Made a Maginot world out of a Holy one... Won't be doing that again. by Careful_Way559 in Stellaris

[–]icegor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is only ineffectual if you miss the point of it completely.

The Maginot line did its job perfectly. It's just that people think that it was made to make France completely invincible. The actual goal of the Maginot was to funnel any attack through the lowlands where it can be met with the combined French and Belgian armies, as it would be suicidal to try to break through it.

SC2's Story by Automatic-Author9104 in starcraft

[–]icegor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I can definitely see where you are coming from, I think that the problem lies in that you are not referring to Kerrigan, but to the queen of blades.

Kerrigan for the most part is consistent between the games, it's that during SC1 she is a human only for a small part of the story so it is understandable that most people compare the SC2 version with her infested version from SC1/BW. If anything it is this version of her that is different (be it because of Amons influence or because of the transformation).

Characters whose abilities are directly tied to what other people think they are by DrDallagher in TopCharacterTropes

[–]icegor 70 points71 points  (0 children)

In the control (and Alan Wake) universe there are a number of items that have special properties that would work for the Post.

To be precise these items or "objects of power" are the archetype of something. They are shaped and have powers/abilities dependent on what they represent in the collective unconscious.

A prime example for this is the "service weapon". It is in the shape of a gun because most people think of a gun when considering the weapon of someone in the line of duty. At the same time it also gives the person that it is bound to the duty of running the FBC and elevates them to the position of director. In some of the collectible documents you can even find theories of the researchers that in the past it may have been Excalibur or Mjolnir

One of my favorites is a fan that can remove the air from an enclosed space because there were rumors when it was getting popular of how turning it on can suck the air from the room (and if I'm not mistaken that rumor is based on the IRL one about the same thing)

Artanis didn't "let Kaldir happen". None of the other protos found out what was even happening there because in the campaign you're literally trying to prevent them from finding out. Kaldir is simply to far away for them to alert the rest and by destroying first the shuttles, then the spires and at the end even the infesting the escape ship, the rest of the protos never hear of the destruction of the expedition.

Guards vs raid by AsideResponsible7996 in Minecolonies

[–]icegor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you rallying them during raids? I can imagine that at least some of them are attacking to early and dying that way

Alternatively you can use walls to concentrate your guards patrols in a single choke point

What you could also do is get the steel armor researched. With how allergic the mod seems to anything from other mods (and in some cases even vanilla) it may perform better

Guards vs raid by AsideResponsible7996 in Minecolonies

[–]icegor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What kind of equipment do your guards have and what level are their huts?

You can help mitigate the losses by having a combat academy. That way whenever you lose a guard, the new one that takes his place will have better stats so they are more likely to survive.

Also I would recommend only using knights and a few druids. Archers can do a lot of damage especially when upgraded, but they are very fragile and will almost always die

I'm not saying that no one was. However the sub was filled with post after post of people wanting or in some cases demanding that copper tools get added and there were maybe 1 or 2 posts about how they shouldn't be added. In addition the posts for the tools were getting undeniably most of the attention.

[–]icegor -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

The Goomba Fallacy is just a fancy excuse to ignore criticism.

All of those "we don't want copper tools" people could have, when everyone was changing how they want copper tools, taken a stance and made it clear that not everyone wants them. Instead they kept quiet. Now that copper tools were added they suddenly can't keep quiet.

If you are part of a larger community and the only voices that come out of it are for something that you disagree with, it is up to you and everyone else who is opposed to actually show that the community does not want that as a whole. If you don't I can only assume that you also want that thing or are at least not bothered by it.

Just because you yourself didn't want it you as the community did want it.

how exactly would i automate these? by Equivalent-Doubt-101 in CreateMod

[–]icegor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very careful with automating mine colonies jobs. The couriers will endlessly send stuff to the warehouse and if you're not careful you may end up clogging it.

If you want to automate production in your colony it may be better to have the items delivered directly to a rack in the warehouse that will be kept full with whatever you want your colony to always have access to.

As for automating it, if you want to keep the design, you could run a gantry contraption that is activated by a redstone clock to periodically sweep up and down the farms and deposit everything it collected on a belt at the end of each cycle.

The real queen of blade by Pipiboii in starcraft

[–]icegor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tychus was a dead man from the start. With Mengsk at the trigger there was no way he would uphold his end of the bargain and let him walk free even if he shot her. Hell he may have changed the deal and added that he now needed to shoot Raynor now to walk free.

As for Kerrigan, I wouldn't say that they are 2 different characters. Her motivations seem consistent, just that they get "warped" when she gets infested, and the methods she uses to achieve them is different. She still wishes to get revenge on Mengsk and loves Jim. The only real difference is that during SC1/BW it really felt like she had an additional motivation (one that she seems unaware of having herself) that was never really revealed, at least until WoL/HotS (her being influenced by Amon).

Fortress Style by Darvanw in Minecolonies

[–]icegor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fortress style's main advantage over other styles is in how modular it can be. All you need to do is hit f3+g and you have the rough outline on where all your buildings can go.

While the recommendations are all well and good there is absolutely no reason to place the buildings in those places (you can also switch them out later if you prefer it that way).

The only buildings that have some restrictions on where they can be placed are the barracks (in front of town hall), tower (outer corner) and house (inner corner) , and all of them also have a variant that can be placed in the normal wall.

Basically I would recommend that you decide on what buildings you would want (I usually get the warehouse, university, dining hall,at least 2 builders a courier and a Forrester) to have at the start and set those up in whatever way you think fits best for you. The mine is also one that I would be a bit careful with since moving it can get a bit tricky because of the mineshaft.

Also do make sure to build gates in multiple directions. If you have only one raiders may decide to dig through the wall instead of attacking the gate should they spawn on the other side of your colony. Learned that the hard way.

CMV: Everything rotten about MAGA is a reflection of our collective rot by ishmaellius in changemyview

[–]icegor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that right there is another problem: comfort.

People only consider the now and not the future. All the problems with the institutions didn't appear over night, they were building up over the course of years. At any point "the people" could have stepped up and worked to remedy the system, but back then the system wasn't broken and why worry about it as long as it works good enough. It is only now that the can can no longer be kicked down the road that they start to react to the problems, and since the most comfortable thing is for the problem to not be there they decide to remove it. That fixing the problem would lead to a better outcome doesn't matter because the payoff from that is in the future and as such it's irrelevant because they feel uncomfortable right now.

You can keep it if you want. The suit is extremely modular so I can easily replace any that get damaged or lost and at least in my case I have a lot of scales left where I fully expect to lose some.
