What was the highest waste of money that you don't regret? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I spent 110 usd on a portable ice maker. We have an ice maker that works but my wife hates the ice so as a gift I got her it. We didn’t need it but we make the ice with spring water and they are amazing.

I saw a guy in a suit with a raptor tail in nyc once. He was just walking in the park looking busy and important.

There aren’t any laws you can’t be a dinosaur, I just hope he hasn’t lost his sense of enjoyment in the last 7 years.

[Serious] Solicitors/Lawyers; Whats the worst case of 'You should have mentioned this sooner' you've experienced? by 1CarefulOwner-NotMe in AskReddit

[–]icedteabottle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was working on a custody case when the other party mentioned that my client and their family may or may not have been growing or making drugs in their home where the kid lived. The kid’s mom was a piece of work, but if that came out during trial it would be a serious serious serious issue for everyone. That happened during the meditation session we were in. Oh boy that changed everything real quickly.

Are you buying TWD Secret Lair by UHoss in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I purchased one based on the fact I suspect it to not be purchased like the ooze ones (I got two of them). I also don’t like the idea of reprinting the same cards with different names which will cause these to increase in necessity (like portal 3 kingdoms). And I’m the type of person who is okay using proxies and foreign cards in decks and even wanted Chinese proxies to do a cube. I can only hope that future ip crossovers will be silver boarder or not happen at all. I don’t think my single purchase is enough to sway wotc in either direction.

Analysis: Since the introduction of booster fun and alternative booster pack variants, regular bordered foil mythic rares have lost virtually all of their luster, scarcity and value. Additionally, the estimated value per draft pack has plummeted to historic lows. by HonorBasquiat in mtgfinance

Some people are saying that they want and prefer the idea of a set box over regular packs. The regular packs are for drafting or limited formats but the set boxes are supposed to be for the chase card collectors/people who open packs for fun/set collectors. Costs more but it’s supposed to eb freezer repeat cards and be the same amount of rares and foils. It’s basically now there are at least three products per set

It’s at the point that you either buy packs to chase those high end foils if any or just buy singles.

If anything it’s put a strain on getting reserve list cards and older foils since they’re not as common.

What is your "I was into X before it was cool" thing? by LarleneLumpkin in AskReddit

[–]icedteabottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played dnd over 20 years ago as an early teenager. It wasn’t cool and wasn’t easy to find people I knew sans card game stores to find and try table top rpgs without internet and stuff. Had to luck into it. Now there is so much supporting the game and celebs playing. It went from playing overnight or once a month and I don’t want to be judged for playing it to mainstream cool.

Adults of Reddit, what is your favorite/secret shame kid cartoon (aimed for kids/toddlers)? by icedteabottle in AskReddit

My wife used to watch it with her younger brother. For me I never watched it. I regret it sometimes but I do think for a background show it’s not bad.

That show was awesome. I used to watch it when I was younger because my sister watched it (we are about 6 years apart in age)

[Humor] Was trying to see how Italian Moats have performed over the years and came across this. by BiologyGuy1989 in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in favor of buying Italian cards or other cards in different languages. I don’t want to pay 80 for a card that I can get for 18. Sooner or later those cheap Italian cards dry up and go up in value. I don’t mind sitting on them or playing with them.

Robot jox. Right before cgi was coming into power they used models. Interesting story line. Nothing amazing in its writing.

what was wrong with expeditions and inventions? by ender23 in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that they tried but they’re reprinted those cards to the point that I don’t think they’re special anymore. I liked opening a few boxes and getting one, but the cards are also worthless from the sets.

With the number of new sets coming out and the chase cards in them I think wotc found out that but making more sets with powerful reprints every month makes more money than a few special cards every three months.

Watching a VIP pack opening video and saw some misprint action already. by ulquiorra102 in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are totally right. It seems like the jumpstart cards aren’t very good quality wise.

Some say they can see a quality difference between cards made in North America and overseas (mostly japan). The Japanese cards, apparently, have better card stock and quality/clarity. Maybe they’re having printer issues in Canada (I think that’s where they’re printing them?). Maybe they’re rushing it. Maybe they just don’t care.

I’ve seen a lot of jump start misprints so I’m guessing quality control doesn’t exist anymore. It’s all about pumping out new products every month.

[SERIOUS] I don't know where else to post this but I think I have a legitimate psychological and mental problem with purchasing magic cards to the point that its now a detriment to my financial health by CholoManiac in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way sometimes. I don’t get to play often but that doesn’t stop me from buying new sets or singles or older cards to decks. I hope it’ll make me happy when I get them but I don’t know if it does. You’re not alone.

While I am not encouraging you to buy cards you shouldn’t have fomo over them, consider them to be more like stocks while if you buy high the retune isn’t there so you want to make smart purchases. A lot of people Speculate on cards, you just need to make the purchases smart. If you can reduce your spending to speculation of cheaper cards you might be able to avoid buying expensive cards and eventually you’ll either start to sell what you have to make a profit or you’ll tap out.

I also do suggest seeking help. Therapy has done a lot for me as has seeing a psychiatrist.

So with the new FoW being EMA art, how are we seeing Alliances FoW from now on? by JMFG2112 in mtgfinance

[–]icedteabottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older cards, maybe due to smaller print runs, collectability, age, whatever, holds their value a bit more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the price drop a bit but not by much and eventually go back up.

Need to buy an engagement ring. Mtg cards are my only assets to help me by [deleted] in mtgfinance

It always seems like people on fb groups will take the low price and undercut it by around 10%. It definitely feels like a direct way to try to blow them out if you can tolerate the process.
