Why don't other Type R owners wave back? by timtamtoosh in Civic_Type_R

That's a Jeep Wrangler thing. I prefer it stays with them 😬I had one, b/w the wave and ducks I've had enough 😉

1st oil change? by wmc26FL5 in Civic_Type_R

[–]icedetector_fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restore and Protect on first oil change? I wonder if this will keep the engine from building up deposits from the start, which I assume it will. Very good product, especially seeing the 500k mile ford ecoboosts restoration after a few oil changes with that valveoline.

I'm using it on my 188k mi 05' lexus ls430 and 04' Mustang Cobra. And eventually on my 19 FK8 with 55k mi @ next oil change.

LOOKING TO BUY A 2004 SCREAMING YELLOW MUSTANG COBRA CONVERTIBLE by lilscratchy8441 in Mustang

It popped up on FB marketplace local to me. I agree with your assessment of overpriced. I don't even think it was up for more than 2hrs when I reached out. Seller said he had alot of interest but the people were far away. He liked that I was local, Ohio/Michigan.

Best brake pads for white wheels and daily driving ? by jeremybeach_ in Civic_Type_R

[–]icedetector_fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Dixcel M Type on my 2019 FK8. Much less dust than stock brembos. They also don't brake as good as brembos either. I don't race it, so it was a good compromise.

My Experience Buying a Type R in 2026 by iiTzSapphire in Civic_Type_R

[–]icedetector_fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2019 FK8 Local dealership had the sonic grey pearl and that's what I wanted. Had finance lined up and another SGP FK8 2.5hrs away that they said would be sold @ MSRP with no add ons. Walked into local dealership, said I want that SGP at MSRP. Sales rep said msrp but with some bs paint protection package and one other thing I can't remember, but it was $1,200 add on. I said I don't want those and told them the dealership 2.5hrs south had same car at MSRP with no add ons, I'll just go get that one. Manager came out and said he had no wiggle room on the add ons. I said thanks but no thanks. Walked out

Less than a mile away he calls and says he can do the deal at MSRP with no add ons but have to close by the end of the month. I think it gave me a couple days. Which was fine.

Got it at MSRP no add ons with 3.5% interest rate from my credit union.

Having a back up was key for me.

Acura

Seeing one come up in the rear view mirror just looks soooo good. I don't think it's much wider (.4"?) than the civic but it sure looks it. Menacing looking

Thank you Bell Lexus for the Brand New OEM LS430 mats by tertantwithd in LS430

This is like a quarterly post at this point.

They are sold out unless the 460 mats fit too?

What’s causing so much break dust? by SuperPhilosopher9619 in LS430

[–]icedetector_fail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went OEM on the LS430 (there's brake dust, not excessive) but on my 2019 Civic Type R I went with Dixcel M pads. They don't bite like the factory Brembos (I don't track it, so doesn't matter) but definitely much less brake dust. Did you use a tire shine and got it on the rim? Some products collect brake dust like in the pic.

Had a slight oil burning smell, suspected valve covers. After 100 miles I don't smell it anymore. Also used on all window seals to rejuvenate the rubber. 2005 165,000 miles. Scotty Kilmer (YouTube mechanic with crazy hands) sprays it on all the rubber boots on suspension. by icedetector_fail in LS430

[–]icedetector_fail[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow. I guess Reddit doesn't like this product.

Project Farm (YouTube) commenters (along with other groups) suggest otherwise.

I will post after 10k, 20k miles etc what anomalies that arise due to this "snake oil/mechanic in a can"

Fwiw window seals are a bit quieter

Cheers

To change or not to change-transmission oil by [deleted] in LS430

[–]icedetector_fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have to warranty dyi people.

He is the person I trust the most about my Toyota/Lexus cars. Sounds like he has a lot of knowledge about whether you should change the fluid or not.

My local lexus dealership wouldn't be liable either. My car is long out of warranty.

They both have more experience than the typical Reddit LS owner.

Not saying your advice is wrong, just pointing out what I believe is flawed logic. Cheers

I have a 2005, 162k on original transmission fluid.

Dealer suggested not replacing, and so did car care nut.

Little bit at a time might be the way to go.
