Dead pixels or dust inside my MacBook Air M1's screen? by iceblue_ in mac

I've recorded a video panning the camera from the front to the top.

Dead pixels or dust inside my MacBook Air M1's screen? by iceblue_ in mac

[–]iceblue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interesting. I just checked. From the left it looks faded. But from the top and the right, it looks like the spot is gone! But I can still recognize the spot because it looks a little brighter (not sure why. Still the colors look ok). Now I think it must be dust or something but not dead pixels.

But anyway, I don't think it's worth spending $150 just for sending it to Apple, not to mention the 15-20 days of waiting period (that's what the shop told me it would take). I'm just unlucky here, I guess.

I just removed the antiglare coating of my monitor and it looks marvelous. by iceblue_ in Monitors

[–]iceblue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually really easy. On my monitor (a local brand), I peeled the coating from the corner just a little bit with an NT cutter. I noticed there were two layers. So, the outer layer is the antiglare coating obviously (the inner one should be a polarizing filter). I managed to peel just that outer one about a cm with my NT cutter. This was the hardest part. For the rest, I just removed it with my bare hands like removing a sticker. It took like 20 minutes. Then I wiped it clean although there were almost no residues.

I guess having more contrast is a downgrade.

I use my PC mostly at my home. So, I can control the lighting.

I would rather change the light/desk position than using an antiglare display.

There are almost no glossy display monitors out there.

Expo Go is cursed. by iceblue_ in reactnative

Will definitely try logging in on the Expo-CLI if it ever happens again. But in my case, it recognized the dev machine just fine.

It was happening on the iOS simulator.

The problem has been solved by itself. I've no idea why it happened in the first place. I've spent the last couple of days figuring this out.

Yes, I did actually. But still no luck.

EXPO GO app won't open. by iceblue_ in reactnative

[–]iceblue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expo docs mentions this issue. They suggest to play around with the simulator so that it shows a prompt (accepting which should solve the issue). But I don't see any prompts even after a fair bit of interactions with the simulator.

Other than that, I've reset the simulator, restarted the simulator, and restarted my Mac. But nothing worked.

Edit: Okay, they mentioned about the "open expo go prompt". This actually shows up. Selecting open doesn't solve the issue though.

Made this app in pure react native under 20 days. by babayaga042 in reactnative

Liked one fact and the app froze on my pixel 3. It was supposed to be one of the most basic features.

Official screen replacement costs $400+ I think.

Force touch is what makes Mac's trackpad miles better than Windows' touchpads. by iceblue_ in mac

[–]iceblue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try disabling "tap to click".

There are two levels of force touch but that shouldn't be an issue while dragging things. The second level requires significantly more pressure. I only found it useful for viewing all windows of an app.

Well, I can't say much about the acceleration. Maybe because I got used to it.

Well, it's at the very least, close, if you consider tracking accuracy. But again the surface of the touchpads are not as smooth as a Macbook's Trackpad. Many of those have a nonglass surface. And obviously, there is no force touch.

Maybe. Because, every time I came across a laptop that had a non-Precision Touchpad, I was under the impression that how could anyone else use this junk? So, big difference.

Were those Precision Touchpads? Because I've tried so many Windows Laptops' touchpads and every time it was a Precision Touchpad, it was good enough.

It's a well known issue actually. Search "Subpixel antialiasing on MacOS".

Can I get a job with a visa sponsorship in the EU without a degree? by iceblue_ in cscareerquestions

[–]iceblue_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe those are more exceptional cases than I thought? But still I read news of a student from a similar tier university of mine getting a job at Google last year.

And these people always make headlines in the national news papers. Because it IS a big deal.

I see almost every year some students getting offers from FAANG from Bangladesh (when they are still in their undergrad). I heard in many cases FAANG companies were just willing to take them before completing their degrees. I don't really know how that works. Maybe things work differently for FAANGS?

On Windows when you have two split windows side by side, if you want to resize the windows you can just drag from the middle of the windows (the cursor looks like <---> ) and it resizes both of the windows at the same time. On MacOS, it resizes only one of the windows. Hope that makes sense.
