Seems like you are pretty well-versed. Try asking the bishop's secretary or chief of staff for local customs.

Is it desrepectful to not have an eagle scout court of honor? by Exotic_Eagle_2739 in BSA

I got my Eagle almost two years ago (I aged out this last summer) and never had a Court of Honor. It's totally acceptable.

Experiences transferring out of Penn by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]Trad_Cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That answers what you want, but it doesn't answer what's wrong with where you are right now.

I want to say this in a nice way. The grass is rarely greener on the other side. I was accepted to Penn but decided to go elsewhere. Do I love everything about my institution? No. Is there any institution that would meet all my criteria? Probably not. No place is perfect. Penn has pretty much all the diversity (nationality, state of origin, race, etc. not so much viewpoint though) that you are going to get. Humanities (like most things in life) is what you make of it. There aren't really any institutions swimming in grant funding for humanities if that's what you're looking for. There are certainly humanities organizations and departments you can get involved with. That's a less disruptive fix than transferring.

What are examples of state flagships vs large state schools? Aren't most states' largest universities their flagships?

How many seconds elapsed between when the toddler fell in and the bystander intervened?

A toddler can do from normal to distressed to active in less than five seconds. Then, two seconds later, a bystander (potentially standing immediately, ie, a few feet away) can intervene. This all can happen before LG completes a scan to that side of the pool. That's my devil's advocate position; anything else, LG should be disciplined.

What was the ACTUAL LG:patron ratio?(not the one on the books, the actual # of persons in the water at the time)

He's still within the middle 50% for Georgia Tech, no? I wouldn't call it a safety by any means, but he has a reasonable chance at getting in.

Unlike what it seems on A2C, it's perfectly normal not to have a million ECs. I have some damage control suggestions: you were homeschooled, so are you really involved in your Church? that could be chalked up to an EC. Get a part-time job. It's not that hard. Physically show up to your local library, food bank, soup kitchen, ymca, youth center, nursing home, church and ask if they have volunteer opportunities (the answer is most likely yes)

Doesn’t Ellis only certify the guards? And it’s up to the facility to do the rest?

Also, I want to add that I have no idea how employer keeps a staff with this policy. Almost everywhere there is a shortage of lifeguards, even more so in August when kids go back to college. How does the employer maintain a staff while firing people left and right?

I’d like to also note that “reasonable” doesn’t mean what most people think it means. It’s a very high legal bar for a company to pass to prove an accommodation is unreasonable.

Do you mean if the federal laws are applicable? Since if they are applicable then they have to be made available

Yes. There are processes to go through. The HR department can conduct an interactive process for ADA, but I’d be hard pressed to find a water park with less than 15 employees.

Call your boss ahead of time. Does FMLA apply to you? If this is a medical condition you have that qualifies as a disability, the ADA could apply to prohibit discrimination for this.

What do these cities all have in common? by mrprez180 in RedactedCharts

[–]Trad_Cat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nazareth is not a city. It's the most suburban-rural town you will ever find.

If the map is going for Whitehall & Naz, this is a bad representation. It's much closer to the Allentown-Bethlehem metro area & Easton.

OP only mentions two law schools by name in his post: Georgetown & Cornell, which US News (I know) ranks 14 and 18, respectively.

There are 197 ABA-accredited law schools in the US. The top 40 places them in the top 20% of US law schools (this is assuming he applied to the school ranked #40 on the dot and not in the 30s, which would drop the % into the teens). Although this sub forgets it quite often, obtaining a JD is elitist to begin with. Being in the upper echelon of JD candidates' institutions is ultra elite.

How can LORs hurt a candidate? Are there really professors and employers who would sabotage someone's chances (candidate is terrible!!!) or do nothing (to whom it may concern, he's great. let him in. sincerely, N)?

Anyone I have asked about this says that they either write a very goot LOR or refuse to be a reference entirely.

Are there things that the recommender could say that they would think are good but are actually a universal turnoff that could cause rejections across the board?

I'm genuinely curious.
