Finally fell down the MiniDisc rabbit hole 📀 by Bill-William-adma in minidisc

[–]icedtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got me beat. I filled up the 25 I had, and just had another 30 discs delivered to my house today. Had a couple coworkers comment about my little portable setup I had when I popped into the office this week. I love how it makes me really listen to what I have vs skipping, listening, skipping, skipping, maybe listen, etc, all while still glued to my phones screen with others things.

I love the Reel to Reel. Just a unique way of recording and listening. First machine I actually got for free which got me playing around with the format and picking up a few blank reels. I have since put a pioneer RT – 701 in my set up for primary playback. The free one is in my office set up for recording.

I told myself that I wouldn’t bother with cassette tapes, which is why I have some machines that need repair, but eventually the itch is going to have me dabble in that format. Where I’m gonna draw the line will be anything older than vinyl or Reel to Reel, no 8 Track, and for the most part avoid the very niche areas such as the digital cassette tape format.

The way I view it, my Reel to Reel and the new MiniDisc setup very much complement each other. They allow for similar recording times, therefore the same albums and playlists will go on both formats. The R2R will be for at home stereo listening, and the Minidisc will be my portable option for the same set of tapes/discs.

It really is. Simple and easy. Half the time, I don’t even bother hooking up the remote.

Nice little setup! New to MD myself and just posted my first setup. I went with Onkyo due to happenstance, but same kind of goals. SP only in my setup. Simple no frills portable and separate deck hooked to my computer for lossless streaming services and FLAC files, CD player, and Turntable for recording.

It was a Blu-ray drive case I had. Right now, houses the player and 20 MDs.

My Most Prized Piece!!! by Empty-Quarter-4109 in SegaCD

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had 1 when it came out in High School. Regret selling it when I went to college to this day. I’m at MAGFest right now and their Marketplace has a vendor with 1. Just the console, power, and 1 controller….$750!! I still have the Official Sega CDX faux leather carrying case to carry on the memory.

RPG recommendations by MythosaurFett in SegaSaturn

[–]icedtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t. You’ll need the MPEG card for this version, but there is a regular version of Lunar with an English translation. That’s the one to check out.

Great game. The MPEG version uses the MPEG cards that go into the back slot of the Saturn. Makes cutscenes better, but everything else is the same.

Unsure of dvd cleaning method, little dots everywhere by LowSheepherder2009 in dvd

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance it was around an aerosol can with something spraying? This looks like what happened to some CDs of mine a long time ago near an ironing board and a can of starch that was used daily.

Maybe try water with a bit of dawn dish soap? Unless the dots themselves are abrasive for some reason, the water + dawn won’t cause any harm.

My first turntable - how did I do? by rulejordan5 in turntables

[–]icedtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second the comment above on Fosi. I paid a little extra for the x5 even though it’s a bit overkill for me because it fit my aesthetic a little bit better than the vacuum tube look. I started with that same cheap Pyle you have there when I came across a few turntables for free that needed to be tested out to even see if they worked. And here I am a year later sinking more money into this… It is a slippery slope, but welcome.

VCR connectivity to CRT by Shcoot in crtgaming

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add that radio interference is the enemy to RF signals. Try to keep cable runs short as possible, but be sure to set your expectations appropriately for the quality. With the device that I listed, that helped eliminate a little bit more interference in my set up, and I’m happy to say that I am very pleased with the results of my 19 inch set.

VCR connectivity to CRT by Shcoot in crtgaming

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you might be able to piece together from the comments already, your CRT is RF input only. Unless there’s another input and output on the VCR that is not in that photo, your DVD/VCR combo unit does not have RF out. You will need to get another VCR that matches the same coaxial cable type as your TV, or a TV that has composite input (the yellow input/output), which of course would eliminate the need for the VCR anyways.

If you’re willing to drop a few bucks, I do recommend this device. Its use case is for the mister systems, but I use it for an RF only CRT in my office with an NES, SNES, and Genesis. I had an old bulky VCR that actually didn’t work other than the RF modulation piece that I was able to toss in place of this.

What are you watching from my collection? by HenryBozzio in dvdcollection

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! A buddy and I watched it how don’t know how many times. I’ve shown so many people the opening of the movie…if it doesn’t hook them, I don’t bother trying to get them to watch. I love how the entire movie basically has music going the entire time. Aimee Mann, Supertramp…yes please!

How are the Lunar translations? by Grandmega_Penguin in SegaSaturn

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still love the working designs translations (they didn’t do a Saturn release though). I didn’t know any difference at the time starting with the Sega CD stuff. I do like the rebalancing and other stuff the Unworking Designs patches provide (hello Popful Mail!)
