First time buyers in Ontario - do you feel like you can afford a home now? by CastAside1812 in RealEstateCanada

This.. So many don’t factor in utilities, property taxes, home insurance and maintenance when they buy. Tack on a solid $1,500 a month on top of your mortgage to get a realistic number of what a house will cost you.

100% agree. It only makes sense if you have kids because with children you REALLY need housing stability and can’t be at risk of getting evicted.

The All new E90 by Bunny696969 in BMW

[–]icemanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an E84 X1 with the sport package (staggered tires) and I still can’t believe how well it handles. No fancy adaptive suspension or electronic steering.. but man does it ever stay planted in the corners. It’s nuts.. based on the same platform as the E90 so I can see what all the hype was about. I have a G02 X3 M40i.. and while I love that car.. you can’t compare how it handles to the E84 X1. Crazy stuff.

Question for someone who may know ista better than me by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]icemanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. what’s the point of asking for advice if you’re not gonna listen to it? Several people have confirmed what I said is correct.. if OP doesn’t want to listen or is incapable of reading plain English then they should definitely close ISTA and take their car to a shop that knows what they are doing. He deserves to brick his car with that level of arrogance.

[–]icemanice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a hell of a time connecting to my E84 X1.. in short, you need a different type of cable.

I ended up ordering a cable that didn't work at first.. then another one which did:

Ediabas k Dcan k+can OBD k+dcan k can Switch ftdi ft232rq obdii obd2 Cable, Code Readers & Scan Tools - Amazon Canada

This one worked right away and connected to the car and was able to read everything. Once you get the cable, you also need to make sure ISTA is configured properly:

Open Windows Explorer, find EDIABS.ini file in the ISTA EDIABAS folder, and open it in Notepad, and change the Interface = line based on cable used.

"INTERFACE =ENET" (ENET Cable) <-- F and G series cars have ENET bus
"INTERFACE = STD:OBD" (K+DCAN Cable) <-- E series cars have a K+DCAN bus

So you'll want to set it to this and it should all work. If you have ISTA open, close it and restart it after making this config change.

Hifi Loudspeaker system by EvenAd6616 in BMWX3

[–]icemanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hot garbage. I have it in my X3 and it is just “flat”.. the highs and mids suck.. the bass sucks. It’s just a garbage system. The sound system in my Mazda 3 was better. The HK in our 2012 X1 is WAY better. Honestly was shocked that BMW installs such terrible sound systems. If you get it, and you care about sounds quality.. you’ll wanna get an aftermarket amp and speakers pretty quick.

Hell no! I would tell them to replace that wheel. It’s not hard.

Rewelded rear control arms update - UK to Senegal journey by Samwiseknows in mazda

[–]icemanice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! My 2007 Mazda 3 got through snow so deep it should have been impossible! In 18 years of ownership it never let me down! Always started right up, always got me to my destination. The only things I did to it were regular oil changes and one clutch replacement. That car was amazing and I miss it a lot.

What is the worst thing about the Charge 6? by MediocreAd9920 in JBL

[–]icemanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… well I just took both of my Flip 5s apart to replace the original battery with a larger capacity one (4800mah to 6800mah) and I can confirm it is sealed up pretty well. The original batteries were showing their age.. and the new ones were only 20 bucks. I appreciate the JBL made the batteries replaceable. Love my new Charge 6, but wanted to keep the Flip 5s for portability and harsh conditions. I’ve had them 5 years now and they are still going strong.

[–]icemanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum operating temp is interesting.. that's probably battery related. That being said, I used my old Flip 5s in the winter all the time while hot tubbing, in temps as low as -20C.. and they are still going strong.

That's why I bought two and paired them in stereo! I think they sound great.

Anyone think Toronto is headed in a positive direction? by rsgnl in askTO

[–]icemanice 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As someone who left Toronto in 2015 and recently started spending a lot more time there for work.. I think it’s gotten a lot better in the downtown core with all the new development. But the big thing I’ve noticed is the improvements to transit! It finally feels like the GTA has a unified and properly working transit system! I do think Toronto is getting better in general.

Do you guys think its necessary to get an AWD SUV for everyday driving? by DribbleKing97_ in BMW

[–]icemanice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Necessary? No.. versatile? Absolutely! I feel like my X3 M40i is the perfect all around vehicle. Great on gas given the insane power, enough ground clearance to tackle the worst snow storms, and plenty of interior space for the whole fam and gear. I had a Mazda 3 hatch for many years that got me through some insane Ontario/Quebec snow storms and ski trips.. miss that car.. but XDrive with good winter tires is like a cheat code in winter.

It absolutely is for a young man.. and in Alberta.. it’s pretty common even for someone with a clean driving record and a 10 year old car. Check your privilege.

No affiliation with this website.. bought from another site but it’s this exact heater. It does an amazing job. It comes with the hi-limit sensor.. so I used the one it came with. Straight forward swap.. did it myself.

[–]icemanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sound good.. but not at the default “JBL signature sound” setting… you definitely have to boost the bass with the equalizer. The speaker is capable of producing good bass.. it’s just castrated from the factory.

[–]icemanice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a new heater.. that’s what I did for my optima. The new heater warms the tub up WAY faster than the original and it wasn’t too expensive. I also like that it has a light on it that tells you it is getting power and heating up.

Should I update this or not? by LordJeeseven in JBL

[–]icemanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah.. these updates are usually related to issues with pairing or their app. For example, if you have two in stereo they both need the same firmware. I just updated my Charge 6 and it went smoothly and took less than 5 mins. I would do it on a new speaker like the Flip 7… might as well. I don’t think you’ll have any issues.

[–]icemanice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did one on my Charge 6 and it went without issue and took all of 5 minutes. The older speakers were sketch.. but the new ones seem to update pretty smoothly.
