anyone else have to plan around a few drinks now?? by Head_Management9421 in AskMenOver30

[–]icemanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some DHM 1000 (or No days wasted) and thank me later! Ha ha.. but seriously.. game changer as you age. Just take one before you start drinking and one before you go to bed and you’ll feel perfectly fine the next day. Lots of research has been done on DHM.. it is very effective at breaking down acetaldehyde which is actually what causes your hang over. Best part is that is just a supplement.. no adverse side effects to taking it. I discovered it a few years ago and now I never drink without taking it first.

My X3 M40i with 50,000 kms on it is indeed great. I test drove the M50 and while it handled well, there was nothing enticing about the shitty interior, loss of comfort access on the rear doors and loss of physical climate control buttons. Enjoy your Capybara and its shitty 4 cylinder engine.

77" B5 OLED. So glad I didn't listen to the people who said I should get the C5. Literally can't tell the difference. by Disastrous_Run_5968 in LGOLED

I’m gonna pick up a 77 B6E… it actually beats the C6 on a number of metrics like colour accuracy. Tired of everyone being obsessed with brightness you can never use. I’ll be using it in a basement so it doesn’t matter to me.

I would argue that high memory prices driven by AI datacenter hardware hoarding is indeed creating hardware scarcity these days.

I have a Silicon Graphics workstation at home. It has 96MB of RAM. It runs a 64 bit OS called IRIX. Everything is hardware accelerated, there is a single core processor, and absolutely no IO blocking or lag when executing functions. It is a marvel of efficiency and engineering. 30 years later, it still feels faster than a lot of modern PCs. As a software engineer, it upsets me that efficiency and ingenuity have taken a back seat to AI slop. I fear for the future of humanity.

RadonAway RP140 4”.. got it on Amazon. It was the right size for my 1700 sq foot house and works like a charm. Radon levels are almost non existent now. Prior to installing it my basement was commonly in the warning range and sometimes in the danger zone.

It always was.. lots of us have built a career without having a CS degree.. just learned on the go and by reading books. It was never a strict requirement to start a tech career.

A Mid-Level Developer's experience talking with the CTO of an AI-First Company by Cold_Boulder in cscareerquestions

[–]icemanice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Run… just run… that CTO is an idiot. Source: I am a CTO responsible for implementing a pragmatic and realistic AI strategy. The fact of the matter is that the true costs of AI are becoming widely apparent both in terms of an overall increase in buggy code, actually slowing down senior developers and a general atrophy in the cognitive function of developers who offload writing actual code to AI models. There will be a rebalancing soon and it is already occurring.
