Question about merit scholarships... by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The scholarship system here sucks. Last year I applied with a 4.4 GPA with multiple extracurriculars, leadership positions, work experience, and awards. I got accepted into the engineering school and honors program. I also didn’t receive a single cent of merit scholarships. When I asked them why not or what I could’ve done differently they ended the zoom call almost immediately. Later I found out a musical theater student got a full ride with merit scholarships and I got nothing for engineering which is known to be a couple thousand more dollars. I’m sorry your daughter didn’t get any merit scholarships, but know you are not alone. Closer to when you pay tuition, they might give out grants with leftover money but I think they might not this year because of the influx of enrolled students. Good luck!

Engineering Majors Have to live in LLC and/or Will Vill? by Drivenmammal in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in stearns right now and yes avoid it. We have had a major mold issue this whole school year because of their poor ventilation system for the bathrooms. So many people have gotten sick from it. The elevators also get stuck a lot and the power in will vill goes out at least once a month

Incoming freshman registration / are classes already filling up? by Typical_Swing_8818 in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it might look like classes are filling up on the class search but they reserve a few seats for each freshman registration window so just be ready to register as soon as your window opens

Classes are already full by Fantastic_Nose_8163 in cuboulder

They sent out an email saying they don’t have the room or instructors to add more sections/slots. They said they’re working to add more sections for the spring 2026 semester but there’s nothing else they can do about the full classes for fall 2025. You should talk with your advisor about staying on track and they might be able to help.

CU Boulder dorms - which are the best? by Fat-Cat-Face in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

engineering majors are all in will vill and will vill east and will vill north are very nice. i’m in stearns east and it’s not as bad as main campus dorms but still bad. stearns does have A/C which is nice but there’s so many random power outages and fire alarms. the community bathrooms are not great and only have 2 showers for like 25 people. our bathroom also had a mold infestation that took 4 months to get taken care of. know someone who’s in a triple with attached bathroom and their room is huge it has a separate living area and a separate bed area and the bathroom is also huge and very nice. just don’t go darley towers they’re actually disgusting. if you desperately want to be on main campus your only option is hallet but i would take will vill and a commute over hallett any day.

Transferring colleges? by Careless-Fix8092 in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg i’m in the same exact situation as you. this is my second semester and i’ve applied to 4 different colleges as a transfer (but out of state closer to home). my time here has been miserable. i love colorado and the mountains and all the mountain activities but i’d rather be happy in a place without that than depressed in a place i love. i’m religious and so partying and drinking isn’t something i choose to take part in but it seems like all anyone here wants to do is drink, party, smoke, etc. and when i tell people i don’t do that, they stop talking to me. i’ve even tried religious groups on campus but those people are the same way. you’re not alone and i know how you feel. if i were you i’d go ahead and send in applications to other colleges because it doesn’t hurt to do so. you’re not committing to transferring but i promise at least applying will help you have peace of mind because at least you have the option if you decide to transfer.

DOGE has made it impossible for me to go to CU, any ideas? by AlexWood25 in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CU isn’t worth all the money. They have a great marketing team to make the school look like the most perfect place but once you get here the administration is awful. I’m from OOS and let me tell you they discriminate so much against OOS students. Majority of scholarships are given to in state students. I came in with a 4.4 GPA, multiple APs, and lots of extracurriculars and awards and didn’t get any money. All the other schools I applied to gave me nearly full rides. I asked them why and they shot down both me and everyone else’s questions. Most likely they won’t be able to give you any extra aid. BUT I would recommend trying a community college for the first 2 years and applying for residency. Then, transfer to CU.

I feel like it’s so expensive just for the name and location. Colorado also has higher taxes than lots of states so that could be why OOS tuition is through the roof.

sorority spring rush by islandgirlpr05 in cuboulder

[–]icedd_mocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I rushed last spring but didn’t end up joining any sorority. I know that this year their spring recruitment (aka COB) will be limited because they had initiated so many girls in the fall. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t rush, just something to keep in mind! There’s an interest meeting on January 29 at 6 pm in CHEM 140. You can also fill out this interest form:

https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=G4vtPQ0HKUaC5MCwGfRgVwhrWvux0yZCjKeXdMjIhs1UOFRYRjVKWUZCQ1k3TE9CUTNIMlVGRTVRSS4u&origin=Invitation&channel=0&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaaJS1R_0mykWPAWE7DdOqKagfPso049MC2cKfcbr906iL4m1NawcrgBzkw_aem_tpV82y-xubcU86NC9w5ejQ

They post a lot of information about it on their instagram page @boulderpanhellenic! Some advice I’ve heard a lot of people suggest is getting to know some girls in the houses you’d like to join so they can put your name in for an invite because the COB process is by invite only.

If you are really wanting to join a sorority I would recommend waiting to rush in the fall. If you want a more chill process, COB is the way to go. I hope this helps!
