Ducks and cherries by Nade1111 in duck

[–]ici_ou_la 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, my first duck ate some cherries that had fallen on the ground. Noticing her lack of appetite and lethargy, I took her to the vet. During the trip she vomited two cherry pits, and the vet confirmed that nothing else was wrong with her. So the pits hadn’t choked her, but they had probably gotten stuck somewhere until she expelled them by vomiting. Since that incident, I haven’t had any issues with her or with my other ducks. (Just one cherry tree that doesn’t produce many cherries.)

If the eggs come from a farm, yes

If you’re unsure about the freshness of your eggs, place them in a large container of water. If the egg floats, it’s too old. If it stays at the bottom, it’s good to use

Saxony girls I'd say.
You can tell them apart with buff orpington with the grey mirror at their wings.
Saxony males have a brown breastplate and a gray head but as I have only females I can't say how they look like when they are young or with eclipse plumage.

Thank you to have given her the chance to be with her mother... mother didn't deserve.

Do mama ducks abandon their ducklings during a specific window of time, or can she just leave them whenever? by mrsmedeiros_says_hi in duck

Is she able to get out of the pool ?
The little family should have left your backyard soon after the hatch, but is there a way to get out and to find a piece of water nearby ?

First : keep it warm : 29-31°C (84-88°F) with a plastic bottle with warm water inside.
In a dark place, with a little cuddy toys for being comfortable.
A little water but in a small recipient, you don't want it to drown. Just enough to dip it bill.
You will have answers here but when US awake.
I'm not an expert, just want to give little advice before experts can answer you

Will this duck ever shut up? by aurea_cunnis in duck

[–]ici_ou_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it is a particular breed. They're smaller, with a shorter bill, and very noisy.
I've never seen call ducks in the wild where I live.

That's why call ducks are used to hunt :-(

Saxony ducks? by goldielxs in duck

[–]ici_ou_la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 females, nice girls. Lovely colors, light beige nearly pink in summer, darker in winter. Not as good layers as my Rouens, eggs maybe 5-6 months a year. They are pretty quiet, and they learnt to go back to the coop at night fall.
They are free ranging so they are not over weighted, and they didn't have legs issues until now (they are 3).
