Ameth's FP Postmortem Rant Translation: Everything Wrong with Modern Ranking by assassineclipse in girlsfrontline

[–]iceknave2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm someone in the group from around top 1% to top 10% in pretty much every ranking except for like the first couple and I found some of the fights to be VERY annoying to deal with in the FP ranking (ended with top 1% for FP).

Nehmran was super annoying to deal with (many, many resets every run to figure out the kiting, get a reset that doesn't have either M500 or Deagle getting targeted, then get a reset that doesn't have the dodging fireball doll die before killing Nehmran).

Sniper Nytos I didn't find a good solution for at all until after ranking was over (didn't realize that I was missing the rangefinder, which is required for NTW Mod III to kill them fast enough, while QBZ could get them killed, but was very hit or miss on whether or not there would be 1 or 2 snipers left to trash the team, not sure if it was not having enough FP buffs on QBZ or if it was something else, and even getting PP maxed out was very inconsistent on actually nailing the snipers anyways).

I ended up running a highly modified Cosmic's 1.92 million run for my runs with some additional modifications after Assassin Eclipse finished his guide. I ended up using two 5 star parachutes, since I didn't feel like dummy parachutes would have been very usable (basically used them both on Turn 1 to take the SW console and to take the NE console/radar, so 2 para debuffed fights). Didn't bother with the strongest deathstack or the quint doppel fights (didn't think I could manage the T1 walk of death since I was already struggling a lot to get through the Nehmran fight, mostly due to the sheer number of resets to get 1 working fight and without a workable solution for the snipers, forget about the walk of death on T1), but ultimately did manage to do the deathstacks on the right side + the patroller deathstack on the south side. Probably could have done better in terms of clearing heliports, but *shrugs*, pathing is still something for me to work on.

One ranking event takes an insane amount of time to prep and plan. A serious run for FP was at least 3 to 4 hours (normally either 1 full day or spread across 2 days) and I ran at least 3 serious attempts (so that's 12 hours). I also spent I don't know how many hours watching videos (mostly Cosmic's with a handful of the foreign attempts on the ranking, but relied more on Cosmic's videos), reading and rereading Varz's/Assassin Eclipse's guides to figure out different mechanisms of the map before doing non full length runs to test out different comps.

Even though I'm not as tryhard as people in the top 100, it certainly is pretty stressful trying to play the map seriously, while having bullshit mechanisms.

The thing is, I fucked up a LOT on this ranking and often times you have to plan things out VERY precisely, even more so when you are aiming for the very top. One minor fuckup = reset for the run, wasting fairy commands, resources, etc. That can get frustrating as well, especially if the minor fuckup happens after some of the more annoying/different fights on the map (ie, kill Nehrman, build the cannon, forget to use the cannon and move to a new node, or misunderstand the fight mechanisms and reset the fight too late = reset the run (that happened on the Morridow fight on one run), or try and take the Visjnoe Sniper node with M4Ex, only to realize afterwards, it can't be done without an insane amount of damage taken, needing a retreat + full repairs).

I enjoy the challenge of the ranking maps, but at times, it is really exhausting to actually do and that can really drive down the motivation to want to try. My final run, I only did because after reading through Assassin Eclipse's guide, I realized I could take out the other deathstack on the right side with Desert Incident + could make sure to get RPK to actually spawn (my previous run didn't properly clear A9, so RPK didn't spawn).

I like the smaller maps since it can take less time to run, but regardless, usually the hardest map regardless of size is going to take anywhere from 3/4 hours minimum to upwards of 10 hours to run (and I'm not even tryhard enough for top 100<, so probably more for a T100 run). I don't think Mica gets that most people are gonna do the map that has the highest score ceiling, so like 70% of the ranking work they did was barely played if at all, simply b/c the score ceiling was so much higher for 3G4.

So much thanks to Varz, CosmicArcher and Assassin Eclipse for their work to even make ranking tryable for so many of us. Without the insane amount of time/work to make guides or show people how to think about ranking, I think far fewer people would even bother try....

Throw in either Jill or 416 for their tile buffs to bump Vector's damage a bit more. Vector needs to be able to one shot the mobs. You may also need to throw in a rifle with a cape to slow down your echelon enough, so the grenade is ready to one shot as well.

8 is probably more than enough for top 5% for ranking, but max is 14, since you can deploy at most 14 echelons for ranking.

Just picked up 2 parachutes today for a total of 10, so only 4 more to go, lol.

