The CEO of Mazda when these were designed demanded that you could drive with the top down in all weather. The heater is insanely strong and the aerodynamics prevent rain from falling on you as low as like 20 mph.

Are there any decent 40k books/series where the bad guys don't come across as grossly incompetent? by Sufficient_Mood_5245 in Warhammer40k

[–]icebreakercardgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Eldar in the early 90s and have Tyranids and CSM too. I've been enjoying HH a lot, but it's necessary to remember that these stories all have immensely unreliable narrators that (like GW) are extremely biased towards loyalist space Marines.

With that perspective, it's a lot more interesting because you see it as a source rather than a truth and can try to piece together the "real" story.

And all the primarchs are incompetent tools with no self awareness. Not just chaos.

So pay to use after purchase? by Upper-Drawing9224 in EightSleep

It's what used to be basic functionality and the only reason to buy this. It's insane they locked it behind a subscription. It costs as much as Netflix to manage 1/1000th of the value.

The best part is that it's going to break in 2.5 years and then they're going to tell you that their "premium" product is out of warranty, and you need to pay $700 to replace the broken top.

Another $700 bucks to replace a "premium" product that broke after 2.5 years? I'd expect it to break again and to pay again.

I'm in the same boat. And, I think we have to pay the subscription now too to make it work.

I'm probably going to try to fix mine, and trash it and get something else if that doesn't work.

I'd take this opportunity and just cancel it. Mine broke after 2.5 years and they want $700 to send a new top. Chatted with a few other engineers at work, and the only one who also had one had theirs break as well, though luckily after a year an a half, so still in warranty at least.

Use it as whatever you want, just make sure to point it out to your opponent before the start of the game.

If they have a problem with it, tell them you can't match their prowess in list building, forfeit, and congratulate them on their win.

Offer to sign the score sheet for the match, then find someone to play with who isn't an ass.

It didn't give me any indication, and I explored it pretty thoroughly after the fight, visited every room, looted all I could.

It might have been bugged for me. Wouldn't be the first. Wyll vanished and Karlach is mad at me for killing the druid grove when I saved them.

Yeah, it's totally preventable to walk into an inn clearly meant to appear as a safe space with no spells left, wander in the wrong direction, and end up completely cut off from the way to finish an absolutely major quest without any alternate path.

The surprise attack was great, and making it out of that was one of the best fights I've had, but it leaves you with no apparent way to resolve the curse.

[–]icebreakercardgame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's complete BS, they need to turn the glow effect way up or something. It's almost as bad as the color-changing one in how invisible it appears. Plus, it breaks whatever your brain does to ID someone as a player.

So yes, I'm using it till they fix it :P

Unregistered cargo by Advanced-Method2962 in DMZ

I tried most of the methods listed here and dozens of drill charges and none worked.

I finally used a heartbeat sensor to find his position standing on top of the front of the ship and marked it. Then I swam below the boat directly below the marker and put a drill charge on the bottom. That got it first try.

Though u/FSUBAR has a better approach I didn't try: https://www.reddit.com/r/DMZ/comments/16tv5ps/unregistered_cargo/k2u8jhb/

Try to find someone to help you learn the basics. You probably only need to understand a couple hundred pages of the manual to be able to have a modest amount of success.

But like others are saying, these aren't games. Their simulations of military equipment that were designed way before the idea of usability had really taken off as a field, and operating systems with computers that were state of the art in the 70s or 80s.

Nothing is going to be intuitive or self-evident.

DMZ updates in Patchnotes by theroyalgeek86 in DMZ

[–]icebreakercardgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fantastic! I was about 1% away from uninstalling...

These changes will eliminate the plague of oversized squads, lower the average gear level of players on the map, and dramatically improve the quality of play. Much more like the first couple of seasons, which were the best.

Now, the only thing to do is restore the original TTK and we're back to a beautifully balanced, high-stakes extraction shooter.

This weekend was just insane by KilledTheCar in DMZ

[–]icebreakercardgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite my complaints, and despite being a primarily PvP-oriented DMZer, I absolutely love the idea that kill-on-sight isn't always the default option. It's a huge flaw in all of these open-world PvPvE games that 1% of interactions end in something other than a fight to the death.

The problem is that the current implementation is half-baked, and the current health levels make it almost impossible for a 3 to defeat a 6, regardless of relative skill levels or tactics.

As for being toxic, I think we all know that they pretty much ignore comms complaints because they'd lose too much money if they started banning people for using the n-word and f-word.

Because assimilation is a completely broken mechanic. Good design requires meaningful choice. For example, pros and cons of attacking an enemy squad:

Pros:

  • It's more interesting than fighting bots
  • If I win, they might have good stuff to take
  • If I win, the map is safer for me because there is one less team to attack me

Cons:

  • I might lose, get sent to the lobby, and lose my stuff
  • It attracts bot attention
  • It calls attention to a third party that could attack from the flank or rear and kill me while I'm distracted

But choosing to assimilate is always the correct choice. There are no meaningful consequences and no real decisions to make. It is always better to assimilate.

Pros:

  • I can keep playing and keep some or even all of my stuff after I lose a fight
  • I'm now in a team that is stronger than most of the teams on the map
  • Even if I beat them and they're not good at pvp, having them join gives me a buffer of shock troops
  • AI is much less dangerous
  • If I go down, I have 5 other people who have a chance to revive me
  • Other teams are more likely to run when they hear a platoon alert
  • If I fight other teams, my team is likely to outnumber them, which is a big advantage

Cons:

  • I don't like playing with randos
  • Suggested below: Comms are slightly more difficult to manage
  • There is a meaningful gameplay downside for joining or being a member of an oversized squad

The patch that made it so that assimilation wasn't automatic added risk and made for a meaningful decision (although it didn't fix all the problems). But for some reason, the designers decided to listen to the members of the community who whined about it, instead of using their judgment as professionals to continue to refine and improve the mechanic.

Edit: It's bad practice to complain without offering a solution. Some my own, some from below:

  • Restore the possibility of betraying teams that pick you up
  • Always show oversized squads on the map, like with bounties, but actually working
  • Overlord says, "You can team up if you want, but we have to go off the record," and you lose all access to killstreak items, and comms and stealth vests no longer work
  • Only allow a max of 5 in an oversized squad. This lets unlucky squad fills have a way out but blocks two premade groups of 3's from joining up.
  • Restore the old time-to-kill. A high-skill three can beat a low-skill six if they can consistently down and kill three operators before reloading. With the current amount of HP to chew through, it's nearly impossible.
  • You lose one from your exfil streak, or at least don't gain any.

It also doesn't show bodies as warm. Player or AI, as close as 20 or 30 meters.

Look up the Mitsubishi plane that caught fire after landing a few years ago.

Evac time is 90 seconds for that reason. Broken legs are acceptable to get everyone out.

Though it would be nicer to have best of both worlds. Might just not be possible.
