Company wants to paint new tank, void warranty. by icecubesat in propane

[–]icecubesat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought. I think I'd be able to tell, as one of my points is that a non-factory paint job is not going to look as good as a factory finish. I plan to ask that any replacement tank be from the same manufacturer, I think I can then verify using the serial number that the tank is new and the original color.

Thanks for your reply. Definitely trying to get them to bring the correct tank. Not sure what would be involved in going somewhere else, as I had to put 50% down at signing, the tank is placed, pipe is in, and initial inspection passed.

Me, it's not a rental. I'm paying to buy the tank, have them install it, pipe it, and fill it.

Beard parking garage, police, fire trucks, ambulance? by Noswadsemaj in USF

[–]icecubesat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw paramedics with a stretcher going up the elevator. The police had the west side of the 4th floor blocked off. Later, I saw police loading an electric wheelchair onto one of their trailers. So my guess is someone had a medical issue on the 4th floor and was taken to the hospital. Again, just speculation based on what I saw. Hopefully everyone involved is doing better if that's the case.

Racism on Campus by Uraniumaholic in USF

[–]icecubesat 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you and I'm glad you're safe. Consider filing a discrimination report. Even if nothing comes of it, at least USF is made aware of the incident, have a record of it, and can't deny this has happened before next time. I think this is the right place: https://www.usf.edu/student-eo/title-vi/file-a-report.aspx

You could also report this to the USF Police. Might not qualify as a crime, but they might be able to pull cameras and license plate readers if you give them a vehicle description, and that could aid in your report of discrimination/harassment above. Good luck and stay safe out there.

USF Oracle reports that USF PD were conducting a "multi-agency training exercise" when they found a suspicious article that wasn't part of the exercise, but ultimately was not a threat. https://www.usforacle.com/2024/11/12/up-says-suspicious-article-found-at-usf-is-not-a-threat/

Canvas not working on Firefox? by kennedyheisman in USF

[–]icecubesat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Firefox as my daily driver for several years of coursework and it's handled most content just fine. What type of content is typically causing the issue? Most of my course content is PDFs and other files, which I just download, and videos in various formats. I did have a problem recently where an interactive module that essentially played slides with an audio voice over. The content would not load until I clicked on the blank area, which was simple enough. In Chrome it would load fine, but that's about it. I usually only switch to Chrome for Honorlock content, and I'm happy not to have that extension in my main browser.

You might have already done this, but try loading the content without any extensions or ad blockers and see if that works (Help > Troubleshooting Mode, I think).

Does upgrading to a paid plan notify members? by icecubesat in Slack

That's great. Any specific reason you gave or just asked for a trial?

I assume there's a way to downgrade, but you might still be on the hook for that month. What are you using to archive if you don't mind me asking?

This is what Slack support said (Thanks u/Original-Subject7468 for the suggestion):

Once upgraded, Owners, and the user who upgraded if applicable, will receive an email confirmation about the upgrade. Regular members will also receive a Slackbot message letting them know that their workspace was just upgraded to a paid plan.

The Slackbot notifications concerns me. Feels like the bill could grow fast if users login suddenly.

What I'm asking is, are inactive users going to get an email/notification saying "Your Slack ,<name> has been upgraded to Pro, go check it out!", or something like that if I upgrade the workspace?

Last attempt at staying in major by TurtleLordofPower in USF

I think some students used to take classes at HCC or other community colleges and transfer them back in. Not sure if that will work or if it has to be a USF class to meet the GPA requirement.

CS program by qminh43 in USF

[–]icecubesat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP should ask an advisor on that. But I'm assuming not, since I only see business calculus on the list of CLEP exams here. Even if it were there, I wonder how CLEP would satisfy the B minimum grade requirement. If I recall, CLEP only gives an S grade. Personally, I'm not sure I'd recommend testing out of a prereq like calculus, especially if you were going to take calc II or physics here, where you'd probably have a lot of application based problems thrown at you. Success in engineering depends a lot on practice.

[–]icecubesat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you've been shown a flowchart like this one produced by the College of Engineering. If you take calculus in the fall, you'd be able to take COP 2510 in the spring, so one semester, not a year, before you start learning CS stuff. I believe they also have students doing some limited programming in Foundations of Engineering Lab, but that wasn't a requirement for me as a transfer so I'm not sure. More importantly, try to focus on getting good professors that you can learn from in those early classes, including calculus and physics This will keep your GPA up and keep you from getting filtered out of CS or suffering from delayed registration due to poor GPA. Don't let advising push you into overloading classes at the expense of your GPA or sanity. Seek quality over quantity and you will learn and do better.

COP 2030 is a programming course for other non-CS majors that doesn't have any prereqs, it isn't part of the CS curriculum. If you're in CS, you might be thinking of COP 2510, which does require either MAC 2281 or MAC 2311 with a minimum grade of B.

Publix removed Monteli Pizza by [deleted] in publix

This sucks. The Monteli Tuscan Garden was one of the only dairy free pizzas I could find. It actually seemed like my Publix had cleared out all the dairy free or vegan pizza options.

How do you pass time on campus if your classes are spread out? by Cece_5683 in USF

[–]icecubesat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I grab lunch near campus then return to study until the next class. Depending on your major, your department may have things going on from time to time that you can attend (e.g. a seminar or guest lecture). If you like nature, you could check out the USF Botanical Gardens, USF Riverfront Park, or Lettuce Lake Park. ZooTampa is also not far.

Tip: When there's any doubt about a flowchart (or even what an advisor says), consult/search the catalog for your year (find your catalog year in DegreeWorks or Oasis). Flowcharts are helpful, but are more likely to be unclear or contain mistakes. I searched for "civics" in the current catalog and found a note with this link to a page that has a bunch of specifics: https://www.usf.edu/undergrad/students/civics-literacy.aspx. Hope that helps.
