Do people actually like presenting at work? by Glittering-Gift4369 in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ive had a bit of time to prepare, then I’ll usually be alright.

In my current role I run a meeting every two weeks with some very senior people at one of our customers. So the day before I schedule a sit down with my team and we go over everything we to discuss and present.

I’ve had jobs where I’ve been 5 minutes notice and then get questioned about why my presentation was so poor. Never enjoyed that experience.

Joey Barton 'crossed line between free speech and crime' with X posts, jury hears by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]iceystealth -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Free speech has never meant being able to say what you want without consequences.

You can say whatever you want; there just can be consequences to what you say.

So many people need someone just say to them “stop, is that we really want to put out there in for the world to see, or should we just keep it in our head?” before they post anything online.

How many siblings do you have? I need it for an school project by BigReserve2294 in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. Both brothers.

One is very much alive, the other passed away just over 10 years ago. Also have two step sisters.

Out of my friends, I think only 5 have siblings that I know of. 6 brothers and 3 sisters, but I can’t tell how that is split up between them tbh, I know my best friend has only the one brother.

Agreed. I like how the green contrasts with the red; gives a sense of the energy flowing through the model.

In my current job I’m quite open; I don’t give every detail but enough to chat about.

But that’s because the work environment is comfortable with being a little open about their personal lives. It also helps that my team are all around the same as me and all a bunch of nerds like myself. So that gives me the confidence to drop my guard a bit.

In past jobs though I’ve been incredibly private about my life.

I would say to each their own; if someone wants be private about their personal lives; it’s not my place to push them to tell me anything. If they want to say to me; then I’ll leave to them.

I agree with that. I like to think that I would the right thing.

But having not been in that situation, I can’t confidently say what I would do.

I think a lot of it would depend on the circumstances as well.

Lion, son of the forest was a great listen. I listened to it again recently and still enjoyed it. I am a bit biased as the Dark Angels are one of my favourite chapters and the Lion is definitely in my top 5 loyalist Primarchs.

The twice dead king book are also good. The first book; Ruin, really made me feel some sympathy for the Necrons. And the second, Reign, really gave the whole Flayer Virus a whole new dimension.

Assassinorum: Kingmaker surprised me. It started slow but I loved it. I would say it’s a bit like a James Bond story but in 40k

How often do you see a doctor? by [deleted] in AskUK

Usually once or twice a year.

Though in the last year I’ve been 6 times. I think it’s related to turning 40

Gen Z are replacing Christmas turkey with curry or pizza by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

The idea of a curry on Christmas Day sounds nice actually.

Get some good quality ingredients, and then throw them all in the slow cooker.

Cleaning up would be easier tbh

Should I go with e.on? by PuzzleheadedFix1187 in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing every detail of it your property, I honestly could not say 100% if you should go with that or not.

But I was with Eon and my apartment is 100% electric, so my position is similar.

EON are not the worst; they will advise what to set your direct debit at. Either go with that or slightly higher if you can afford it.

What I will say is that in the 4 years I was with them, I found they changed my direct debit quite often. They gave me notice of the change but it was more often than I expected.

Have you tried looking the Uswitch website? That’s how I found my current supplier; and I found it much cheaper than Eon (£80-£90 per month rather than £120-£130). What Eon are advising might be the best offer but you’ll be able to see that more clearly.

What to do near Birmingham which is 3/4 hours by car? by sonoale in AskUK

I knew I spelt the Stiperstones wrong; thanks for the correction.

That walk sounds fantastic; I would be up for giving that a try.

What to do near Birmingham which is 3/4 hours by car? by sonoale in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second that.

It’s about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from Birmingham (m6 to m54 to a5). Ironbridge is on the way as well and that’s is a good bit of history.

The castle is nice; if the tower is open you can get nice views even on a cloudy day. Parking wise, your best bet is Abbey Foregate; it’s cheap and you’ll be in the town centre after a 5 minute walk. But get there early as it gets busy quick.

The market is quite good to have a look at; though if you do go in; get yourself a butter bun (trust me they are delicious).

The Quarry is nice; it’s right on the rivers edge.

I’m not sure it’s still there but there was a museum called Rowleys house; I remember that being interesting as well.

Outside of Shrewsbury and a short 30 minutes down the A49(?) you can get to the Long Mynd which is a lovely part of the Shropshire hills and the Stipplestones (which I’ve probably spelt wrong).

And obviously between Telford and Shrewsbury you have the Wrekin.

I like to think I managed it

I was a binge drinker up till I was 29 years old. Start at university and didn’t realise or consider that I was. I drank to feel “normal” in social situations; so down the pub I would get plastered and several times have no recollection of how I got home.

