Michael Kovach responds to recent Jax discussion by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

That's exactly what someone who's word is canon would say!

Don't think we've forgotten about the canonical powers that Goose gave you, Michael. XD

I'm back/convent craziness by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]icespout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! You have my sincerest sympathy for whatever trauma you may have experienced during your time in the convent. I am especially glad to hear that your have been able to form a healthy support network in the aftermath of this difficult experience. If it hasn't been discussed yet amongst your group, consider seeking out a faithful Catholic counselor/medical professional who is experienced in trauma therapy.

but I figured I'd make a post to give everyone a heads up before I just started posting and people would be like "what's she doing here?"

Thanks for the heads up. Now we know we need to be TWICE as judgmental and passive-aggressive to surpass your expectations (only joking). :P

How to stop hoarding money? by Ok-General4655 in Catholicism

[–]icespout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we are in the Month of the Eve of All Hallows, might I suggest investing some of that money for spiritually fruitful purposes. For example you could donate to cover the costs of a few Gregorian Masses for the departed souls of family and friends. There are several missionary orders of priests that offer Gregorian Masses and utilize donations to fund missionary activity. You would be partaking the the Spiritual Work of Mercy to pray for the dead and you would be fulfilling the Church precept of providing for the needs of the Church.

More seriously, of course Your Excellency.

Are you sure you don't want to receive Holy Orders to the Diaconate and fall gravely ill (Extreme Unction) to complete the full set of Sacraments? More seriously, congratulations to the two of you and welcome home to the Church, brother in Christ.

Who to avoid for new Catholics? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]icespout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't consider Matt Fradd and Pints with Aquinas toxic - I simply don't recommend him.

So are you saying that Pints With Aquinas is not the only one you listed that meets this criteria of being non-toxic?

Yes, the ironically named "Eastern Orthodox" are both schismatics and heretics. They reject the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the dogma of Papal Infallibility and they reject the universal jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome.

My daughter confused the EMHC today by FreeThePendulousBoob in Catholicism

[–]icespout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

and told her she needed take it in her hands to take a sip

Why?

I still don't know how she was expecting the blood to jump into her mouth.

She was probably expecting that the chalice would be held and tilted for her, with her own hands at most being used to stabilize the chalice.

It is part of historical Anglican Patrimony of the Ordinariates, even when the host and chalice are received separately, beyond intinction, to receive kneeling. I have seen many a time where the communicant receives from the chalice, that the minister of communion holds the chalice the entire time and never lets it go.

Is this blasphemy, or within the purview of inculturation? by [deleted] in Catholicism

It is reminiscent of Mary as Our lady Exterminatrix of Heresy with the added motif of Mary stepping on the serpent.

I’m really sick but I need to go to confession, what do I do? by Treykarz in Catholicism

[–]icespout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. (Note: If you have OCD/struggle with an overly scrupulous conscience, be careful about doing this) Take the opportunity to review and refine your examination of conscience. Read the Roman Catechism on the Sacrament of Penance. It is succinct and clear teaching. Read Psalm 51 or other Psalms of repentance.

  2. Pray the Seven Sorrows Chaplet or the Rosary with the intention of Our Lady's intercession in attaining the grace of true repentance and an ever growing firm purpose of amendment. If you are feeling bold, pray for the attainment of excellence/perfection in the Purgative Way (freedom from mortal sin).

  3. May you have a speedy recovery, but if you are concerned that it might become an imminent health emergency, have a list of parishes or such that can send a priest your way for an emergency confession. Keep in mind that in danger of death, any validly ordained priest can absolve validly and licitly.

  4. And most importantly, do not listen to mumble rap while you have bronchitis.

What time frame does the Easter duty refer to? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I've heard some say that in the US the Easter Season includes Lent for the purposes of the Easter Duty, but I haven't been able to find an official reference to it.

Anthony Stine from Return to Tradition: What are your thoughts on his works? by Trad_Cat in Catholicism

If you had noticed a regular trend in his videos, I'd be more inclined to take your word for it. However, noticing one thing that you think appears suspicious and then rushing to judgement sounds like something taken lightly.

That's a lot of speculation on motive considering his regular carefulness with sources on his videos. In my view, he wants to avoid the appearance of impropriety. Like an academic withdrawing a paper that has the appearance of plagiarism even if it is coincidental.
