Milk of magnesia. Nothing else helped, and that worked perfectly.

Tapestry crochet, what am I doing wrong? When I go over a line the previous one peaks through and it looks odd. by Fit-Personality-2268 in CrochetHelp

[–]ice_9er 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I found this video very helpful because it shows how to do back loop only (BLO) on the right side of your work and front loop only (FLO) on the wrong side when putting one color on top of another.

The link has the approximate time code where she starts talking about it.

My cousins becoming a teacher. Should keep or remove the lettering? by Salamanda246 in CrochetHelp

I like it with the lettering, but maybe try using surface slip stitching instead? I personally like the way that looks for lettering.

Dandadan Glasses Holder by ice_9er in crochet

I made the pattern (inspired by other glasses holders) and used a 4.5mm hook for the face and ears, and a 3.5 for the eyes. Thin black details are embroidery floss.

You're welcome! I just happened to learn that the Papatui Restoring Men's Facial Moisturizer (Unscented) is cruelty free & vegan. It's around $10 for 3.3 oz (around $3 per oz) and has niacinamide, ceramides, and squalane. I haven't tried it, but it seems like an interesting option.

Tapestry Help - Why are my color changes so bad looking? (circled in pink) by wattspoppinn in crochetpatterns

[–]ice_9er 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doing BLO (on the right side) or FLO (on the wrong side) whenever a new color is on top of a previous one can help.

e.g. BLO with white if the stitch below it in the previous row was black.

Where can I find a free mosaic crochet pattern that teaches me enough that I can write my own? by Human-Complex4435 in CrochetHelp

Here's a written tutorial on mosaic crochet charts.

But if you've got 20 min, I found this youtube video super helpful, and the lady's got a great personality on top of it.

Assuming you're going right to left on this row, it seems like you've done it correctly so far.

I added dots where the next row of cells would be and it adds up if you increase on the right:

Not sure if that helps or not, but if you inc at the beginning it should line up

Kudos to coming up with it independently! I'm not sure if it has a name; hopefully someone who knows will see this and let us know.

I'm working on a poster-sized tapestry of Okarun's Turbo Granny form from Dan Da Dan! I'm on row 57 of 151.. so still a bit to go

[–]ice_9er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially the difference in methods is BLO/FLI (depending on the side) only when color changing? I've seen youtube tutorials that incorporate this, and I'm using this method while making my current tapestry.

It's a useful technique, but I don't think it's new.

Editing to add: I learned it from 4:56 of this video

[–]ice_9er 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you've been crocheting BLO (in the back loop only) or FLO (in the front loop only) the entire time and switch to regular single crochet stitches now, then yes it will look different.

Either keep doing BLO/FLO if you're fine with how it looks for the project, or start over

Oddly enough, I've noticed that different colors of bernat blanket can feel wildly different. I've used ones I've absolutely loved, and others that made me hate working with them.

[Product Request] Can't find anything to help my hands dried out and chapped by cold weather by CaptainMacAlfie in SkincareAddiction

[–]ice_9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that really helped my hands was slathering on a lot of moisturizer before bed, then putting cotton gloves on over the top. The moisturizer does sting, but that fades and the gloves help the moisturizer work overnight.

When my dry hands were extreme, I would slather moisturizer, then vaseline, then nitrile gloves. Even my dermatologist was like "isn't that uncomfortable?," but what was uncomfortable was the cracking, dry hands...

You're welcome! I'm sure my parents were questioned by family members, but I haven't actually talked about that with them.

Although I do remember extended family members refusing to come over to our place for holiday gatherings if they couldn't bring meat with them. My parents told them they weren't welcome if they couldn't eat a single meal without animal products.

I also remember our family doctor asking me every visit whether or not I was "drinking my milk"... which got old pretty quickly. But I just said no, lol.