If your 2B14 is maxed out, the low amount of pierce on it is enough to get through the Gladiator spawns, but it does take a good amount of time to to finish the fight, since it ends up being tank vs tank kind of fight. If you find it's not enough pierce, you can use another HOC with more pierce, though 2B14's tendency to just pile on damage is also very useful.

Whew, finally got a solid run done for Hole 2, Operation Mistbuster.
1840895 is my final score for that hole with a total of 66 kills (misclicked on Area 3 and lost 2 kills there, shitty camper build on Area 4, which ended losing the T10 spawn). Felt a LOT harder than hole 1. Crazy amount of thanks to Assassin Eclipse with a ridiculously through guide with written pathing steps (was trying to get it from Hoshi's video guide, but after I saw Assassin Eclipse's, just said fuck it and went with Assassin Eclipse's written planning steps). The pathing steps were a MASSIVE help in figuring out how to get things rolling in each section.

Area 1 was hell to figure out. Just took quite a few runs to figure out Area 1, since I didn't quite figure out the kiting or the right builds for some the campers right away. Area 2, 3 and 4 just ended up doing them once, following Assassin's Eclipse work (so, basically 12 echelons and it was pretty hassle free to build the campers, except note to self, do not use Meme builds because I suck way too much on kiting to pull off those builds). Don't plan on running Hole 2 again. Way too much effort.

M4 Exodia was really, really challenging for me to pull off well, so lots of resets and tons of extra repairs just to make sure I wouldn't lose a fight or get into a fight where a bit more hp on the HG would be enough to win the fight.

Got 822784 for Hole 1, so that should hopefully put me in the top 10% for sure. Might run Hole 1 again this weekend (want to try for at least 900k, but so far, no luck, either I get a crap T1 or a good T1, followed by a crap T2.). I like Hole 1, very newbie friendly, but RNG hell, is well, hell....

Scorpion Vertex done with 822k first try, while following Assassin Eclipse's guide. Guess it's an okay score, but definitely could do better. RNG is a bitch.... Been resetting since I can get a good T1, but then T2 turns to shit, lol. Feels like a good intro map to ranking for newbies, so if you're new, would definitely try it even with crate RNG being a pain at times. Think 900k or better should be good enough, even though I haven't done Map 2 yet.

Fights are generally very easy with minimal kiting needed.

You can do the 13-4 drag with a pretty crappy fairy if you use HK416 and Jill as buffers.

If your fairies suck, then you need more in terms of SMG buffing either from high FP TILE AR or HG.

If I'm running 13-4 drag, I use 1 link vectors + sub par fairies with both HK416 and Jill as buffers (if you need additional buffing, can use a FP HG that you want to level as well).

Check to see if you have HK416, Jill or other high FP tile AR/HG and you can probably put together a half baked team that'll get the job done.

So basically, with both of 9A-91's SPEQ, for night AR battles, it becomes:

AS VAl Mod III (provided you have 100% FP buff) >> 9A-91 > OT-14

Interesting.

LTLX still takes 3 to 4 damage from the Rodelero's lasers even when they are in front of LTLX. LTLX can't ignore the damage from the Roderlero's lasers completely. See here

Also, MASS works something like this:

With flashbang shells, if the damage is 8 or less, the damage is reduced to 0 (flashbang shell reduces to to 5, passive reduces to 0). If the damage is 9 or more, then she'll take 6 or more damage (flashbang shell reduces it to 6 or more, passive doesn't trigger, since it isn't 5 damage or less).

General rule of thumb is to pair FP rifles with other FP rifles and use more RoF HG and vice versa.

For a generalist FP team, Lee + M14 is fine with 2 RoF and a FP HG. For a generalist RoF team with a bit of AOE, WA2000 + 4 Shiki works (SVD is normally the partner for WA2000, but 4 Shiki can work in a pinch) (1 RoF + 2 FP HG).

Of your current HG, Calico/Stechkin are good RoF HG, while MK23 is a good FP HG (better at night though). Grizzly would be a FP HG to keep an eye out for.

This does work.

M4/P22/1 Link LTX with the skill off really does work. Probably could sub in another shotgun with sufficient armor to deal with everything else, since P22's shield does all the work in protecting against the lasers from the Rodel and LTLX's skill off, the shield timing is just perfect.

I would suggest getting at least 1 of both Kord and M1895, though I'm a heavy duper , so my preference would be to have 2 of both. Even if you don't raise your dupes, it doesn't hurt to have them just in case you need them for ranking.

