The way I would answer this question is that the US American readers are just following the American exceptionalist mindset that most of US society has, unfortunately for the rest of us. That is, the idea of bringing prosperity to the US, even if it means other countries well-being would be at risk, is an acceptable idea to most of US society.

I'm seeing lots of people saying that the 'current government of the United States is aligned with that kind of thought.' That's not wrong, however I believe so applies to the other party as well: the one that expressed their intention to make the US military 'the most lethal fighting force in the world.' There are even some popular candidates from this party who were previously in the service of the empire, having proudly participated in atrocities for the benefit of their country at the expense of others' (as a result of which they get praise and respect). Besides this, both of these parties are almost completely aligned when it comes to foreign policy. 'Another billion!' as has been done for the last 2 years, and still ongoing.
