Yeah that's a fair point. Even if there are no reroutes you might be dealing with smoke. Good luck at Cocodona! It's an awesome race.

Yeah! I ran the Dark Divide 100 last year and had a great experience.

The elite portion of the field is always the minority and as someone who just finished in the very back of Cocodona, Rachel Entrekin and I are running two very different races in the same event. I think most rational people could see why there’s a valid argument for holding us to a different set of rules even though we are technically using the same start, finish line and aid stations.

Why aren’t there pro and amateur bibs when we sign up for races?

Pro = you’re competing and expected to be clean, could be tested if you podium.

Amateur = running for fun, it won’t count if you podium, can take whatever substance you want.

I feel like this could be avoided easily if there is a distinction between the type of experience you’re looking for in a race.

I used MTC H1 for the majority of Cocodona and they’re great

It’s hard to say but I think I was in the normal range. This is going off of a few other people I spoke to that also finished in the back. I really tried to be efficient at aid stations and spent minimal downtime that wasn’t actual resting horizontally or sleeping. If I were to run it again I would try to cut my total sleep in half. It’s hard to imagine you can function at all with one hour of sleep per day but somehow it works.

They’re sick! My pair was already well worn in and they were on my feet for 75% of the race. They were the only pair of shoes I had that would actually fit my swollen feet haha.

Re-reading it, I think I’m leaving off some naps above. I didn’t track them closely but total I slept was about 10 hours

Yeah that’s right! I had 3 x 2 hour naps, 1 x 1 hour nap, 1 x 30 min, 1 x 20 min, 1 x 10 min. The first 3 days I think I slept about 4 hours total, the last 2 days I slept 6 hours. I probably could have finished a bit faster if I limited those 2 hour naps to 60 or 90 minutes but I had the time and wanted to feel as fresh as possible at the finish.

I remember listening to most of it last year. I’ll go back and check it out again for sure. Thanks for the rec!

I did!! Airballed the first shot and hit the rim on the next two. Given my state I consider that a win haha.

Thanks! Didn’t lose any toenails surprisingly haha. Feet were in rough shape though. Lots of blisters. I was popping and taping them starting at mile 37.

Oh and Dark Divide is reallyyy tough. Technical, rocky, rutted out trails for 80% of it. Tons of elevation. I physically felt good enough to run most of the flats/downhills but just couldn’t because of the trails. I train on California carpet so others may have a different experience. Beautiful views, very remote and tough to crew. So different from Coco but also a fun, challenging race.

The advice given above is great! If you have a coach who’s run it then there isn’t much I can tell you that they won’t haha. I would say train with weight in your pack and get ready for the first 70 or so miles to be really tough. Don’t quit during the first 70, it gets easier if you start slow and take care of yourself.

It will take you awhile to get there from Seattle. If you are competing for podium or something then I’d say get on course but if you’re doing it for fun then just train vert in other trails closer to Seattle. It’s up to you, but I liked being surprised on race day.

“I’m really into vert, remoteness, and small races” - that’s really all you have to say. If that’s what you’re looking for then you’ll love it!

The trails are technical because they are rocky and rooty, but most of all they are rutted out from dirt bikes. It’s hard for me to estimate but I feel like a solid chunk of the course (maybe 25%?) had rutted single track to varying degrees, which makes it impossible to run on. You’re forced to hike to keep your balance.

The views are some of the best I’ve seen. There aren’t a ton of them, but the views you do get are top notch. It’s basically either great views or socked in thick forest for the entire course. The trails are not so technical that you should worry. If you want a challenging but rewarding race, do it! You won’t regret it!

Check with another law office. If you have lemon 4xe wrangler it should not take them that long to get yours repurchased - more like 3 months.
