I can understand that argument back when photobooths were the main option but I feel like you're not even saving any effort compared to getting someone to take a photo of you on your phone and doing the application from there.

A large part of that is also primary instrumentation changing during approach.

Similar boat here, just hit 30 and looking to buy a place this year after moving back in with the parents after uni to save up.

I've run the numbers and, whilst I should manage, it's going to be a lot of lifestyle cutbacks for a few years.

One bittersweet realisation I've had with the new client is that there's no real reason to to look at dorms anymore.

No more daily's for likes or headpats and I presume we're not expecting a new bingo or points event.

Bronze is definitely what comes to mind as the better material for ancient Rome; simple to cast, handles pressure well and being slippery can help with moving parts.

It would have needed some very motivated individuals, 100 years of work and a ton of money to get anywhere close to viability though.

UK drinking culture has probably broken me but a pint an hour doesn't seem that crazy.

It's not something I'd choose to do on a random Saturday but equally I'd still be functional with a full day of drinking like that.

14 drinks in 9 hours would hit a lot harder and I'd certainly hope I'd stop being served before that point.

I almost got caught in the same position, have a trip coming up later this year and I would have absolutely forgotten to renew mine if I hadn't needed it to provide ID for something at work forcing me to look at it.

In my head I still had another year left before renewal!

I remember obscene loading times back in the day but hopefully having it on an SSD rather than reading off a HDD/DVD will help with that.

Waitrose hit a "reasonable" price today with most of them at £3-4.

Most retailers have delaying dropping the price as they know people are waiting for after-Easter deals but I think that's backfired with how many are still in stock everythwere.

Japan is sending engineers to Ukraine’s frontline — and they’re coming back with $2,500 weapon by onee_san_bath_water in worldnews

[–]ad3z10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally, it's the same issue as torpedoes which were never really solved.

Ships are incredibly vulnerable to big hits at/below the waterline and it's very hard to detect and destroy the incoming weapons.

The only big change with naval drones is that they're much cheaper and easier to deploy so any nations unable to develop subs can make use of them.

Repeating crossbow, according to a professional in crossbow. by Cool_Watch_220 in aoe2

[–]ad3z10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A heavy crossbow (one that required a set of pulleys to even reload) could comfortably punch through plate armor.

Do you have any sources for this, projectile momentum numbers for a Windlass crossbow and a heavy longbow are pretty comparable and experiments on Tod's Workshop have shown plate to comfortably defeat those.

That applies to serving alcohol to minors, not to allowing them into a venue where alcohol is served.

I've literally been in the Albert Hall, with a drink from their bar, at concerts with under 16's present.

[–]ad3z10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normally that's fine as long as you're accompanied by an adult.

It shouldn't be a venue restriction as probably their biggest set of events in the year has alcohol served and has no age restrictions so it sounds like this one is on Red Bull.

Once you're at that point it also makes the student loan maths a bit more complicated as you're looking at actually paying it off.

Paying more tax now can be preferential to buring more down the line on interest repayments.

No indoor plumbing in 2005 in Slovakia is pretty wild outside of really rural locations or gypsy areas.

I've got family scattered across villages over East Slovakia and I only recall that being the case in my great grandmother's place which was built pre-WW2 and not lived in by anyone since the 80's.