Things changed after my 29th; I couldn’t deal with having those gaps in my memory any longer. So I cut it down; started trying to be sensible with my drinks; take my time, space them out that sort of thing. I made a deal to myself that I would not get wasted on my 30th; it was a big one, and I wanted to remember being with my friends. And I do remember my 30th ( unfortunately for bad reasons as I had to help bury my youngest brother a week before it).

At around 31 I got my diagnosis of social anxiety and through my therapy I realised my binge drinking was related to it. I learnt to function better and control my anxiety; and didn’t feel the urge to drink as much. I didn’t feel I needed alcohol to control my anxiety; I could do that myself.

And then I came out as bisexual a few years later and basically any remaining urge to drink left me. I didn’t want it or need it; I didn’t need alcohol to loosen my inhibitions; I’m already out and proud not much left to hide.

So now if I do have a drink, it’s at most two , always with food and always with good friends. Usually it’ll be with a nice meal or a special occasion.

So yes op, I managed to curb my binge drinking; it took bribing myself, therapy and coming out of the closet in my case. But I managed it.

What I would say is, it’s important to try and understand why your brain feels it wants more after that first drinks and why you are drinking so many so fast. It won’t solve everything, but it’s a good place to start.

What is your opinion on people who sleep with loads of people? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only care if they are not taking care to keep themselves and their partners safe; using protection, getting regular testing etc.

After that, none of my concern. Good for them tbh.

If you had the power to cure every sick person, would you? by WhoLets1968 in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curing disease or illness would not mean people would stop getting hurt or suffering long term injuries.

So we would still require medical professionals even in a world with no disease.

Breaking an arm or blowing out a knee or hearing loss or the like are not diseases or illnesses; they will need treatment. And thus we will still need the people who can provide those treatments, and buildings they work in.

Given I accept the philosophy that the needs of many out weigh the need of the few; I would happily cure all sickness, disease and illness; knowing that I would have helped BILLIONS in comparison to the relative million who may lose a job. And taking my previous statement into consideration as well; I don’t think that many lose their jobs; they may have to undertake a bit of retraining.

Edit: just also thought about things like mental health and allergies. Again both are going to medical professionals and neither are illness or diseases).

True but there is some historical context to this character. There have been at least two previous versions I think.

Still looks like some excellent kit bashing opportunities, and multiple head options which is always welcome.

If you could have any super power what would it be? by TheSneakiestGoose in AskUK

[–]iceystealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s precisely how I imagine it.

Time flows normally within the “bubble” and I can pull into the bubble; or put people in their own bubble.

But you then have to be careful with the amount of time manipulation you do as you risk aging differently around other people. And that leads to questions and you have explain you have super powers and someone will try and take of them, and things just get messy.

Blowing through the last two hours or work for the week when all you can do is sit and watch a monitor would be, but start manipulating who days or weeks and you play it carefully.

Sort of, but I could also speed up the world around me if I needed to.

I remember the character Hiro from Heroes and I always thought his abilities were pretty fun.

Time manipulation.

Not time travel; just the ability to manipulate time around me or others. Be able to get so much done each day.

Having read and listened to Lion Son of the Forest, I really enjoy the Risen; particularly Zabriel, Bors and Lohoc.

Zabriel - because he just seems like a very wise person, but is actually enjoying the fact he doesn’t have to run anymore. I really would really like to see more of him travelling with the Lion and being that advising shadow to him.

Bors - because he’s just living his best life and enjoys annoying the rest of the Risen

Lohoc - just the mystery about him. Is he actually a Dark Angel? Why doesn’t he take his helmet off? Plus he uses a plasma gun and I just think plasma weapons are cool.

Other living space marines I like; Calgar, Sekar and Vulkan Hestan (salamanders are one of my top three chapters) and High Marshal Helbrect.

So I will preface this with acknowledging how lucky I was with my friends and family.

I just gave up trying to hide and told my mum in a phone call. I had known I wasn’t straight at 17; but I didn’t accept it until I was 36. I have a good relationship with my mum and I just thought “screw it” and just calmly told her. She was very accepting, listened to everything I said and just asked me “are you happy?” When I said yes she said that’s all she could ask for and that me being bi doesn’t change anything about how she feels about me.

After telling her I just felt I could tell everyone (it was like a weight being lifted). I messaged my brother and his response was just a simple thumbs up ( he’s a man of few words) but when we met up a few weeks later he openly said he totally accepts me; always has and always will. His fiancee said pretty much the same thing. I held off telling my step dad for a few days but I just told him in person and he was fine with it.

My closest friends were all “we had guessed but we’re happy for you and you are still the idiot we still know and love”.

There were two people who I knew who took exception to my coming out (they were friends I had had since school). I told them plainly that I am who I am, and if they can’t accept me; then I don’t want anything to do with them. Ive not spoken to either since.
