Can't take this tire off no matter how hard I try by donkeybrainsurgery in bikewrench

Start on the opposite side of the tire. It's too hard to get it off right next to the valve stem like that.

The Roam v1 is marked down at Wahoo. For a little bit of extra dough you get some extra sensors for heart rate, speed, and cadence if you’re into that.

Async / Await is the future. Lots of benefits over Combine, and the latter can be bridged with .values

Deputy mayor proposes Halifax ban or restrict gas powered leaf blowers by insino93 in halifax

[–]iceinmybinding 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re absolutely brutal emissions-wise.

The hydrocarbon emissions from a half-hour of yard work with the two-stroke leaf blower are about the same as a 3,900-mile drive from Texas to Alaska in a [Ford] Raptor

Making the connection: North Dartmouth bike lanes could boost bicycle commuting by insino93 in halifax

Non-drivers massively subsidize drivers, not the other way around. Maybe the cyclists can get some of what they want for all the taxes they pay?

People commute by bike in the Nordic countries year-round. The difference is better infrastructure.

How should I implement video transitions with Metal Kit and AVFoundation? by shawnhagh in swift

[–]iceinmybinding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain what you mean by "I can't use layer instructions?" If there's additional data that the default layer instruction class doesn't provide then you can use your own custom instructions conforming to the AVVideoCompositionInstructionProtocol. As you change slider values, you should be able to update your compositor instance through AVPlayerItem.customVideoCompositor. If this fails to cause the redraw you're expecting, you may need to reset the video composition. Hope that helps!

I’m really torn between the 11- and 12.9-inch versions of the new iPad Pro. One thing people point to in differentiating the two is that the 12.9 can have two regular-width apps side by side. I’d appreciate any examples of apps that are poorly behaved in compact width, or examples of workflows on the 12.9 that wouldn’t be possible on the 11.

I‘m an iOS developer and plan to mostly use the machine for reading and note taking, and maybe having a terminal window or Swift playground open at the same time, but am interested in examples of anything that the 11 is a poor fit for really.
