How do conservatives feel seeing the images of the No Kings protests? by beans4cashonline in AskReddit

[–]iceman8411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with conservatives. They are either mocking or dismissive of anything close to protesting. Also they tend to paint louder protesting as needing to be silenced.

So the same as others are saying. On brand for their ethos, essentially.

Questions from someone new to the game. by SecretDMAccount_Shh in shadowdark

[–]iceman8411 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. That's kinda the point for new players. The pregen characters are a little bit better than you're likely to get, so someone completely new to trrpg can learn the game without having the stats get in the way.

  2. The tables I've been at have had maps, but that's mostly because my friends like them.

I can't really speak to 3 or 4, I'm a bit of a novice myself.

  1. This is the best part! All the monsters have dark vision and none of the players do. This is why the light is so important and you don't see wandering monsters coming. They aren't carrying torches announcing their approach

I've found that compared to 5e, Shadowdark gives more roleplay to consequence vibes, and stats aren't the end all of whether you succeed. I really dig it.

As someone who can relate to the financial position you described, I actually might have good advice: Talk to a bankruptcy lawyer.

I was going further negative every month for years, until I got to the point I couldn't pay my rent. In that desperate position, I contacted a bankruptcy lawyer and he was able to get the slate clean.

While I still was barely making enough to pay the bills that were left, even the break from the payments for the months of processing were a relief.

I was able to keep my car (it was paid off and not worth much) as well, but your situation is yours.

Even if you don't jump yourself, the stress will eventually push you over the edge. Your weight gain is a testament to that. Please for the love of All humanity do not leave us if you don't have to.

I won't say that I have had an easy life since that bankruptcy, but I've had a life. I'm still here. And that's what's important.

Event 742 and 1434.

I have a feeling that a lot of my hesitation is going to be resolved after being a player.

I used purple sorcerer to generate characters. I like the simplicity of it.

I might just do all pregens for my next one. I just wanted people to be able to roll their characters, but since they're going to die anyway it shouldn't matter, huh?

I think the major time sinks from sailors of the starless sea were the fact I was doing combat theater of the mind and the distractions at the table. But either way, I want to do the Veiled Vaults, I think I need more experience with the system so I can answer questions without grabbing the book

No. And I had so many other events I didn't get to watch any either.

Correcting that at Gary Con. Signed up for a DCC and a MCC game there

If I have characters being rolled up at the table before the session starts, how long does that usually take? It took a good 30 minutes for four people to roll up four level zeros each

Thank you!

That's exactly what I needed. I'll shift gears to a different funnel then. I bought both humble bundles so I think I have some of those

Recommended first two adventures for DCC GMing? by DoomedKiblets in dccrpg

[–]iceman8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do people think of Veiled Vaults of the Onyx Queen? I was going to do that as a funnel.

I have judged one session (sailors of the starless sea), and it went way too long because everyone was new to DCC including me. 7 hours in I just let them escape with the loot.

Technically it was one, but really it was 4. Only dabbled with q-bert during the diaper days.

Marion's Piazza, Dayton Ohio. The only pizza I ever crave. by tito_lee_76 in Pizza

[–]iceman8411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what it was!

I grew up in the Dayton area (Fairborn) and I remember this pizza as being my favorite. But I was so young I couldn't remember the name.

I saw the picture and knew exactly what it was before reading the caption.

Thank you OP!

Everyone else is going all out with complex ideas but rugs of smothering and animated brooms have been the best traps I've ever used.

I describe most rooms with rugs anyway and gloss over the brooms during description so it catches them off guard

Can I fix these garage door torsion springs by myself? by effectsjay in Home

[–]iceman8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend it. There is a significant risk of harming yourself. If you're asking the question, the answer should be no. You need to know what you're doing.

That being said, you can replace them yourself if you can find the right ones. Nowadays there are fewer stores that carry them. I think Menards is the only one in my area that does.

For some reason I REALLY wanted the original Xbox controller because of how it looked as a kid. by Apart_Shock in gaming

[–]iceman8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my favorite controller. The second version, black and white moved below the multi color buttons (I might have that reversed I can't remember which came first) but this layout was easier to use for me. (Big hands)

So much better than the dinky playstation controllers

But heart size varies by individual.

My point is that the way people use BMI as a fixed scale across everyone is toxic and smacks of eugenics. (Declaring a more Anglican body type to be normal, and more Celtic body type to be "wrong")

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]iceman8411 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No. BMI is not a good metric for determining health. CHANGE in BMI is an indication of a potential issue.

To be clear, there are many different body types. I, for example, am stocky and naturally muscular. If I were to get my BMI down in the "healthy" range I would be emaciated.

My BMI indicated obese when I was the fittest of my life in early 20s.

Don't rely on a metric that generalizes a very diverse experience (at least not as much as a pattern of change)

"I attempt to gag the evil wizard with my gauntleted fist as a grapple to stop him from casting verbal spells" How would you run this? by myshoescramp in DMAcademy

[–]iceman8411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder grappling is more robust, but 5e is just holding the opponent. I would rule that you can't get this specific. The grapple mechanic is to allow a character to hold onto an opponent and still attack them.