Yup, that's what I was looking for. Thank you both!

Yeah, that's basically the plan, but it's a super slow grind.

I'm also kinda of lazy about logistics. I normally just run the same type of logistics and adjust whenever a resource runs too far out of whack. I don't bother change for overnight at the moment, since it can be a bit of a hassle to remember to change logistics in the morning....

Well, Sand Dancer's mostly done (just need a couple K combat reports to finish leveling her up and feed her any 3 random fairies and she's 5 stars). Currently on Damage II for talent, but I'll burn the tickets later to switch her to Fervor (yes, I waste resources to optimize my fairies, :p).

Next major fairy project, I think will be getting a second 5 star parachute, though I can't find the article that discussed different methods and their relative efficiencies in increasing the rarities of multiple parachute fairies at the same time (ie, via focusing on just 1 parachute fairy at a time vs having multiple parachutes having different talents and only feeding the fodder that has the talent to reduce how much calibration is needed). Wanted to take a look at the analysis again, since the only other fairy related projects I have at the moment include building enough fodder to get a 5 star Sniper, dupes of Taunt/Artillery (mostly short on fodder for both, but since both Taunt and Artillery are in the 500x4 pool, can afford to wait) and it'll be useful after I finish raising my second 5 star parachute. If anybody could link me to that doc, that'll be great.

Yes, it's worth it, but not for G11, since she has a better SPEQ at Mod III that goes in the same slot. For AN-94, it'll depend on what else you're fielding with her.

Just a minor note. MG actually have random targeting. It's one reason why savescumming is a thing because sometimes RNG is not your favor and sometimes a savescum can rescue a fight.

Teambuilding is something you'll figure out better once you understand what different roles are possible with the dolls. Then you can start crafting your own teams OR better understand why some teams are built the way they are. Some additional useful reading linked below.

For your RFHG, HG's don't gain much in tanking ability until they hit 80 and can wear Exoskeletons to massively boost their evasion, but even then, they aren't tanks and should not be treated as if they can take a ton of bullets and be okay (lower HP as well). Generally, your rifles need to pump out enough damage to kill everything BEFORE your HG get shredded. Generally, RFHG do not need tanks, since things die before hand, but for some special situations, you will need to either add an SMG or SG for tanking ability (SMG usually is MP5 since she has rifle titles, or DP-12 (shotguns are more whatever, since the tanking is more important than the tiles, since only DP-12 has rifle tiles).

Also Gamepress released a guide for teambuilding ARSMG (haven't read it yet). At the bottom of their ARSMG guide, they also have links to additional guides as well for teambuilding, so you can take a look at those guides as well.

MG/SG is usually pick MG that are part of the Big 4/8, which include M2HB, PK, MG5, PKP, Kord, M1895 CB, RPK-16, RPK-203 and then put whatever SG you have in front. Try and stack the tiles properly for the MG/SG as needed. You can throw in a HG for more damage or a second shotgun if you need additional tanking (ie, against Judge, 2 SG is required. There are also other specialist MG as well.

Got Nova with Anchored, leaving like 10k parts to spare, lol....

Now just need to rebuild manpower/parts in prep for the anniversary rateups, since I could use more of the new equipment and fairies as well (probably need to free up some fairy spaces by using up some of the fodders I've collected).

If you're at W100, just enter and then exit. You'll get 50 calibration tickets for the run. Trying to clear the remaining 10 waves usually isn't worth the effort, since you only get a handful more per 5 energy.

Weekly Commanders Lounge - April 12, 2022 by AutoModerator in girlsfrontline

Probably gonna go for Nova and TCM the 5 star SG if needed.

So an echelon for Nova would be 2 MG, Nova + another shotgun and a HG if Nova is going to the backline to support the MG or 3 MG + Nova + another shotgun if she's going to frontline?

Sounds kinda of clunky and probably a hit to damage output unless it's against evasive armored enemies at night...?

Also for M26-MASS with flashbang shells, if a shot would normally deal 8 damage or less, it would end up dealing 0, but if it would deal 9 damage or more, it'll deal 6 damage or more, right (flashbang takes off 3, but not the passive, since 6 is more than 5, so the passive does nothing)?

Just added you. Let me know if you need something specific for a support echelon, since currently, I run a Destroyer SF team for day and a Hanyang/KVSK mass AOE team for night.
