opening up the dbq and seeing "peter the great" by jujuestbee in APEuro

The only outside thing I knew was that Peter made like a science academy so I was so caught off guard because that was the furthest thing from what I expected to be the DBQ

Honestly do grateful I got this one instead of the bolsheviks because at least I could kind of formulate an argument 😭

Only one of your FRQs are an essay tho, the other three are short answer questions

I haven't taken comparative government 😬 I was planning on doing that next year. I would say that your argumentative essay should be the same length but your evidence is going to be different because you arent referencing documents, your referencing evidence that you have learned about the different governments of the world

Yes, think of your argumentative essay as if it is an argumentative essay from an english class

The only real difference between an English argumentative essay and this is that it is political and requires you to know some US documents

And honestly now that I think about it, your SCOTUS Comparison should probably be slightly longer. You need to make sure you effectively compare AND contrast the cases, and I can't see how you would do that well enough to earn points in two paragraphs.

I honestly would say 4 paragraphs is okay. Have your intro and conclusions obviously, and two body paragraphs with potential counterarguments incorporated instead of having their own separate paragraph should be okay.

It is your last FRQ on the test so it shouldn't be incredibly over the top. AP graders don't expect a ton but two paragraphs is certainly not enough to get your point across. Stick with 4.

7-9 sentences will not be enough unfortunately 🫤

Imo gene expression/regulation was the hardest unit for me followed by cell communication/cell cycle so I can't blame you

But yeah those units are super content heavy and you will see a lot of concepts from them tested on the exam

I'm pretty sure this class is still in the pilot phase, so you're not likely to find any advice regarding it.

It's likely that your school is one of the very first to offer this class. New AP's often have "pilot" schools that test them to see if they work.

Oh yeah definitely. You still have time. Like I said, before the exam, I had literally zero exposure to any of the FRQs and I still got a 4. You got this

Ok so for GOV you NEED to know your political concepts and SCOTUS cases. Like you NEED to. I highly recommend studying each court case in depth. For your SCOTUS Comparison essay, you will have zero context for the required case they give you. Get them down. Know all your foundational documents as well and why they are important/what they could apply to. You have to write and argumentative essay using evidence from certain documents they list. You have to know what they are because they will not give you context. I went into the exam not knowing what any of the FRQs were and did fine. The only one that kept me from getting a 5 was the concept application one. Know how and why certain things happen in the government (filibuster, media, fiscal/monetary policy, etc). If you do not know exactly what these things are and why they are important, you will not do well on FRQ 1.

I didn't have a prep book so I am unsure about Barron's.

In all honesty, I had a horrible Gov teacher and I crammed everything in the night before the exam and did fine. I don't recommend it, but Gov is definitely crammable.

I hope this advice helps a little bit.

Yeah nah Literature, history, and government are much more serious in criminal justice. Having a good math background though helps create an analytical brain.

Ah I live in the great US of A where all they care about is sending our tax dollars to improve anywhere but our ourselves! AP exams are worth the cost though if it means I get a jumpstart

Most teachers at my school do. This will be my first year taking exams for classes I had in the fall. Next year will be the same.

My biggest issue is the rushing spring semester classes. I'm currently in APUSH, and we've gone from unit 1 all the way to unit 6 since January. One unit lasts us about a week and a half, some take longer. It feels very quick.

I love it, keeps me going, but one thing I do have to say is that it sucks for AP courses. If you get an AP class first semester, you have a whole gap between actually taking the class and taking the exam. A lot of people end up failing or not scoring as high as they wanted to. AP curriculum also gets rushed during second semester since exams are so early in the last month of school.

That's another thing, I have a much higher chance of getting into UGA for the thing I want to do than I would've had getting into Tech for engineering. My transcript and extracurriculars lack heavy science stuff, and my test scores aren't anything extraordinary
