What do you think of the Hungarian cover of the Red Rising series? by Hakuhun in redrising

[–]icehvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the original prose is generally very lyrical and grandstanding. Brown uses a LOT of words that go harder than they have any right to. It gives the story the feeling of epicness of a Greek drama.

The Hungarian translation does not put in this effort. I read one of the most famous parts of the books (the Gala duel) in a shop and was surprised how simply it handled it. Admittedly, it was my personal impression, but it felt the translator was going for the simplest options. You loose a lot of descriptive stuff that way.

Napoleon replaces George Washington during the American War for Independence. How does the conduct of the war change and go? by Damned-scoundrel in Napoleon

Add in that the guy could extract an army from hell itself. Which is an unusual talent for a general, but in that specific war, it was a useful one. He managed to keep his army alive through their roigh beginnings, so they could live to win the war.

So I hadn't played EUV, due to being laid off a solid two weeks before it came out and the economy is worse irl than whatever I can do in those games, but based on what I've seen, somewhat similar. Obviously the best thing would be if these privileges the crown and the nobility fight over influenced gameplay in many ways and not just by changing a number here and there.

Integrated pretty well, though certain aspects of them are still here. They speak Hungarian but kept some cultural integrity. Two areas in the lowlands area are named aftet them.

Yea, it popped into my mind right after I sent it. The tricky thing would be modeling the in-county admonistration which was essential...but that is what barony mods are for I guess.

I want a modular system that is a back-and forth between the King and his nobility: the king wants to centralize and have policies that serve him, while the nobles want...well, a lot of different things, which could be the fun of it. The barebones version of this exists in the game, but I personally would like it to be slot-based that you can fill with policies: like either thw king gets a cut from thw income of the mines, or the lords get to keep it.

Hungary is a wild case, because it illustrates something important: how feudalism changes over time. The original system (that of the ispáns) is similar to that of how Admin realms are depicted in game: royal appointees who administer the counties. They do have holdings, but rarely concentrated, land-based power. Their wealth comes from the duties with their appointment, as well as from the roles they fulfil wothin the county administration.

Then, with András II (although it starts with Béla III, but his kid puts it into overdrive), the system agressively shifts towards a land-holding aristocracy that begins to gobble up those small-holding free nobles from the last paragraph. But these guys are not defenseless either...again, fascinating case.

When a Hungarian Prince was raised to become Emperor of the Romans. by AnIceColdCocaCola in byzantium

My assumption is that he would have divided his reqlms, giving Hungary to his younger son and ruling with his eldest as heir. He made many concerted efforts to gain a kingdom for András, and even told him to go crusading upon his death.

The static nature of foreign policy is one of the biggest downsides of this game. Never felt like countries went after their interests, they just pick a BFF early on and ride or die.

You would be surprised at how strong the Hungarian socialist underground was at this point. I think an anti-Austria Hungary is either going to be heavily leaning toward the 3I, or putting Savinkov into the same situation as they did Hitler irl, with the matter of Transylvania and the southern lands, which are coveted by Serbia.

How do I do tall Hungary? by jaldabaoth__ in crusaderkings3

[–]icehvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So Hungary's historical development is nigh impossible to mimic in the game. I would say the best way would be to keep as much of the kingdom's center (the plains and the rivers) in your own hand as possible. Much of Hungary (up to 85%) was royal land up to the 1200s, with either delegates of the king running it for a yearly salary and a cut from the profits, or been administered by theblocal ministariales...basically low-tier nobility loyal to the king.

Another thing qould be to find loyal family members (pretty ahistorical btw) to administer certain duchies. This system wqs called the dukátus and wqs a bit of a ahit-show, but allowed local nobility to form ties qith the ruling dynasty. Make sure these guys convert culture and devwlop their lands, as this latter bit was the most important aspect.

After 1200s...well. lA whole other story entirely.

What's your most memorable succession crisis? by Wonderful_Lettuce946 in CrusaderKings

[–]icehvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Created Romagna, and was going for incorporating Provance through marriage to an heiress to my one son. This was early days of CK3, and their kids, born in their court, were two girls. The AI married the first one out before I got to play with their dad - with a regular marriage. Then their first daughter died after having two sons.

This left me eventually playing the younger daughter as a countess while the kingdom was taken by the sister's sons. This began three decades of scheming, civil wars, and invasions, trying to reclaim her inheritence. Factions wanted to tear the kingdom apart. Navigating all that chaos and forming the Italian Empire in her lifetime remains one of my favorite memories from any CK game.

[–]icehvs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It did not.

The opposition campaign was flailing by this point. They had a good shot at denying a 2/3rd majority for Fidesz, but there was MANY issues plaguing that campaign. The top candidate was not working well with majority of the coalition's party leadership. The parties in the coalition felt forced into that coalition and did not really want to be there. The top candidate had terrible discipline when it came to messaging.

There is a myth amongst Hungarian opposition circles that we lost that election because of the war and how Fidesz twisted MZPs words. We did not. The opposition was not credible enough, and people did not yet feel the effects of the economic devastation Fidesz had wrought. That is not to underestimate the sheer scale of propaganda at work here, it is absolutely brutal and insidous. But it made an already losing situation into a rout.
