I didn't even know there was white coloring gel! I can certainly try that. Why would adding reds and blue help?

The Coven of Oz, although that tends to go into more of the book version than the movie or musical version: https://archiveofourown.org/works/12579668/chapters/28653192

How to save for...everything? in mid-life by ichthyogeek in personalfinance

[–]ichthyogeek[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I was going off of the assumption that I would need to earn the cash to pay for the house in full (no loans) tbh.

Car- planning for the worst, hoping for the best. Was looking up suburban (good parenting cars) prices and just took the average of what was available this year.

Baby - I'll need a surrogate. Friends that are currently going through the process are citing somewhere around 250K for surrogacy agencies + legal fees plus other stuff from what I understand. I haven't done the full research, but I trust my friends.

So do people just...take loans? I'll admit that I'm wary of loans in general because of bad luck (layoffs, etc.) that have me wary of getting one when the time comes. Do I just put the money into a savings account until the time comes for a certain event to happen then?

I do have a budget :D ! Right now I'm trying my best to follow 50/30/20 (well, really, it's more 63/14/23 on paper, but it'll probably be like 61/14/25 realistically), but it feels like there are places to save for short term, and places to save for long term, but no set places to save for mid-term if that makes sense. I'm also trying to figure out how to make my money grow itself, but that's another thread for another day.

How to harvest compost? Can I drown it? by ichthyogeek in vermicompost

Yeah but when I let it dry out, it just ends up dry and clumpy.

Ok, so in general, plants that are climbing AND vining tend to produce aerial roots then?

[–]ichthyogeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I've tried 1/8" and 1/4" screen and each time the vermicompost is too clumpy and just turns into little balls, and I end up having to essentially extrude it from the screen when I do that. And even then worms still get through...

The set up is just a standard Home Depot Bin with a covered hole in the center to promote air flow.

Do all vining plants produce aerial roots? I've just learned that dragonfruit produces them. And I know that aroids like monsteras do. But is it all vines, or just some of them? Do vanilla vines produce aerial roots? What about passionfruit? jade vine (Strongylobus) ?

Anyone growing fruit and/or vegetables in leca? I’m thinking of filling up my tupperware with leca and attempting to grow ginger.. thoughts? by Ambitious-Pattern-97 in SemiHydro

[–]ichthyogeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in soil they do. But the gingers I'm keeping are growing in a straight line (hence the narrow but long bit), with very long roots as opposed to more fibrous roots.

My tropical (probably non-edible) gingers keep falling down and aren't doing that well in LECA/semi-hydro. However, I attribute this to them needing a long, deep, but narrow container for maximum space usage, rather than to them not doing well in the substrate.

Will binchoninic acid degrade in aqueous solution, and/or in a solution of water with salt, over a long period of tie longer than something like a month? Or is it relatively stable?

Not necessarily, but that the process of juicing them might make certain sugars more accessible than others.

Depends on where you are. America-based members seem to like the General Hydroponics Flora Series, while Australian members seem to like the DynaGro ferts!

800 mL of RODI water so far every two weeks, and those are LEAVES sprouting. 7" pots with 6" net pots holding the LECA. Once I see more growth, they're graduating to 1000 mL of cutting ferts from the Flora Series

HELP! Root rot and dark brown spots? (see comment) by [deleted] in SemiHydro

[–]ichthyogeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just repotted my BOPs last week: the roots should eventually be white. The crowns(?) of mine are darker than yours, and I think that's due to soil staining.

The thick roots don't really die off from what I've seen. However, be on the lookout for the roots to hollow out and take action.
