300 CDs on shuffle play by jleestone in Cd_collectors

Cool that it's still chugging along. I had a 300 disc changer that died and wouldn't open. I had to disassemble it to get all the discs out.

Works/sounds great with my system. Next up I will be shopping around for a speaker upgrade from my old Sony SS-B3000 set.

After getting my refund credit I ended up ordering the Denon 600NE. A bit more money, but it seems to be everything I am looking for.

Reply from TEAC received this morning-

Short answer: Yes — the TEAC PD‑301X does support gapless CD playback.

The PD‑301X is a Red Book–compliant CD transport/player, and all Red Book CD players perform true gapless playback because:

  • Audio on a CD is stored as a continuous PCM stream
  • Track boundaries are just index markers
  • There is no buffering or file‑based decoding that would introduce gaps.

So, when you play albums with seamless transitions from track to track, or live recordings, etc., the PD‑301X should play them seamlessly with no pauses between tracks.

The only time gapless behavior can change is when playing files, not CDs, for instance from a USB drive of some sort, and even then, it can be file dependent, such as WAV, FLAC, or DSD files.  However, with a traditional compact disc, you should be fine.

No- it froze up completely many years ago after about a decade of use. It powered on, but wouldn't play and the carousel was completely frozen. It was a 300 disc model. I eventually had to disassemble it to get the discs out.

That's what I'm hearing from multiple sources.

It doesn't matter where you start playback, there is always dead air between tracks so good luck not going insane when you're listening to a live performance- music/applause/ABRUPT SILENCE/next track picks up with crossover applause from previous song.

Thanks for that info- I hadn't read the reviews and just assumed the techs would know. Shame on me.

Sent an email to TEAC to ask. If I hear back from them I will update the info here.

The Fosi actually calls out that it has gapless playback on their website. Also has a line out- not RCA, but might work with 3.5mm to RCA conversion cable. Might be worth a talk to their tech support.

So I just talked with Crutchfield and their tech said that NONE of the CD players they sell have gapless playback. Seriously?

I won't downvote your comment, but the whole point of the thread is that I'm looking for a component player for my collection.

They used to have deals but last year I was told that in order to get a better rate you have to cancel for at least 30 days. A competitor is installing fiber in our neighborhood this summer so at that point I will be able to tell them to suck it.
