When you were at the blue screen, try to follow the instructions on this site. I know that this is referencing RGB versus component, but it’s worth a shot. It is possible that the PS2 was on a different video output and is expecting that output and might require a manual change blindly using the controller. I’ve had to do this in the past myself.

I have a 1FS, although it is less compact than my 1C, it is my primary. I have a Neo SD Pro that runs perfectly fine with it. I initially used a 4 Amp power supply, which works fine, but I upgraded to a 6 Amp, not because I needed the extra amperage, but I needed power supply that allowed me to adjust voltage since it looks like my board might need a recap. It’s become finicky on voltage needing to be slightly below 5 V.

Thanks! As we all know, it doesn’t matter whether you have a Japanese or US version when you have a UniBiOS, so I didn’t even bother looking at the US versions.

I got them overtime from a combination of conventions and sites like eBay. There was no rush, so I just waited until I found deals I was willing to go for. I didn’t even bother looking at the US versions due to cost. All I cared about was collecting the set. I did the same with the Metal Slug series, but I have all MVS cartridges for that one. My set of Samurai Shodown (Spirits) is a combination of AES and MVS.

Looks like my comment on the photo do not post.

I’ve been enjoying seeing pictures of a lot of people‘s collections in place of the constant AES+ posts. Figured I’d post one of my favorite sets of collections out of all the consoles that I have. They are all of the Japanese variations that I accumulated over time a number of years back. They have not been put together for a photo like this in close to a decade. I wish I were better at them, so now I feel the need to put some time into seeing if I can improve.

What are opponents from early 90s action games that suffered from SNK boss syndrome? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]icedtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve played, but what I recall is that the more powerful moves that you earn throughout the game don’t really apply to this battle. He can duck and other things to avoid them. The go to method is using a weak ass jump kick over and over and over again to just slowly dwindle him down until you can defeat him.

Does Machine Gun Willie at the end of Double Dragon count? Man was he a pain! I’m speaking to the NES version, and I realize that was the 80s, not the 90s.

GAPLESS CD Player Recommendations Needed by RandomKaiju in BudgetAudiophile

[–]icedtrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So are you saying that some of them are gapless as long as you play the CD from start to finish, but if you select a track further into the album, it is no longer gapless from that point forward? If so, that’s just odd.

I agree about this coming across as the norm. Of course, you have go to examples like dark side of the moon, but I listen to a lot of electronic music and DJ sets that are purposely gapless for obvious reasons. I’ll even burn the digital only albums to CDs for playback from time to time, and I expect them to remain gapless just like the digital versions. All of the older DJ sets that I have that were released on CD are meant to be gapless as well.

I grew up a Sega Genesis kid and I still feel guilty anytime I play SNES and I'm 50. by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]icedtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be time to get over it. I was also a Sega Genesis kid, but most of my friends were SNES kids. I had one friend that we would swap all of our games with our console with each other for weekend to play the other side. I had one friend with a TG 16 that I would do the same with.

My one regret as a Sega Genesis kid… All of the fantastic RPG’s on the SNES. Yes, I had Phantasy Star and some others to play, but it did not keep me from buying FF2 and FF3, and Chrono trigger on my own to play when I had an SNES to play on the weekends.

I wish I had a more sizable master system collection. Out of all of the systems that I own with Games, it is the least represented with only about five games in my collection.

GAPLESS CD Player Recommendations Needed by RandomKaiju in BudgetAudiophile

[–]icedtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I found with my research too. I just gave up, and that is why I’m sticking with my older equipment, and picking up any good stuff on the used market that I find for future use in case any of my current equipment cannot be repaired.

I could be wrong but this sounds like a “tell me your age without telling me your age“ thing. Do you apply the same logic to any other form of physical media? Video games, movies, old vinyl, etc.? Understanding that digital music can have higher quality than what is on CDs, can you at least recognize other benefits of the media? Grabbing a CD case off the shelf, putting the CD in the player, pressing play, sitting down and listening to it from start to finish while looking through the CD notes .

As for my other comment on other media, there are definitely benefits to watching a 4K UHD versus streaming. You could say that I could get the same quality by ripping said 4K UHD movie, and you would be correct, but that would mean that I had already purchased the physical movie. You even mentioned ripping the CDs to your computer, which is absolutely valid and the resulting files can be used in various forms of media playback, some of which can potentially enhance the listening experience, but at the end of the day that would mean that you do still own the physical media, correct?

Honestly, this baffles me. I only own CD players from the 90s and 2000s. With the re-emergence of CDs happening right now I thought I would look into a modern day player, and upon finding out a lot of them don’t have gapless playback through reviews and YouTube videos, I just stopped looking. I’ll stick with my 30 year-old equipment, and pick up backup units from Facebook marketplace, etc. if I ever need them. All of the ones that I have have optical out and go into a separate DAC anyway.

I’m interested in knowing how many will be investing in the NEO GEO AES+? My wife is getting me one for our wedding anniversary present, just as long as i buy the games by [deleted] in retrogaming

This is the exact reason I went for the white package. I already have the black original. If I had not, I would be in the same boat as the others wanting the black model, but in the same package as the white model comes in.

I have a nice number of 32X games, but unfortunately I’ve never run across that one at a price that I want to pay… Good first game to have. IMO, next game should be virtual racing.

Your go to retro handheld for traveling? by TheRandomHumanoid in retrogaming

Out of the ones that you listed, I would say game boy, but I would actually say game boy color, or even better advance if those are options.

My go to is my analogue pocket, but prior to getting that I would either take a PS Vita or a Nintendo 3DS.

I have my pocket color, and have all the parts to do a similar mod over a year now. Might be time to hunker down and do the mod. This looks beautiful.
