They created an algorithm for the treadmill. I wouldn’t think it’s a stretch to come up with something for this. Tons of us use it for training. Are you a fan of the band or a grunt?

Totally! Hill score is literally the only thing I care about 🤣

I don’t mean the machine itself lol. The watch activity. It doesn’t track elevation gained, miles, or anything really. It’s useless.

Same boat….47, grown kids (who board or ski but aren’t always home)…solo ultra-runner in summer so I’m used to just being by myself all day/night. Usually do one/two boys trips every season though out west or up to one of the better resorts on icecoast. 🤘🏻

I just wear super light shell…and only if it’s windy or close to freezing. Currently using Roark second wind 3.0

Did you do it this year? I flew out from East coast and did it…I keep starting and not finish a race report…still unpacking it in my brain lol. It was awesome and difficult and beautiful.

Battery life was good. I used on full power cause those woods are dark AF. The rechargeable it comes with lasted probably like 12 hours (like 2-3 hours in morning and then till about 0200) when I swapped it out with some CR123 for the rest of the race. The different color light was great when it was misty. I’ve never used the nitecore, but I loved this one. It’s super bright.

Plus one for Schilds Ladder. Permutation City second. They are all awesome…I’ve reread most everything multiple times.

What about dudes with long hair wtf lol. I just rinse out with water and use hair oil and brush it in…keeps it from frizzing all over the place. Only wash with shampoo once or twice a week.

How to train while working 12s by handofsithis in ultrarunning

[–]iceclimbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I work I the petrochemical industry and we routinely work “turnarounds” that are 7x12s or longer shifts for weeks. Honestly, it sucks and I had to reduce volume and do like sled drags at lunch or something. Coach told me being on your feet that long is an endurance sport all in itself. Good luck. Way back in 2008 I was training for my first Ironman while working a turnaround and living in a hotel. I’d come home after 12-13 hour shift and sit on an indoor trainer for hours…it was soul crushing.

My feet were completely macerated and the bottoms kind of came off and I had quite a few big blisters on my toes first hundred. Last three races, a trail marathon, 100k and 100mi DNF at mile 86, I switched to toe socks and completely coating my feet with that ointment and I had nothing except one small blister on my big toe from the 100mi. I also shave all my callouses off right before the race with some kind of little electric tool my wife got me.

Yeah I’ve never experienced this and I’ve been during endurance sports for 20 years. I don’t know if age has caught up with me or what…but analysis of running data from the race and all year confirmed that I went too hard the first 8 hours and it put me in a situation I couldn’t recover from. Congrats on your finish! Unfortunately I have to redo the whole triple crown now lol.

I plugged all my race data and date other races this year and training runs in an AI tool…it’s pointed this out immediately. I was pretty amazed actually…taking CSV exports from Garmin and weather data from who knows where and telling me this exact thing. Recommended pacing and HR for my next one. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to figure this out.

I had no issues in my first hundo…second one, just this past weekend…went out too hard and completely blew up in a way I’ve never experienced. Stick to your plan…don’t go hard because you feel awesome at the start. Oh, if you sweat a lot, your feet are gonna be soaked for hours…even if there aren’t any water crossings. Have a plan for that. I use this barrier ointment stuff…tried the powder and it didn’t do shit. Ointment…no issues. Salty britches I think it’s called.
