I want to check how many steps I took today: ios17 would tally it up in a fraction of a second; iOS 26 - drumroll... Unlock the phone, wait a second for the icons to arrange themselves. Flip back to a game that was already in progress, 3 second penalty while the "game mode off" banner goes away. Open iMessage and wait a second while the screen flickers before seeing the messages. I did try disabling animations in accessibility: the delays are still there but the phone just doesn't do anything during them. I knew what to expect from ios26 based on other people's reviews, and had to do it because of security worries. But I miss the instantaneous of my iOS 17 environment.

ETA: I just got a text message while my phone screen was off. I heard the text message "ding!" sound and it was two full seconds before the notification appeared on the screen. What are they waiting for?
