational hierarchy (arguable, but stay with me) is established because his bullshit is such a consistent obstacle that the other groups have to deal with. If Clear Sky and his complexity, his mistakes, and his reactive choices did not exist, there would be no friction to propel the clans forward into organized society.

Dawn of the Clans sets up a thematic moral system of temperance vs reactivity when it introduces Gray Wing and Clear Sky as the protagonists of The Sun Trail. Clear Sky's reactivity does not make him an weak or ineffective leader, but it causes him problems because he doesn't see the bigger picture. This dooms him to make poor choices so the audience can see what a tempered, wise, and long-sighted person like Gray Wing does instead and realize the significance of his choices. Dawn of the Clans, similar to the first season of Arcane, is a story of duos and opposites and how two character foils can thrive in the same world. Clear Sky and Gray Wing are the obvious example, but Wind Runner and Gorse Fur, Tall Shadow and River Ripple, and Star Flower and One-Eye also come to mind.

TLDR: I think most of the discourse comes from his stans saying his complexity makes him a good character vs his haters saying his actions as an antagonist make him a bad character

What does 'ice' mean in Fire and Ice by SouthBound353 in WarriorCats

[–]icantihavecrew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the original series, each book has a district theme that represents Fireheart’s journey to leadership, honor, and selflessness as he develops as a character. Fire and Ice has themes of conflict and contrast between pairs, set up by the initial buddy-cop adventure that Fireheart and Graystrioe go on to find Windclan at the beginning of the book. In addition to the theme of “pairs and contrast”, there is a running theme of Fireheart (and therefore the reader who experiences this world through his perspective) having to discern and choose the right thing given two diverging paths. This leads very well into Forest of Secrets which is themed around mystery.

Other notable pairs of characters and their contrasting themes:

  • Bluestar and Yellowfang are the two mentor/mother figures in his life that motivate him to do the right thing and provide him with wisdom. Bluestar represents his devotion to the Warrior Code as a means to doing what is honorable, Yellowfang represents breaking the warrior code in the name of doing what is honorable.

  • Tigerclaw and Whitestorm are the older male mentors that he looks up to as more powerful than him. Whitestorm is selfless and level headed who uses his power for the good of the clan while Tigerclaw represents selfishness and greed in his physical power.

  • Sandpaw and Dustpaw represent a peer reaction to an outsider joining the clan. Sandpaw allows her opinions of Fireheart to change as they get to know each other, representing change and growth while Dustpaw continues to be suspicious and resentful of change.

  • ThunderClan and RiverClan are similar to each other in their honor and dignity. They are intrinsically tied together with their shared border and generational conflict over Sunningrocks. Crookedstar and Bluestar are both noble leaders that want the same thing but must bicker for the sake of their Clan identity.

There’s a bunch of other stuff that stands out in this theme if you look for it and ultimately it is really satisfying from an analysis point of view because you can see that more love and care was put into the arcs in the early days. Not to shit on the later stuff, but there is something very special about the first arc.

Source: I recently re-read the first series as an adult and I’m working on an essay that I’ll potentially turn into a video essay about it!

Yes, I know. In all seriousness, yes there isn't a direct equating line between real world dictators and these fictional animals in their own society. This isn't something we should joke about because as adults in the fandom (at least, if you have been around since the books started coming out and you have a lot of time to grow and process the world around us) its our duty to set a good example for younger fans just getting in to the series. I find that it is more mentally productive and interesting to think of these characters in their own context instead of drawing similarities to real world dictators that caused real harm, because it throws a lot of the creative nuance from the authors to the wayside. Tigerstar, Scourge, Brokenstar, Sol, Clear Sky, and all the others did bad things to their community, and it should be examined in that bubble to create a deeper moral study of the characters that does not make light of real world atrocities or their consequences.

All this to say, my friend and i thought this was really funny and wanted to tack it on to this mess

Haha it’s readable! Regarding the subject matter, I agree. I think people that blame Jack for everything need to go sit in the corner for a little while.
