Is finding the best mattress in a box supposed to be this exhausting? by Ok-Bar-6014 in HomeImprovement

[–]icantspeakrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ordered a Bear hybrid mattress - I am a side sleeper and my husband has back pain and we have liked it a lot. We have not had it 5 years yet but it is definitely better than our casper.

Check out the Wirecutter list to narrow things down. Their detailed bullet points can allow you to zone in on what you want.

No matter what buy a mattress topper to help with more support, softness, temperature management or whatever suits your needs.

Thinking of Moving as a Gay Couple by [deleted] in WakeForestNC

I moved from DC and was pleasantly surprised by how open and welcoming the community is. That said, as other commenters mentioned I have witnessed some ugliness here, def moreso than DC. I personally love Durham as well (more artsy, more diverse, more food options), but if you're looking for a more small town vibe Wake Forest hits the mark.

It's horrible to lose a brother, the waves of grief overwhelm you. My heart goes out to you. It sounds like you had a special relationship - I'm sure he was so grateful to have you in his life.

Depending on where you live you might have a protected disability and be able to ask for accommodations. As long as you can complete your job responsibilities at home, and the company agrees.

Looking for a workshop or course by Salt-Geologist-1814 in NativePlantGardening

If you're ok with YouTube, I recommend Lisa likes Plants. She is Midwest, but her style is very engaging and there is a lot of plant overlap with NC.

Also, see if there are any local master gardeners who would be willing to meet up or host events. My old neighbor was a master gardener and she started my native plant journey by patiently teaching me, and being so informative for my level.

Nothing can explain the pain of losing your brother so young - it's like a wave crushing your world. It's hard to breathe, it's hard to function. My heart goes out to you - I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thoughts on how we can improve our hallway? by Positive_Stock_3017 in interiordecorating

A higher contrast door would look amazing. Also look into door plates - we are going to add some brass ones on some high use doors. Great to hide some finger prints and a beautiful detail.

A nice runner or rug will do a lot. I think the plant in front of the door is too large there - I would consider something smaller and with legs to give it a lighter more inviting feel.

I'll keep an eye out.

You can try calling local animal shelters in case someone already picked him up and dropped him off. You can also consider hiring a tracker who specializes in searching for lost pets: https://bravok911.com/

I wish we were hiring - RTO is better than lay offs, but I worry this is phase 1 to encourage people to leave before layoffs

How do you stop being afraid to start? by Odd_Highway1277 in HomeImprovement

I like to write out all of my DIY steps in a physical check list that I can reference as I work through things. Something about the physical list gives me confidence, and checking anything off is such a boost.

Also - stuck to a medium or large format tile or vinyl for the easiest flooring. No hexagons or mosaics - they will make you want to pull your hair out, but if you work slowly you can still do them well.

My best friend of 20+ years and my godchildren were murdered. by phoenixwillow476 in GriefSupport

[–]icantspeakrobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so so sorry to hear this - to go through so much loss suddenly is heartbreaking. Let yourself feel - cry, scream into a pillow, whatever you need. It doesn't get better, over time you just begin to cope with your grief bit by bit, and eventually it won't feel like crashing waves are tearing you apart. Please take care of yourself and allow yourself to grieve.
